Amazon.com Review

The world’s only true cyclonic vacuum, generating 100,000 g of centrifugal force and pulling dirt into an indestructible canister made from the same material used for crash helmets. Named for both its power and its ruthless approach to pet hair problems, the Dyson DC07 Animal upright is a piece of engineering wizardry designed by James Dyson, the inventor of cyclonic vacuums. A hit in Europe for years, Dyson vacuums are new to the American market. At the center of the machine's innovation is the Cyclone air path design, an eight-section chamber that creates powerful, consistent suction. The conical chambers generate 100,000 g of centrifugal force, pushing dust and dirt out of the airflow into the vacuum's 1-gallon collection cup. With no bag to clog, the vacuum's 270 air watts of suction remain steady. The large, transparent collection cup is easy to check and empties tidily--pop it off, hold it over a trash bin, and pull the trigger to release dirt without having to touch it. The DC07 also comes equipped with a multipart filtration system to improve overall air quality in the home. The HEPA filter, measuring 412 square inches in surface area, traps microscopic particulates and allerg. Expertly built, the filter is designed to last the lifetime of the machine.

Suitable for bare floors and carpets, the Dyson upright features a 14-inch cleaning path and edge-cleaning bristles. A foot pedal switches off the brush roll for bare floors, and the nozzle automatically adjusts for various carpet heights. For above-floor cleaning, the vacuum also comes with a cleverly stowed, 17-foot quick-release hose with a reversible extension-wand handle. Onboard accessories include a crevice tool, a dusting brush, an upholstery attachment, and the Animal turbo tool. Designed for lint and stubborn pet hair, the turbo tool features an air-powered brush bar to extract hair from furniture, stairs, pet beds, cars, and other tight spaces.

Made from the same material used in crash helmets, the vacuum is unquestionably durable. Plus, the design only puts 4 pounds of weight on the handle, so pushing and turning is easy. This model comes with a 35-foot power cord. It also includes a carpet care kit--a canister of Groom Zorb odor-absorbent carpet cleaning powder and a bottle of Dyzolv spray for spills and stains. --Emily Bedard

Editor's note: This is a reconditioned vacuum. Reconditioned generally means that the vacuum has been returned to the manufacturer, who brings the vacuum back to like-new condition. Some appliances may contain cosmetic blemishes.

Product Description

Skillfully engineered by James Dyson, inventor of the world's first cyclonic bagless vacuum, this upright unit doesn't lose suction power. Unlike bag or bagless systems that often weaken from dust clogging the bag or filter, there is nothing to obstruct the airflow of this unit. Its Root8Cyclone technology features conical chambers that generate 100,000 g of centrifugal force, pushing dust and dirt out of the airflow into the vacuum's 8/9-gallon collection cup. With no bag to clog, the vacuum's 270 air watts of suction power remain steady. The Animal model is designed specifically to remove pet hair from confined spaces such as upholstery, stairs and the car. Editor's note: This is a reconditioned vacuum cleaner. Reconditioned generally means that the cleaner has been returned to the manufacturer, who restores the unit to like-new condition. Some cleaners may contain cosmetic blemishes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Amazing!, June 9, 2004

this machine is something else! I always thought it was ludicrous to pay more than $100 for a vacuum, but this machine makes it all worth it, even thought I got it reconditioned and as a Gold Box purchase. There are a few blemishes on the machine and I had to figure out how to get the machine to stay upright, but otherwise it is like brand new! Living in an apartment, the carpet isn't exactly top quality and it gets treated differently by different people. On top of that I have a longhair cat, so there is hair and dander practically everywhere. The carpet treatment power makes the carpet here look like new, feels like new walking on it. This is well worth the investment of several hundered $$$. I will certainly recommend this to everyone I possibly can.

My old vacuum was a Fantom Cyclone XT. I was very happy with it and wouldn't have bought this one except I broke a part on the Fantom that I couldn't get replaced. While I was trying to find the part, the house was getting dirty and finally I went "window shopping" on Amazon and looked the Dyson up. Well, refurbished it was just about affordable. So I ordered it and assumed I would get a machine that was comparable to the Fantom. After all, they are both bagless cyclonic action machines. Not so! The Dyson is way better than the Fantom! I was really surprised. This machine CLEANS like a maniac! It is well worth the money, and even though I now have the part for my Fantom, I'm keeping this one.

It's not perfect, there are some things I'd change on it if I could, but they are small things. The sheer cleaning power of this machine overides the small stuff.

By the way, this may be a refurbished vacuum, but it looks and works like new.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just wonderful and great for allergy sufferers!, June 13, 2004

This review is from: Factory-Reconditioned Dyson DC07 Cyclone Animal Upright Vacuum, Purple (Kitchen)
I love my Dyson Animal. I was wary about spending so much on a vacuum, even a lower-priced reconditioned one, but my allergies to ragweed, pollen, and dust have been bothering me more and more as I get older and I was determined to try to make my indoor environment cleaner than traditional vacuums could make it. So I sprung for this Dyson with its HEPA filtration and it's been worth every penny. The reconditioned unit arrived looking brand new and clean. There was just a small scratch on the side and it was barely noticeable.

First of all, it does a great job cleaning. I was shocked at the amount of junk it took out of my area carpets and floors, including a very fine dust that collected in the center of the canister. The tools do a nice job and the vacuum is generally well designed. Contrary to another review, the tools (at least 3 of them) do fit on the vacuum. The floor and turbo tools do not but that is not a big deal. I wonder if that reviewer took the time to read the manual. Also, it does a fine job on my medium size area rugs which are fairly dense. It does not pull up or suck in the corners. If you are having problems with area rugs, use the floor tool in either the low or high position. Note: the otherwise well-written manual does not explain how to adjust the floor tool. I had to call customer service and they walked me through it. If you don't adjust it properly, it will STICK to hardwood floors because of the incredibly strong suction and you will be unable to easily move it. It was actually quite funny when I first tried it out and it was practically glued to the floor!

It's immediately gratifying when you see all the gunk being collected, your rugs look and feel so much cleaner and newer, and your surroundings smell so much fresher and clearer. It puts you in a happy mood!

Now about my allergies. Along with the Dyson I also bought an Ionic Breeze GP from the Sharper Image the same week. These two together have done an incredible job of alleviating my allergies. I only wish I had tried them earlier. My nasal passages are less congested, I wake up in the morning breathing freely, my eyes are hardly ever itchy, and I rarely take antihistamines and decongestants now. I went from taking them almost all the time to taking just a pill every couple of days to quell an occasional sneezing spell. Mind you, my allergies are at their worst during the ragweed season from mid-August to October. So that will be the real test. But I'm pretty confident the Dyson and Ionic Breeze will make a big difference compared to years past. They already have.

About the warranty - Buy it with a Visa card that offers the Warranty Manager Service, and then go register it on the Visa website. The Warranty Manager Service will double the manufacturer's warranty up to 1 year for warranties of 3 years or less. I bought my Dyson with an Amazon platinum Visa which offers this benefit. Therefore, I now have one year of coverage instead of just 6 months. Be sure to save your receipts, credit card statement, and printed warranties. Visa also offers an additional benefit that lets you extend the warranty for a fee - ie, 3 additional years for about $50. So there are ways to get extra protection for your reconditioned Dyson if you want it.

I only have one minor complaint. The Dyson is a little heavy. But it's not hard to maneuver. As far as sound goes, it's about average. Neither the noisiest nor the quietest I have used. All in all, the Dyson is one of the best investments I have ever made.
