5.0 out of 5 stars Factory-Reconditioned Bosch 11224VSR-46 7/8" SDS Rotary Hammer
I was more than pleased when the unit arrived. I thought I hasd purchased a new unit. I immediately put it to work boring 10" deep x 3/4" holes in mature conceret and it perfromed flawlessly.

Be very careful to not overheat the gearbox. It's easy to do. This is not a heavy duty tool. If you overheat it the grease turns to oil and you wind up with a mess and a fairly complicated rebuild. 3.0 out of 5 stars Light duty!!, January 5, 2011

Be very careful to not overheat the gearbox. It's easy to do. This is not a heavy duty tool. If you overheat it the grease turns to oil and you wind up with a mess and a fairly complicated rebuild. So, if you are drilling a large number of holes or even a small number of large holes, feel the forward (black) part of the case occasionally to make sure it's not getting warm. Not hot, just warm as the inside is a lot warmer. If it gets to feeling warm, stop and wait a bit to let it cool. If the grease breaks down and becomes oil it will NOT revert back to grease. While the seals are quite adequate for grease, they are not for oil. It WILL leak! If you observe this limitation you will agree that this is otherwise a five star tool and you'll love the job it does.

5.0 out of 5 stars Purchase without hesitation., April 26, 2009

I purchased one of these reconditioned "bull-dogs" wich I really like; for a smaller roto-hammer it really works great! I was a little worried about buying a reconditioned product, but it didn't have a single mark on it, came in a brand new case, and was "indestinguishable" from a new product.
I really baby mine at home, it's rarely used; but we really "man handle" one at work and it continues to perform great!
I also purchased one of those "SDS chuck adapters" from CPO Bosch (for about $50) which I would recommend, so that if necessary, an operator can use a non-SDS type drill bit.
Purchase without hesitation.

I have been very pleased with this Bosch rotary hammer. As delivered, the external body was in like new condition with case. Most importantly, the drill made fast work of a number of 1/2 holes to a depth of 9 to 10 inches in concrete. I found it was best to use only moderate pressure to get the fastest drilling rate in the concrete - you can see the drill make visible progress into the hole. The drill gear box does get quite warm after 3 to 4 holes, so I let it cool down between sets.

5.0 out of 5 stars Does the job that a hammer drill couldn't, March 18, 2007
This review is from: Factory-Reconditioned Bosch 11224VSR-46 6.9 Amp 7/8-Inch SDS Rotary Hammer (Tools & Home Improvement)
My 70 year old basement walls have "river rock" aggregate, including granite rocks an inch in diameter from the Ohio River basin.

A shelving contractor told me that his good hammer drill was "no good" at drilling holes for 1/4" wall anchors into it. He borrowed one of those 22 caliber shell hammers to shoot nails directly into the wall to mount the shelves.

I just bought a reconditioned 11224VSR at the least expensive price, and a couple 1/4" bits from one of the vendors here. When I used it to drill holes for a couple of anchors, it took less than a minute to do it. As a matter of fact, I didn't have the depth gauge (it is metal, not plastic) rotated correctly, and it slipped through (so watch out for that) the guide before I realized what was happening, so I ended up with a deeper hole than I intended very quickly.

I love this tool. I don't have a 1/2" hand drill, so I bought the 3 jaw chuck so I can use 1/2" bits, too.

4.0 out of 5 stars Like new, January 28, 2012

Like other reviewers, mine came like new. I also agree with another reviewer that this is a light-ish duty drill. Certainly not for someone in construction and potentially drilling holes all day long. But for a home user like me it is more than enough. It can get pretty warm after a dozen holes or so, but thats about my max anyway. My only regret was not upgrading to the Bulldog 1" model. At the time it was around a $10 difference but the Bulldog seems to be beefed up in several areas, not just the 1/8" capacity increase. Not that this is a bad drill in any way but I suppose you always want the bigger tool!

2.0 out of 5 stars Demo Hammer, January 19, 2012

This review is from: Factory-Reconditioned Bosch 11224VSR-46 6.9 Amp 7/8-Inch SDS Rotary Hammer (Tools & Home Improvement)
Bought it reconditioned for about a 40% discount. This is good for use as hammer drill and light demo work only(tile removal pushes it to the edge) Not the right tool for hammering into slab concrete however. Tool stopped hammering on 3rd use. If yoy are a serious remodler, save for the larger ($850 ish) tool or rent one for about $50/day.

I got such a great deal on this reconditioned tool that I thought that it must show signs of wear, have strange rattles, or some weakness. But it was delivered in like-new condition and runs flawlessly. It is also a serious, powerful tool. Drilling holes in concrete is effortless, peeling ceramic tile goes faster than my helper can clear the debris, and chipping out masonry for repair and replacement is almost a pleasure. Money well spent!

Every tool manufacturer has a handful of tools that are industry leaders. If you need a lightweight long term performer and intend to drill holes around 1/2 to 3/4 in concrete then you should just buy this one. I just bought a reconditioned one and it is perfect. I have worked with these for many years and it never fails. Just remember it is really used for hammer drilling holes for wedge anchors in concrete. It is not a demo tool, you can do a little bit of chipping, but do not expect a lot from the hammer function.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great, hardworking drill, December 8, 2010

Hard working drill. I ran into 2 feet of rock while putting in a fence post. It took hours to get through (not meant to do this kind of work), but the drill kept chipping and drilling the whole time. Also drills through stucco and cement. Great drill.
