This is a reconditioned power tool. Reconditioned generally means that the tool has been returned to the manufacturer, who brings the tool back to like new condition. Some tools may contain cosmetic blemishes.

The DW4KIT-2 includes a drill/driver/hammerdrill, saw with blade and rip fence, reciprocating saw with blade, flexible floodlight, one-hour charger, two XR+ batteries, screwdriver bit, and carrying case. The DW988 18-volt, 1/2-inch mid-handle adjustable-clutch drill/driver/hammerdrill uses a DeWalt-built high-torque motor to deliver 450 in./lbs. of torque for drilling bigger holes and driving bigger screws. Besides boosting torque, DeWalt is the first company to add a three-speed transmission that produces more rpm for faster drilling and driving applications. Low speed (first gear) and high speed (second gear) are similar to other cordless drills currently available. However, the new MAX third speed is 38 percent faster, with a range of 0 to 2,000 rpm. Ideal for jobs that previously required the high speed, the MAX third speed is noticeably faster for wood and metal screwdriving and drilling, and especially for hammerdrilling into masonry, where the MAX speed drills holes up to 33 percent faster. The bpm range on the MAX third speed setting ranges from 0 to 34,000. The DW988 features a 1/2-inch ratcheting chuck lock with carbide jaws to keep a tighter grip on the bit. The ratcheting chuck lock consists of two elements: an automatic spindle lock that allows users to tighten down on the chuck twice as hard, and ratcheting action to prevent the chuck sleeve from loosening during the job. Other features include all-metal gearing and a metal gear case for durability, and an antislip comfort grip to reduce user fatigue. The DW938 reciprocating saw cuts 50 2-by-4s on one charge. It takes just seconds to change the blade thanks to the innovative keyless lever action. The DW939 6-1/2-inch saw has the power to cut up to 145 2-by-4s on one charge. It has a left side blade for visibility, 50-degree bevel, and includes a rip fence. The DW919 has a flexible neck, which allows the user to point the beam in any direction. It offers up to three hours of continuous lighting on one charge.

I purchased this set and found it to be returns that were not fixed. I have purchaced reconditioned porter cable tools before with no problems. Each component of this Dewalt set had a problem. The drill had a slipping clutch, one battery had a loose clip that would not stay in the tool, the saw clearly had a problem in the gears from the sound.

Selling this item as "reconditioned" is false advertising.

I've been very happy with this purchase. The battery strength has lasted a long time, even when using the circular saw, or the drill and drilling into concrete. I've only had one problem with a battery that died on me, but it was replaced under factory warantee. Apparently that particular batch of bateries did have a defect.

Good set but I have had problems with the batteries that are shipping with these sets. The last 4 DeWalt reconditioned cordless tool sets I have purchased were shipped with batteries dated 2001 and most of those batteries have poor run time and low power. Compared to brand new batteries the difference is noticable. The 1-year warranty will get you a new battery if you find a service center that will replace them without a hassle. My service center does replace them, but they complain about it and I every time I take one in I am afraid they will refuse. For the price difference ($70) I recommend the new set which should come with batteries made in 2003.
