4.0 out of 5 stars Good Product!!!
The Factory Reconditioned Cuisinart DLC-1FR 21-Ounce Mini-Prep Food Processor waa great buy for us. Easy to use, easy to clean, small enough to leave out on the counter without getting in the way. We had no problem with out unit cosmetically. It looked brand new. When we first used it for a job that took more than 30 seconds to chop/blend, we could smell a very slight...

I have owned two Cuisinart products both had to be sent in for repairs at the same time Cuisinart refused to repair either of the products. When I called the factory they said that the products showed commercial use. I told them my wife and I had bought them new and I sold insurance and my wife was a teacher and neither of use had anything to do with commercial food...

When we first used it for a job that took more than 30 seconds to chop/blend, we could smell a very slight odor as the motor got warm, but with the enclosed bowl none of that affected the taste of the food. If you are chopping something like an onion, you still have to cut it up into medium size pieces but it's great for blending up sauces or eggs for an omelet. We have larger processors for big jobs but this fits the bill when cooking for one or two people. The price was so good that we bought three so we could give a couple as gifts, and after using ours we have no reservations in it as a gift.

I've had mine for a good two years and find it most handy, but looking into the prices of extra work-bowls, lids and blades, they are extremely overpriced and for a set of above, one could buy a whole new machine! Shame on this gouging CUISINART!

5.0 out of 5 stars I Love This Little Thing, September 25, 2002
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I had never really gotten on the food processor bandwagon. I had bad experiences with older, larger food processors that either liquified things I was chopping, yet still left large chunks behind. Add in the time to get the appliance out, find place on the counter, and then clean it afterwards, and I could do a faster, better job with a sharp knife.

Then I came upon this little beauty. It's small enough that I can leave it on the counter all the time. It has fewer pieces, and can be cleaned almost as fast as a cutting board and knife.

The capacity is small, but if I'm just cooking for a couple people, it's plenty big for most chores.

It works so well that I've ventured back into my appliance closet, and pulled-out the full-sized food processor for some things I wouldn't have bothered with before. In otherwords, this little device has changed the way I cook by expanding my choices of techniques to use.

I really think this little thing is an indispensible aid in the kitchen.

This little chopper is great for small amounts of food. Double sided blade chops nuts, garlic, herbs and veggies. Give it a little help by breaking into pieces and watch it WHIRL. I made a great pesto, nut butters, salsas and salad dressings.

4.0 out of 5 stars so far great, but sharp blade., November 8, 2002

I received this as a gift and so far it works wonderfully. I chopped up small chunks of asiago cheese, whizzed it around about 5-10 times and "instant grated cheese" !
Very handy for chopping walnuts and making dips too. The only warning is that you MUST be careful of the extremely sharp blade. In order to change the setting from "course chop" to "puree", you have to flip the blade over, and it is very easy to slice your finger "even if" you're being very careful. To prevent this, try wearing oven mitts or heavy-duty leather work gloves(from any hardware/home improvement store).

If a company does not have the integrity to honor their warranty I will not do business with them and neither should you.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love using this little mini-prep food processor, September 22, 2001

Considering that I love to cook so much, I have been needing some sort of food processor for a long time to cut the time of chopping certain foods like garlic and parsely. I incidentally fell upon this item on my excite.com webpage and immediately had to have this small food processor.

Although small, the mini-prep food processor is ideal for someone like me who lives in a small apartment. I don't mind if I have to chop my garlic into smaller pieces before putting them into the processor. The results comes out great when I mince the garlic in the processor. I would have never gotten the garlic as finely chopped as the mini prep food processor did. The same can be said about chopping parsely. I love using the cuisanart mini-prep food processor.

4.0 out of 5 stars Terrific for everyday cooking, January 4, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Factory-Reconditioned Cuisinart DLC-1FR 21-Ounce Mini-Prep Food Processor, White (Kitchen)
This product saves a lot of time in ingredient chopping for daily cooking, and even some entertaining duties like dips and spreads where you don't need perfect dicing. You will have to cut your vegetables into 1 inch chunks before chopping, but it still saves time and it's very easy to clean. Chopping onion, green pepper & celery for jambalaya took 3 pulses for each vegetable. Garlic, onion & cilantro for salsa were done together in seconds. A garlic clove and other small amounts of anything will fly up to the top of the bowl away from the blade, so chop it with another part of the recipe or do several cloves at once, ditto for fresh herbs. It is not going to replace hand chopping for vegetables that need to be uniform (as in asian cooking) and perfect-looking (as for a condiment tray for company) and tomatoes become puree in 3 pulses unless you really make them small pieces before processing, so I still chop tomatoes by hand. Overall, I love mine and wouldn't be without one now.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great little machine!, January 5, 2003

I was skeptical about purchasing a "re-conditioned" appliance, but this item arrived quickly, and in mint condition! Other reader reviews proved helpful -- the blade is SHARP! Be careful when changing from "sharp" to "blunt"...Texture notes: this machine works beautifully for things like chopping herbs, blending dressings, etc. However, I discovered that vegetables are chopped too finely for things like soup, particularly if you prefer large rustic cuts of veggies in your soups (as I do!)...
All in all, a great little machine!!

I've had great luck with this little chopper. It's small, POWERFUL in the usual Cuisinart way and acts like my big Cuisinarts. Salsa, even using hard veggies such as carrots and celery, are a breeze. Herbs and spices are always successful. You can even make sugar finer.

At this price, it's feasible to buy several for specialty use. It's a safe, manageable appliance for introducing kids to cooking as well. Peanuts for peanut butter, fruits and nuts for the drier or garnish. This is a fun Cuisinart at a toy price. Buy extra for gifts.
