DeWalt DW734 Planer,
By
This review is from: Factory-Reconditioned DEWALT DW734R Heavy Duty 12-1/2-Inch Thickness Planer with 3-Knife Cutter Head (Tools & Home Improvement)
This was my first purchase from Amazon.com and a friend recommended that I see if what I was looking for was listed there. It was, and at a healthy savings to me from Hardware Sales in Washington state. After making the purchase, the item was shipped in a reasonable time and arrived in great shape. I read the owners manual and began using the machine. To be totally honest, I have never seen a planer that dressed a rough board into a smooth, polished, ready to finish piece of wood as this machine does. I am a cabinet maker and I am truly amazed at what this machine does. I will search Amazon.com in the future before I purchase other items.

The Plane Truth...,

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Factory-Reconditioned DEWALT DW734R Heavy Duty 12-1/2-Inch Thickness Planer with 3-Knife Cutter Head (Tools & Home Improvement)
This is the second planer that I have owned. This one has worked well for me. I have used it a lot. I haul it outside to use so that I can control the shavings. I have replaced the knives once. My unit had a slight offset (the cutter head was not initally parallel with the base and required a little adjustment). It wasn't too difficult to do and my efforts seemed successful. Just in case, in order to compensate for any minor residual side to side offset,I always change the board direction for the last pass, without moving the cutter head, and I try to make certain that the board follows the same trajectory. This has worked well for me. I adjusted the head locking system to provide positive vertical position control. I always use this unit with a caliper to monitor actual board thickness. In cold weather, the traction system sometimes slips a little. Making certain that excessive sawdust/shavings build-up is removed helps maintain good traction, though. Head elevation screws should be kept clean and properly oiled. Excessive sawdust will interfere with smooth operation and should be periodically wiped off the elevation screws. The triple bladed cutter head produces good results.
