  • Warnings: Don't leave the cable connected to the phone while unattended. Although the cable should not be recognized by the phone for charging purposes, it is supplying operating power to the phone via its USB port (which is not normally the case). If you are using the cable with no battery in the phone, and if your host computer lost power or shut down, your phone would instantly lose power just like a battery pull had happened. Connect the Micro-B end to the phone first, and then connect the USB A end to the computer. The Micro-B connector is very tiny and we want to make sure it is in the phone straight and seated before you apply power to it by connecting it to the computer. Connecting the Micro-B end first protects your phone and your computer. When working on the phone with the cable connected and no battery inside, best to go ahead and put the back cover back on so you don't lay it down on something that touches some contacts in the battery compartment. If you're working on a proper (uncluttered) workbench and you're the careful type, this may not be necessary, but better safe than sorry. Don't plug this cable into any device not designed for it. If plugged into a device not expecting this map you could destroy the device, your computer, or both. Cable length: about 95cm / 3 ft It has micro USB male and USB male connector

5.0 out of 5 stars Works as described - custom fastboot cable November 9, 2012
By Xyth
Verified Purchase
Upon opening I was concerned that this was an ordinary USB cable, because unlike other "factory cables" I have seen, this didn't look externally modified in anyway. However, once plugged in, it put my Kindle HD into fastboot as it should. The only minor issue is that it is externally indistinguishable from an ordinary cable. I suggest you mark it clearly so it won't get mixed up with ordinary usb cables. Perhaps the manufacturer could put a red dot on each end to make it look a bit different? Shipping was fast, arrived from China in about 10 days.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works exactly as described January 4, 2013

Worked exactly as mentioned in the description for me.
plugged it in, booted into fastboot mode!
The cable is neat and clean with nothing that really identifies it as being different from a regular USB cable so we mark them with labels to distinguish them from other USB cables.

5.0 out of 5 stars MUST HAVE March 25, 2014
Verified Purchase
The couple of people who posted with 1 star evidently did not know what the cable was designed to do, and how to use it. If you are interested in rooting, unlocking, programming, flashing, optimizing, then this is a must have cable for you. N2A sent me some extras as well, and I always enjoy it when a company say thank you for the business.

Rescued my bricked Kindle Fire with the cable. Use one of the many rescue applications and I am back to book reading and facebooking. Not much else to say.

This cable does one thing and it does it well: it puts a device into fastboot mode. It's impossible to put some devices into fastboot mode without this kind of cable. You can erase, format, and flash images to different partitions with fastboot (including installing a custom ROM and or bootloader which is useful for making full backups of your device, restoring those backups, and breathing new life into old devices).

I used this cable to install Cyanogenmod 10.2 (Jellybean 4.3) onto my Kindle Fire HD 2012 16gb version. Dosbox Turbo and Plants vs Zombies 1 (both play and amazon versions) don't work on the kindle after flashing Cyanogenmod 10.2, if that's important to you. Dunno if Dosbox Turbo worked before flashing, though.

Disclaimer: Always back up all partitions before trying to flash new images even if you know what you're doing (search for something along the lines of 'dd backup android pull partitions'). Also, make sure you label the cable since it looks just like a regular cable.

Worked perfectly to restore my boot-locked Kindle Fire HD after a failed attempt to install a different loader. After restore, I was able to try other methods without fear of permanent damage and have a rooted Kindle Fire HD running multiple loaders.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Product April 18, 2014
By David
This product is extremely good and does what it says.
My Kindle Fire HD was bricked to the point that a red screen would appear on booting.
Brought it to a technician. After leaving it with him for three days, was told that they couldn't figure it out and it was Hardware issue.
I knew they were wrong.
Did some research online, ordered the Fastboot Cable, downloaded the iso/image files, made sure my KFHD was turned off, plugged in the Fastboot Cable. Like magic, the Fastboot Logo appeared on the Kindle screen and reinstalled the OS and was able to recover my KFHD.

Thank you Amazon for such a great product.

3.0 out of 5 stars No Repair for Me
This cable works well for some folks but did nothing for my Kindle Fire HD 8.9" that continues to boot loop. It was worth a try and would have been a 5 star if it had worked.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply said: It works.
As far as I can tell, the cable works. I was going to use it to root my Kindle Fire but the distro it's using just isn't rootable right now. No drivers needed and seems well built.
