Why pay full price for this machine?,
By A Customer
This review is from: Factory-Reconditioned Bissell 1425 Little Green Portable Deep Cleaner (Kitchen)
If you are curious to know if a reconditioned machine is worth checking into, I can tell you how my experience has been. The product came in a reasonable amount of time and in really good condition. It also came with a 90 day warantee, shorter than the year warantee that comes with a new machine, but plenty of time to see if this one will work for you or not. This little machine is pretty easy to use and does a fairly good job at getting the spots of yuck out of the carpet - it works best for small areas - (I have two small children and a dog that like to keep me busy in the clean-up department!) This little machine is really convenient to clean the stairs as it is much easier to haul around than a larger model. You can keep solution in the machine to make clean-up as quick as possible - and cleaning the machine when you are done is really easy to do. It has a pretty decent cord length so unless you are working in a large area, you don't have to keep changing from one wall plug to the next to get around the room. The only drawback I've had to deal with is that the turbo brush switch won't stay in place when you activate the brush, and I feel it is a little under powered, but it still fluffed up my carpet ok and the other hand tool takes care of the majority of the stains (yes, you do have to get on your hands and knees and do some scrubbing with it, but it works) I've used my little green machine a lot in the month that I have had it and it has saved me time and money from renting a professional machine. In the future, I will be purchasing a larger model to do my entire carpets on a regular basis and using this one to maintain the small stuff in between cleanings. Bottom line, I wouldn't pay full price for this machine, but it was definately worth the reconditioned price I paid to have it.

Bissel Little Green works fine,

I bought the reconditioned Little Green unit, and have had no problem. It is very good for small areas- I use it for small areas in a room, and for carpeted steps. It takes some work in that you have to get down and manually spray then vaccuum, but this is what makes it very small and portable. The cord length could be longer, but an extension cord is easy to get. I have two small dogs, and it really got up a lot of dirt and accidents from the year that I've had them. The carpets look much cleaner and fluffed now. It won't work miracles, but it did get out a lot of spots and dirt I thought was permanent. What it does not do well is to clean large and very dirty areas. But I would hope no one buys this to deep clean large areas! You should have professional cleaning or get a large unit for that. Overall, works well for what it is- a small area carpet cleaner where size, portability, and ease of storage are most important.

I've been amazed by products in the past, like the Eureka 4870DT that I just bought along with this unit (also see my review of that). I'm definitely amazed at that vacuum cleaner, but I'm not AMAZED at this. Don't get me wrong, this thing works--I just cleaned my car seat and floor mats with this thing and my car smells like new. I liked being able to see all the dirt and grime being sucked up. I also cleaned my kitchen chairs and it did a great job getting out old stains (probably also due to the hot water I used and the onboard heater feature). The power brush does the job, but I wish it would SUCTION while the brush is ROTATING, like the Rug Doctor you rent. Instead, you have to brush, then flip the switch to "SUCTION" to suck up the liquid. The spray feature is weak... it just squirts like a water gun; not SPRAY. That means, you're spraying quite a bit of liquid into one concentrated area. The seat or furniture will soak it up. That's one drawback with this unit--it leaves stuff pretty wet. You'll have to let things dry for a few hours after cleaning with this thing, if not overnight. Also, the plastic for the water and waster canisters feel very cheap... my unit actually had a thin hairline crack in it. The hose also feels a bit cheap and I wish it was a tad longer. Otherwise, I'm surprised how much you can clean with one canister full of solution. I only used about 1/3 of the liquid to clean 1 car seat, 2 floor mats, and 2 kitchen chairs. It's definitely worth the $50 I paid for this refurbished unit.

I first bought a reconditioned unit, and just like everyone else, had SERIOUS issues with leaking. It leaked all over the place, ruined a wood desk (before we realized how badly it leaked), and didn't suction too well. I was about to write it off completely as a piece of junk, but returned it, and got a brand new one (didn't buy it through Amazon). Boy, were we surprised to see the difference! I've bought a lot of reconditioned items and never had a problem before. The new one not only didn't leak, but was significantly better at the suction power. It still takes a little elbow grease to get tough stains out (I recommend scrubbing first with some carpet cleaner), but works well if you don't want to call in a pro to do the whole house.

FedEx delivered this to me this afternoon. Didn't look like there were any problems or anything to even suggest it was reconditioned, other than a sticker on the back of the users guide. Granted I only paid $40 for this reconditioned Little Green Machine, to me it is a $40 paperweight. The suction was so bad I could barely feel it on my hand. I couldn't get any solution to dispense (come to find out the hand unit the machine comes with doesn't even allow you to dispense solution) from the turbo brush...maybe a few drops at the very most. I got more solution dispensed by attaching the solution bucket to and from the unit. I know reconditioned units, regardless of what you buy, aren't always the best thing, but I figured I'd try it out. Of anything I have ever purchased from Amazon, this is the FIRST thing to be returned. Going to drop it off tomorrow with UPS to return it.

I'm now on my third one in less than a year. They've worked for a month or so (infrequently used for cat hairball cleanup), but then you find the puddle under it. I'm not even going to use the warranty on this one. I'm tossing it and trying the Hoover Steamvac Jr. On a positive note, the Bissell pet formula solutions really do work - its too bad this machine is a piece of trash.

Did a good job for about six months, then the spray function in the handle stopped working. Suction is still ok, but I have to apply the cleaning fluid separately, which is a pain. Not recommended.

I used to have the original Bissell Littel Green model for some time until it started to leak on me. Worked for about ~6months until I got fed up with it. It was really handy and worked real good at cleaning pet mess-ups. After it started to leak I purchased this one for ~$32.00. Worked great the first time, left it on the kitchen floor...saw a small water stain on the floor. Used it one more time, the next day...then it turned into a friggin water sprinkler and spilled everything it had on the floor slowly. I read the reviews before I bought it, thinking it were flukes...but this is why they sell so cheap. But hey, it has a 90-day warranty. That just means I'll get another leaky vacuum.
So I'm better off swapping it for a new one at Wally World. :) They should either discontinue making this POS, recall, or give customers their money back, what a waste!

Upon receiving, I went to town cleaning my sofa -- which has seen the filth of 4 children -- and couldn't be happier with the result. Downsides -- using it's own formula of cleaning solution, leaving the sofa a bit more wet than I'd expected, cleaning a bit more difficult on rounded sections. But, it's a lot less expensive than having the sofa professionally cleaned once!
