I bought this sander to replace my Porter Cable. The first one I recieved ate belts like crazy. I called Dewalt, they said bring it in. As I live 3 hours away from the nearest servce center, I called Amazon and was sent a replacement overnight for free. The replacement works great, as with any belt sander dust colection is so, so but it works well, is heavy enough to do the job but still light enough to use all day.

I bought this sander as a replacement for a Makita I've used for about 15 years. The sander works very well, I've used it on several projects, including finishing the ends of a pergola, and flushing up the ends of a deck. The belt is easy to adjust, and when set doesn't need re-calibration. The speed control works very well. All in all it's a very good machine.

I received the above belt sander and was pleased upon its arrival, however, upon use am very unhappy. The belt does not track properly and comes off the sander, even when using the tracking adjustment to the point it falls out! I contacted DeWalt and they advised taking it in for service as the tension spring is apparently malaligned, what is the point when it shoud have worked to begin with? I will have to take the unit for Warranty Repair, but since I needed it to paint the house, it seems to defeat the purpose.

this thing will sand so fast you will need to be extra carefull!!its heavy also. but sands like mad

I have used this a few times and has performed well. No problems. Saved a bunch of money over a new one.

The belt sander was supposed to be reconditioned by Dewalt. Tried to adjust belt tracking could not. Took it to the DEWALT REPAIR CENTER and the mechanism was bent. This should have been checked and fixed at the Dewalt reconditioning center. This sander has some fatal flaws -

1. There are a few pieces of this sander that stick down below the sand paper (part of the plastic housing, and the rubber tab on the dust bag). Both are a problem and need to be altered in order to use the sander on a flat surface or they will catch, skew the sander, and leave a nasty scour in the wood. The part of the housing that sticks down is a raised border for the serial #. WTH?

2. The sandpaper spool tracking adjustment is very small and doesn't hold. The sandpaper frequently just shoots off the sander. This may have something to do with #1. I have used 3 different brands of sanpaper w/ the same results.

3. The speed adjustment is on the handle, so it has to be taped in place or it changes as you grip and move the sander. After 4 or 5 half days of use my tape slipped and my hand turned the sander up to 3 (out of 6). A few minutes later, it caught fire and now it is in the Dewalt hospital awaiting a diagnosis.

This is the best belt sander I have ever used its heavy but yet vary easy to control the dust canister works great and is vary easy to empty.
