So it's probably my stupid fault for not busting out a ruler and seeing that 8 inches was not the length of a standard clapboard. It's probably my stupid fault for not realizing you couldn't get even a basic clapboard for this price. Ok, I'm probably stupid.

That said, other products in this category have a key word like "Novelty" or "Decoration" or "Toy" to let you know this is not a real clapboard (although arguably you could use it if you want to look like a total moron). The fact that this product does not state anything of this nature in the description makes me feel mislead and therefore inclined to write a poor review.

If you want a souvenir or a toy, this will work fine for you. If you want a "Director's Clapboard" to use in production, do not buy this.

I have a 13-year old son with autism that likes to reenact scenes from movies, one of his favorite scenes is a gag reel after Toy Story. Problem was, no clapboard. He tried to jury rig some with cardboard but while it looked the part it simply wouldn't sound "right" to him. I got this clapboard for him as a desperate measure, and he really liked it. It is loud, the surface is easy to write on and it looks right.

On the downside, it is not very strong and will fall apart after some heavy use. For the cost it does the job, after it won't take any more duct tape I just buy him a couple more.

It's cute! Will be great for a prop! I can't wait to use it in the photo booth in the wedding I'm shooting in October. Thanks again!!

This is a toy. Do not use for actual video work. In fact, I wouldn't even give it to your kids. I clapped it four times and the bottom piece fell off, leaving two small nails exposed. It's made for orientaltrading.com. That should tell you something.

I purchased this for my 8-year-old nephew because he wants to be a director when he grows up. It's cheap and the screw that holds the clapper to the board fell out right away, but the screw was easily replaced. It's what I expected for the price and my nephew loves it.

Bought this simple stage prop for $4.40 @ 1/11. I expected a novelty type item that may not last very long, and that's pretty much what it is.

This item is made of very fine particle board. It lacks durability. If your expectations are in the right place, then this director's clapboard should provide enough reasonable value.

Why is it that whenever I purchase an item, it tends to drop in price the next day ?...

I purchased this for my daughter for Christmas, who was also getting a pocket video camera. She was thrilled! It is ideal for pretend play and for aspiring young actors. It would also make a good decoration for a movie themed room. At first I thought it was defective as you could not raise the top of the clapboard, but the loosening of a screw corrected this problem. I would recommend this product.

Bought this to go with my kids video camcorder i got them for xmas, they as well as their friends have played with this one item like you wouldnt believe! Perfect size for kids to play director with and great if you are having a party.

This item is smaller than I expected and just "okay" in quality. Not the best I've seen, but not the worst. Probably wouldn't purchase again.
