Great Bargain, September 6, 2003

This review is from: Factory-Reconditioned Cuisinart COF-900FR Thermal Carafe 8-Cup Coffeemaker (Kitchen)
I bought this product recently during a Friday sale, at 90% off the regular price. To be honest, I didn't need it; I don't personally drink coffee. But I wanted to have something around for guests and for 12 bucks, I gave it a shot. It was a terrific buy! What I like about it? 1) It's the fastest coffee maker I've ever seen. Heats and finishes 8 cups in about 4 minutes. (I also use it to boil water for tea.) 2) Love the carafe. Keeps liquid warm for a long while. Once, the coffee from the night before was still hot the next morning. Plus, the carafe is attractive enough to bring to the table. 3) Turns off automatically. There is no hot plate underneath, so there is never the risk of forgetting to turn it off and burning the house down. 4) Simple to use. I'm a coffee idiot, and even I can make the coffee fine. 5) Interesting drip design. No mess, and you can interrupt with no spills. Now the not so great stuff: 1) It's a big appliance for making only 8 measly cups. 2) No timer. 3) Carafe is harder to clean. Can't get my hand in the opening to clean, but that's just my nitpicking. Instructions say to only rinse with water anyway. (Not good enough for me.) Anyway, after this purchase I am a convert to the Amazon refurbished product. I've priced similar new carafe coffee makers at the store, and they really are priced at around $100 bucks, so this $12 Friday sale buy was a nice score.

Coffee Maker that Leaks!, July 23, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Factory-Reconditioned Cuisinart COF-900FR Thermal Carafe 8-Cup Coffeemaker (Kitchen)
Great Carafe. Nice Price. But the Coffeemaker has a leak and puts water all over the counter top instead of in the coffee pot. Factory Reconditioned?--Not very well, I think. Stay Away. Stay very far away.

I purchased this on the Friday sale for $12 for my husband who is a coffee fanatic. He has wanted a carafe type coffee maker for a long time. Couldn't resist the price, even though I have never purcased a reconditioned/refurbished item before. Good points: fast brewing, carafe keeps coffee warm. Bad points: no see through line gauge to show you how much coffee is left in carafe, no timer, large maker for only 8 cups, and VERY hard to clean. WORST POINT: I have had the coffee maker since July 11, and it stopped working 2 weeks ago. I contacted Amazon, but they would not let me return it since the 30 days is up. I was advised I must return it to the manufacturer! Big hassle!!!
