Flawless Reconditioned Toaster Oven, September 25, 2003
This review is from: Factory-Reconditioned Cuisinart TOB-30BCFR Classic Toaster Oven Broiler, Brushed Chrome (Kitchen)
I must admit, I was a little concerned after purchasing this toaster oven and reading the negative reviews. My concerns were completely taken away when I tested this darling in my home. My toaster oven came with a few cosmetic scuffs on the top which will go completely unnoticed considering the brushed chrome. Following is my experience with this toaster oven 1. Size. Yes its big. Its about 2x the size of your average toaster oven. However it is an appropriate size for what it does. It has 2 slots to put the rack and/or baking tray broiler on either a medium or low position. Yes this is a heavy toaster oven. If all you do in your toaster oven is make bread and an occasional waffle, dont bother getting this oven. You'd be much better served with a Black and Decker. 2. Settings. For me these are exactly what I wanted. Seperate segments on a dial for Broil, Bake and Toast. I do a lot of toaster oven cooking. I dont like to fire up my big gas oven to make a meal for 1 or 2 people, and sometimes I just need an extra oven. This is perfect for me. When I toasted my first piece of bread (as with all toaster ovens or toasters for that matter) it burned on the medium toast setting. You need to find your own personal learning curve for toasting. And this learning curve will change as crumbs burn onto the elements. 3. Heat. This oven heats up pretty darn fast considering its so big. Compared to smaller toaster ovens if you're more familiar with them, this will take a little longer to heat up than you are accustomed to. Also do not store potholders or anything plastic on top of this toaster oven or near its sides. You will wind up with a gooey mess. Its very warm to the touch when fully heated to 500 degrees. However its not the firehazard of a toaster oven that I am replacing with this one. 4. Warranty. Reconditioned products come with a 90 day warranty not a full warranty like a brand new one. If you're concerned about warranties, this is a major concern for you. I would test this product immediately upon reciept if you're planning on keeping it around for gift giving or for a potential move (like I'm doing) All in all, this has been an incredible experience for me with this toaster oven. The product looks new, operates like new and except for the warranty, I'd suspect that the toaster oven I recieved was a returned product. And the price cannot be beat. I could have gotten a brand new Black and Decker for this price with none of the wonderful features of this one and considering the B&D's reviews I've been seeing around here, this toaster oven is a dream With all reconditioned products though you are taking a risk. However with Amazon's wonderful return policy, if you get something severely defected, returns are a breeze.

Exceeded My Expectations...And then some!, September 16, 2003
This review is from: Factory-Reconditioned Cuisinart TOB-30BCFR Classic Toaster Oven Broiler, Brushed Chrome (Kitchen)
I own a lot of Cuisinart products (food processor, waffler, ice cream maker, toaster, coffee maker...you get the point) so I'm familiar with the exceptional quality. But I was not prepared for what arrived at my door yesterday. First, I was amazed at how HEAVY this toaster oven was; 20lbs shipping weight. In addition, I expected to see some smudges and scratches considering that this is a refurbished piece of equipment. What I pulled out of the box could not be distinguished from new with the exception of a small scuff on the upper rear panel of the toaster. This is a BIG unit. When they say that you could cook a 5lb chicken in this oven, it's no exaggeration. Finally - How does it work? First, I fired it up to cook some chicken nuggets and tater tots for the kids. 425 degrees came in less than 3 minutes! Not that these are gourmet items, but the nuggets and tater tots cooked perfectly to a nice golden brown in about 9 minutes instead of the requisite 13-15 in my large gas oven. And on a hot day (98 degrees yesterday) it'll be a real God-send. Oh...I made some toast for the kids this morning and that works equally well. You simply cannot go wrong - especially at this price. I'm thinking about buying a few more and giving them out as Xmas gifts.

Other than the scratches... it's a nice value!, September 18, 2003

This was my 1st time buying anything reconditioned & I wasn't real happy with it's appearance. Then I quickly remembered what our teens did to the last new one(hot metal oven & plastic bread bag just aren't a good combo)! Plugged it in & have to say, this 'lil Cuisinart works like a champ! The door, pans & inside are all brand new, it's just spotless! The 3 yr. warranty was an added assurance! Knowing that it can even heat a casserole is terrific, too! A couple dings(at the back) & a few scratches are soon forgotten when you look at the total value of this toaster oven. "Pleasantly pleased" is putting it mildly!
