5.0 out of 5 stars the best little driver I've ever used, October 13, 2007

This review is from: Factory-Reconditioned Bosch PS20-2-RT Litheon 10.8-volt Lithium Ion Pocket Driver With 2 Batteries (Tools & Home Improvement)
So it's small. it's shaped like a pistol really, but efficient design for a hand held gizmo iconic. there is incredible torque, easy use, an incredible charge per each tiny battery. there is no reason I can see to buy those large awkward drills. The only crit is that you need to buy a chuck to use non-keyed drill bits. but otherwise if you are driving screws this is the bomb. bought the fac. recond. and it's been great so far.

Aside from maybe drilling a 1/2" hole through concrete there isn't much this little drill can't do.

I use mine everyday. From setting cabinets to screwing down decking to installing electrical fixtures. I even use it just for the LED!

Lots of power in a small package.

The only thing I could possibly ask for is a higher speed setting for drilling pilot holes. It goes quick enough as is, but tends to cause a little bit of blowout on the backside when drilling through flakeboard.

Other than that, it's one of the best tools I have ever purchased.

5.0 out of 5 stars My new best friend, October 25, 2007

Unlike NiCad powered tools, this one doesn't loose it's charge while sitting on the shelf. Self-discharge was a constant source of frustration with my NiCad based old powered screwdriver. Sometimes I use a tool like this every day, other times it might sit for a month. With a NiCad tool sitting for a month means a dead battery, but not with this jewel.

Bosch really thought this tool through. The size and balance feel perfect in my hand. The built-in white-LED light is a feature I now wouldn't want to be without. We have been doing a bit of remodeling and redecorating for which this compact screw driver is just the ticket. The only change I would ask for is some kind of on-tool storage for at least one extra bit.

Updated January 2009: Still going strong. The batteries still have excellent capacity and lifetime, unlike some of my over 1 year old cordless tool batteries! This remains one of my most often used power tools.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great driver, August 18, 2008
This review is from: Factory-Reconditioned Bosch PS20-2-RT Litheon 10.8-volt Lithium Ion Pocket Driver With 2 Batteries (Tools & Home Improvement)
I've had this for about a month.
Good design, should last a long time. I service copiers so the 10.8v is a little high for my needs & a little heavy, but the design is better then the hinging drivers. There are 3.6v pistol grip drivers, but they have built-in batteries, & I need to be able swap out a dead battery. And I like the long life of the lith-ions
I had a Hitachi 3.6v driver. It was the perfect weight & voltage, but the wires that run from the battery to the motor/switch kept breaking @ the hinge point.
I like that the light turns on with the squeeze of the trigger, and that the speed varies with how far you squeeze the trigger. The Hitachi just had a high & low speed & a separate switch for the light.

4.0 out of 5 stars Bosch PS20-2 A Fine Tool, May 27, 2008
This review is from: Factory-Reconditioned Bosch PS20-2-RT Litheon 10.8-volt Lithium Ion Pocket Driver With 2 Batteries (Tools & Home Improvement)
I have been using the PS20-2 for about a year. I bought it, from Amazon, based on the user reviews. I was not disappointed; the tool is everything it was said to be and continues to impress me with it's no-nonsense performance. My need was for a small, lightweight yet reasonably powerful electric screwdriver that was easy to hold and didn't weigh a ton--I have a carpal/nerve problem in my wrist--and would work more than two weeks after purchase. The PS20-2 fit my need perfectly and I highly recommend it, particularly to people in the electronics business who regularly need to remove/re-install a dozen or more cover screws. I would have given 5 stars but for (1) it lacks a clip for holding a second bit, and (2) it's a bit anemic when driving large screws. But, ya can't have everything.

For those who don't know, the term "driver" here means that it has an impact action that sort of hammers the bit onto the screw and keeps it in solid contact without having to press down on it. For nothing else but being able to install and remove cheapo screws without stripping them, the PS20 is a necessary tool.

Others use it for assembly as it works well with nuts and bolts as well. It is comfortable and light, so you can use it on the line all day.

The 10.8 volts and fast charger will keep it going on reasonable tasks for a very long time.

It will drill, but even the instructions say not to, that it is not made for that. It is a driver and you will want a separate actual drill for drilling.

It does not have a traditional chuck and only takes the click-in drill and screw bits, as well as many types of nut drivers.

People have concerns about reconditioned tools. I have had great luck with them, and with electronic devices as well. Most of the time they are simply excess stock, open boxes, returned gifts or by people who misuse return policies. I have never gotten a refurb product that had any signs of use at all (but that is not to be expected in every case).

I almost took off a star because the soft-start and and lack of a traditional clutch system takes getting used to. You just have to use touch and feel and after some use this will be second nature.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Little Driver, January 24, 2009

Excellent driver. I'm an on-site computer tech, and needed something small, to throw in my tool bag, and (most importantly) it had to have a good sensitive clutch. The locking speed chuck is also nice.

A coworker had purchased a new model, for twice the $, at a big-box store, and I had tried it out a couple of times and fell in love w/it.

The clutch is sensitive enough for work on a MOST (but not all) of the laptop systems, and other equipment that I work on. After two months of comparing and searching, this is the best clutch I would find.

The battery life is excellent, especially coming from a ni-cad driver. I estimate that I've gotten about four hours of non-stop use out of a battery. And the speed charger that comes with the package can get a battery back to you in a couple of hours.

I have no problem with reconditioned tools (in fact I will usually look for them first), as long as they are in good shape and come with the same as new warranty, and this meets that criteria.

This is as good as new, w/one exception (which doesn't really matter to me, but may to others). CPO brands (with a branding iron) the word "RECON" in the top of the housing. This may or may not put some folks off. I personally don't care, but I didn't notice it in the company's description, so I thought I would bring it up.

So, overall, for what I do, this is a great driver and, compared to new, a good price.

Another thing I forgot to mention. The 12V batteries for the newer model seem to be more prevalent than the 10.8V (at least from my searching). The 12V batteries work just fine it this model.

Very good driver. This is the optimal equipment for wood screws and all around light work. It came as "Factory-Reconditioned" but was in brand new condition. The price I paid ($67) proves it to be of outstanding value.

I am surprised by the torque and battery life! Great tool, very handy, powerful, fast, balanced...I like everything about it! I have the reconditioned unit and have had no problems at all with it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple repair issue when trigger begins to fail, January 6, 2011
By
This review is from: Factory-Reconditioned Bosch PS20-2-RT Litheon 10.8-volt Lithium Ion Pocket Driver With 2 Batteries (Tools & Home Improvement)
First of all, let me say that I LOVE my PS 20. It has done everything I have ever asked of it, and more. I do not use it every day - in fact I reserve it for light special projects only. This is why I was so disappointed when the trigger began to fail on me. The light would go on, but I had to play with the trigger to get the drill to come on. I thought at first, it might have been from lack of use (corrosion on the trigger contacts maybe), so I sat there and pulled the trigger over and over to wear the contacts in - no help. Finally, I decided to take it apart to have a closer look at the trigger switch. A tiny star screw bit took out the seven tiny screws. I carefully pried it open just enough to have a look at the switch - it looked dry with a slight powdery residue on it. I grabbed my can of WD40 and placed a tiny burst where the trigger plunges into the switch (at the switch)and activated the trigger several times. I snapped in the battery and it worked fine. To be sure, I added another light burst of WD40 to the switch plunger again and re-assembled the unit. I popped in the 10.8v battery and just like new, my drill driver works perfectly. The repair took less than 10 minutes and I am very happy with my PS 20 again. This repair is so simple, ANYONE can do it, so if your switch begins to fail, be brave, grab your trusty can of WD40!
