5.0 out of 5 stars Great Bargain
I bought this product recently during a Friday sale, at 90% off the regular price. To be honest, I didn't need it; I don't personally drink coffee. But I wanted to have something around for guests and for 12 bucks, I gave it a shot.

It was a terrific buy! What I like about it?

1.0 out of 5 stars Coffee Maker that Leaks!
Great Carafe. Nice Price. But the Coffeemaker has a leak and puts water all over the counter top instead of in the coffee pot. Factory Reconditioned?--Not very well, I think. Stay Away. Stay very far away.

I bought this product recently during a Friday sale, at 90% off the regular price. To be honest, I didn't need it; I don't personally drink coffee. But I wanted to have something around for guests and for 12 bucks, I gave it a shot.

It was a terrific buy! What I like about it?
1) It's the fastest coffee maker I've ever seen. Heats and finishes 8 cups in about 4 minutes. (I also use it to boil water for tea.)
2) Love the carafe. Keeps liquid warm for a long while. Once, the coffee from the night before was still hot the next morning. Plus, the carafe is attractive enough to bring to the table.
3) Turns off automatically. There is no hot plate underneath, so there is never the risk of forgetting to turn it off and burning the house down.
4) Simple to use. I'm a coffee idiot, and even I can make the coffee fine.
5) Interesting drip design. No mess, and you can interrupt with no spills.

Now the not so great stuff:
1) It's a big appliance for making only 8 measly cups.
2) No timer.
3) Carafe is harder to clean. Can't get my hand in the opening to clean, but that's just my nitpicking. Instructions say to only rinse with water anyway. (Not good enough for me.)

Anyway, after this purchase I am a convert to the Amazon refurbished product. I've priced similar new carafe coffee makers at the store, and they really are priced at around $100 bucks, so this $12 Friday sale buy was a nice score.

2.0 out of 5 stars Skip reconditioned!, October 18, 2003

This review is from: Factory-Reconditioned Cuisinart COF-900FR Thermal Carafe 8-Cup Coffeemaker (Kitchen)
I purchased this on the Friday sale for $12 for my husband who is a coffee fanatic. He has wanted a carafe type coffee maker for a long time. Couldn't resist the price, even though I have never purcased a reconditioned/refurbished item before.
Good points: fast brewing, carafe keeps coffee warm.
Bad points: no see through line gauge to show you how much coffee is left in carafe, no timer, large maker for only 8 cups, and VERY hard to clean.
WORST POINT: I have had the coffee maker since July 11, and it stopped working 2 weeks ago. I contacted Amazon, but they would not let me return it since the 30 days is up. I was advised I must return it to the manufacturer! Big hassle!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars You won't find a pot to keep your coffee hotter longer!, September 8, 2003
This review is from: Factory-Reconditioned Cuisinart COF-900FR Thermal Carafe 8-Cup Coffeemaker (Kitchen)
I'm not the coffee-drinker...my husband is. But he's notorious for not finishing the whole pot, so lots of coffee goes down the drain. Not anymore! This thermal carafe is amazing...he made a pot in the morning before leaving for work, and then when he got home that night, he went to pour out what was left and found that it was still so hot that it STEAMED as it came out! Unbelievable, really...it had been 12 hours. And since it's not continuously exposed to heat, it's just as fresh as when it was first made...no "cooked" flavor. So now his morning coffee can be finished at night, or his night-time coffee can be finished in the morning! No more wasted coffee. He loves this pot. And since the carafe itself is cool to the touch, you can take it with you anywhere in the house. You could even take it in the car for travel! My only disappointment with this was that Amazon's picture represented the carafe as having a stainless steel exterior...IT DOESN'T! It's either solid white or solid black. The only reason I bought this pot was because we remodeled our kitchen with stainless steel appliances and I wanted a pot to match. But despite that, my husband was very happy with it anyway.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great coffeemaker, but 8-cup capacity, August 22, 2003

This is a terrific coffeemaker and is a steal at the price. It makes very hot coffee that stays hot for hours in the carafe. Note that it appears that the COF-900 is an 8-cup machine, so if you need 10 cups this is not for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars After years of sludge, hot coffee, August 14, 2003

This review is from: Factory-Reconditioned Cuisinart COF-900FR Thermal Carafe 8-Cup Coffeemaker (Kitchen)
If your household has separate rising times or coffee hours, this is the coffee maker for you. My husband gets up at a ridiculous hour, and I have been the recipient of murky, thick coffee for years. The carafe works well and isn't as delicate as a glass thermal might sound. Brews quickly, then shuts off - great for kid homes. Coffee stays hot and fresh for hours.

3.0 out of 5 stars Incorrect information, August 11, 2003

This review is from: Factory-Reconditioned Cuisinart COF-900FR Thermal Carafe 8-Cup Coffeemaker (Kitchen)
This is a good coffeemaker, BUT it's 8 cups not 10. I have told amazon and see that they have not corrected the information. Don't expect a 10 cup.

I've had thermal carafe coffeemakers before & have always been disappointed somehow. Carafes crack, coffee doesn't brew very hot, brews weak, etc. But this one make REALLY hot coffee and it stays hot for hours! Yes, it was factory reconditioned, but I can't see any wear or flaws on the machine. Couldn't be happier!

I am notorious for leaving coffee sitting a long time. It makes my wife crazy. So I bought this refurbished maker. It's great. No problems and the coffee stays hot and tasting great for hours. I will definitely not go back to a regular maker.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Coffee Maker at a Great Price, August 11, 2003

This review is from: Factory-Reconditioned Cuisinart COF-900FR Thermal Carafe 8-Cup Coffeemaker (Kitchen)
I can't say enough good things about this coffee maker. If you want an inexpensive coffee maker that brews very hot, good tasting coffee with an amazing carafe that keeps the coffee hot for a long time, this is the machine for you. No worries about leaving home and forgetting to turn off the heat plate, there is none. The thermal carafe does an incredible job of keeping the coffee hot for hours without need for heat. Unit turns itself off after brewing. Finally, I've found a really good coffee maker.
