I bought this drill over the DC720KA and wow, this is an insane drill. When you pick this thing up, you know you are holding onto something extremely tough and robust. The business end is all steel, the chuck is all steel, and it has two clutch rings, so you can switch from drill mode to driver mode without having to run all the way through the clutch. The 3 speed transmission is all metal and it changes with a nice solid click, I have used so many other drills with 2 and 3 speed transmissions and sometimes the only way to make them change is to squeeze the trigger a little while changing - this drill has none of that - just a solid click.

Pull the trigger and you realize just how powerful this thing is, I have used it a lot with #12 2.5" screws into studs with no pilot holes while installing shelving (which is how I killed my trusty 18v Black & Decker) and this drill just drives them home effortlessly. I am using it with the XRP NiCd batteries, although this drill has the smaller base for the Lithium Ion batteries, but that is just because I have NiCd batteries. I may buy a Lithium Ion battery when one of my NiCd batteries dies, but for now, they work great.

If you are looking for the ultimate solid 18V Cordless drill, this is it, if you want a hammer function as well, then go for the DCD950KX same drill with a hammer function.

After writing all of this, I am still considering selling this drill and getting a DC720KA as I feel the more compact drill would be more suitable for my use. This is a monster, and I really will not do it justice in the way I work, so I really just want something lighter and smaller.

I just got this reconditioned drill kit today and upon opening the box I was really disappointed seeing the (2) included 18V batteries were old reconditioned batteries assembled in Mexico dated back in early 2010. I compared my existing new 18V battery closely to the reconditioned kit batteries and these are knock offs. You can easily scrape off the XRP battery emblem from the side of the batteries with your thumbnail. I then took my existing 18V XRP battery and tried to scrape off the XRP emblem on my battery and its impossible to even scratch it.

That was enough for me, I figure if I can't trust the batteries lasting, how can I trust that the drill itself will hold up. The battery deal was enough to make me rethink my purchase and come here and give people a heads up on the so called Factory Reconditioned drill kit.

Not much price difference between a new XRP drill kit and this reconditioned one. I did my homework before I bought this drill kit by calling Dewalt customer service and asking if this drill (Factory Reconditioned) came with new or reconditioned batteries and Dewalt customer service said "the drill was reconditioned but they always include new batteries and a new warranty". It made me mad to see reconditioned batteries from Mexico when the listing clearly stated "Factory Reconditioned Dewalt drill kit". It's going back, I've already ordered a (New Drill kit) (not factory reconditioned) from Amazon, paid a little more but at least I know what I'm getting and don't have to worry about the batteries or the drill conking out on me.

This item was suppose to be a factory reconditioned item. It is not. It is a used item without a warrenty. Any factory reconditioned item would have a new warrenty with it. This item had scratches and a dent on it. We have returned this item.

I really like this drill, we have used Dewalt at work for the last few years and they hold up well, I do not use mine as much at home so Im sure it will be around for a lifetime.

I purchased this drill for our Maintenance Dept. Delivery was quick. The maintenance men are happy with the drill. For the price it was an excellent buy.
