5.0 out of 5 stars Worth every penny., April 1, 2009
This review is from: Factory-Reconditioned Bosch PS40-2-RT 10.8-Volt Impact Driver (Tools & Home Improvement)
This little driver has to be some of the best money I've ever spent. I own and/or use quite a few different power tools both at home and as a commercial/industrial wireman and I can't recall ever having been so tickled with a tool as I am with this Bosch. Mine arrived looking brand new in a soft case with a charger, spare battery, manual and two driver bits.

The first thing I did was grab some 3" deck screws and start sinking them into a railroad tie. This wee little driver never broke a sweat and didn't even need pilot holes to set the screws below flush - amazing power for such a tiny package. I also quickly found out that this thing will shatter cheapie driver bits so I bought some quality Apex bits to use with it. Mine's been with me on several projects around the house tucked nicely into my shorts pocket without dragging my drawers down like my 18v drill. Battery life is great and they charge up in 30 minutes or less. The LED's are great and with judicious use of the variable speed trigger the fact that it doesn't have a clutch is virtually a non issue for me. A really great benefit of an impact driver is you don't have to honk down on it to keep the bit in the screw head. I demonstrated this to my dad and brother by driving a #2 philips 2 1/2" deck screw into a 2x4, no pilot hole, with just my index finger and thumb holding the driver. They were impressed!

I wholeheartedly recommend this to anyone looking for serious pocket-sized power and understands that impacts by design aren't as fast as regular battery drills but pound for pound pack waaaay more power. Now that I've used this driver I'd be seriously unhappy without it and would gladly pay full price if I had to. Another winner for Bosch - five stars all the way.

This review is from: Factory-Reconditioned Bosch PS40-2-RT 10.8-Volt Impact Driver (Tools & Home Improvement)
I run a furniture repair business and purchased this driver as a back-up for my 18v full size Bosch Drill/Driver. The Bosch PS40-2 RT arrived in excellent, brand-new condition, with a slip of paper that said it was a Demo. It is a great driver that is small, light-weight, and very powerful. The 3 LED lights are a great asset when working inside a furniture frame or somewhere that the light is not quite bright enough. I now reach for this driver first, for it's power, size and ability to impact the screw down to the depth that I want. I am very pleased with this purchase.

12/08/09 UPDATE: My Bosch is still going strong. I have not had any issues with this drill and it is my primary choice for woodworking.

Good little driver for someone making furniture and for general light to medium duty. Very controllable and responsive. I had hoped it would happily drive 2.5" deck screws but that's a little much to ask of it. It'll do it but it resorts to impact mode very quickly which makes it very slow. I also use the 14v Dewalt Impact Drivers and they handle the deck screws with ease. However, since they're heavier and more powerful, the Dewalts are not nearly as controllable with the smaller screw sizes (#4-#6) commonly used in furniture building. I've even used the Bosch to put hinges on jewelry boxes using #2(!) brass coated steel square drive screws and it was a pleasure to use. Again, that kind of delicate work is very easy and safe (less prone to stripping out or twisting off) with the Bosch.

Great deal from Amazon. Lowest price I could find for this great Impact Driver. Works as advertised and does a great job. Comes with a spare battery and soft case. Driver arrived in "like-new" condition - looked as if it had never been used. This is a great tool for all of those jobs when you don't want to lug around a large cordless drill. Excellent battery life. As another reviewer noted, the LEDs at the front of the driver are a neat added touch. As with most Bosch products, it pays to buy quality

Although I am not much of a factory reconditioned shopper, the new price of this drill would keep me away from purchasing the drill. So I purchased the drill "reconditioned". It arrived more like a used tool, no box-dirty. I have purchased used on ebay and the products were cleaner in appearence.

The Bosch Driver is an awesome tool. Powerful and lightweight. I personally love the added touch of having the LEDs on the front of the drill. Came with Two batteries which is a plus.

A very good tool for a very fair price.

Wow, I bought this 2 years ago and it's still going strong. Admittedly, I only use it about 2-3 times a month though but each time I use it, it has come through with flying colors. I'm so glad that I bought this driver. I have also used it as a drill for which it has "managed". Though, not as capable as a drill in that department, for the occassional, not-as-frequent-as-a-professional work, it works fine. The most tasking jobs for drilling have been installing doors and drilling the holes for them. A normal drill would take about a minute, if that, and this took me about 5 minutes. So, as you see, does the job, but not as efficiently as the driver kicks in pretty frequently when going through a high torque job like that. With my kind of usage, I've only had to charge the batteries about 5 times and each time was very fast. Having a back-up battery is almost overkill.

Lastly, I've really appreciated the light on the end. Very even and has always come through when I needed it. For some of the jobs when lighting is limited, the light is FANTASTIC. So, definitely recommend it and would purchase it again.

This review is from: Factory-Reconditioned Bosch PS40-2-RT 10.8-Volt Impact Driver (Tools & Home Improvement)
The Bosch PS40 is an absolute pleasure to use. It fits well in my hand, is not too heavy, and provides a remarkable amount of turning power for its size. I've purchased several rechargeable drivers and drills. All of them are good quality and work well. This tool is head and shoulders above the bunch.

I didn't understand the difference between impact drivers and "regular" ones until I started doing some research. It didn't take long to realize impact drivers provide a much better value. They are far more powerful, smaller, easier to handle, and work better. I was extra lucky to find this particular offer. The reconditioned tool arrived looking brand new. If it should run into any problems it is covered by the manufacturer's warranty.

If you don't know how these things work, it's kind of cool. They have two modes, kind of like a hybrid car. In normal mode they run just like any rechargeable driver/drill. You squeeze the trigger and the bit turns. The more you squeeze the faster it turns. The first difference is that this has a speed range that is much greater than "regular" driver/drills and there's not having to flip any switch to go from slow to fast. In this mode the bit turns smoothly and quietly. Things really get interesting when the tool hits a resistance point in what you are driving. It automatically switches from standard mode to impact mode. Instead of turning smoothly, something inside the driver strikes a lever several times a second. (Squeeze the trigger more and it speeds up.) With each impact the bit turns a little bit. This generates a lot of turning force and the striking action direct the force into what you are driving rather than turning the tool. The result is the bit stays in the screw (or whatever) rather than slipping out and the thing is driven home with a steady motion. About the only thing you have to deal with is the noise when the thing is in impact mode. (Think a service station where someone is removing a tire from a car.)

The charger is very quick and there is a clear indication when the battery is being charged and when it is done.

All in all, impact divers are great tools and for use around the house the is a great value.

Had used this tool on a jobsite in Wisconsin for a commercial contractor it served its purpose on that job so I had to have one for around the house. Great for cabinet workers and tight spots, should have ordered 2 at the time.

I just used this tool to put up cement backer board. When I was done, I went over the screws that I had driven with my 18V Dewalt drill. The Bosch drive was able to pull all of the screws tighter than they had been.

With the impact drive, there is no problem with the bit slipping on Phillips screws. The job went faster and with less effort than using a conventional drill as a driver. The light weight also meant less strain from holding the driver up while doing the job.

I am very happy with the quality, feel and performance of this tool
