3.0 out of 5 stars Nice try on the pricing
I checked on Dyson's web page and the only list this model at $499 NOT $620. $269 for a used vaccum is not that great a deal ands its really only 46% off price of a new one.

Tim
P.S. I have 2 dogs and would love to find a vacuum that worked great on pet hair.

this machine is something else! I always thought it was ludicrous to pay more than $100 for a vacuum, but this machine makes it all worth it, even thought I got it reconditioned and as a Gold Box purchase. There are a few blemishes on the machine and I had to figure out how to get the machine to stay upright, but otherwise it is like brand new! Living in an apartment, the carpet isn't exactly top quality and it gets treated differently by different people. On top of that I have a longhair cat, so there is hair and dander practically everywhere. The carpet treatment power makes the carpet here look like new, feels like new walking on it. This is well worth the investment of several hundered $$$. I will certainly recommend this to everyone I possibly can.

My old vacuum was a Fantom Cyclone XT. I was very happy with it and wouldn't have bought this one except I broke a part on the Fantom that I couldn't get replaced. While I was trying to find the part, the house was getting dirty and finally I went "window shopping" on Amazon and looked the Dyson up. Well, refurbished it was just about affordable. So I ordered it and assumed I would get a machine that was comparable to the Fantom. After all, they are both bagless cyclonic action machines. Not so! The Dyson is way better than the Fantom! I was really surprised. This machine CLEANS like a maniac! It is well worth the money, and even though I now have the part for my Fantom, I'm keeping this one.

It's not perfect, there are some things I'd change on it if I could, but they are small things. The sheer cleaning power of this machine overides the small stuff.

By the way, this may be a refurbished vacuum, but it looks and works like new.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just wonderful and great for allergy sufferers!, June 13, 2004

This review is from: Factory-Reconditioned Dyson DC07 Cyclone Animal Upright Vacuum, Purple (Kitchen)
I love my Dyson Animal. I was wary about spending so much on a vacuum, even a lower-priced reconditioned one, but my allergies to ragweed, pollen, and dust have been bothering me more and more as I get older and I was determined to try to make my indoor environment cleaner than traditional vacuums could make it. So I sprung for this Dyson with its HEPA filtration and it's been worth every penny. The reconditioned unit arrived looking brand new and clean. There was just a small scratch on the side and it was barely noticeable.

First of all, it does a great job cleaning. I was shocked at the amount of junk it took out of my area carpets and floors, including a very fine dust that collected in the center of the canister. The tools do a nice job and the vacuum is generally well designed. Contrary to another review, the tools (at least 3 of them) do fit on the vacuum. The floor and turbo tools do not but that is not a big deal. I wonder if that reviewer took the time to read the manual. Also, it does a fine job on my medium size area rugs which are fairly dense. It does not pull up or suck in the corners. If you are having problems with area rugs, use the floor tool in either the low or high position. Note: the otherwise well-written manual does not explain how to adjust the floor tool. I had to call customer service and they walked me through it. If you don't adjust it properly, it will STICK to hardwood floors because of the incredibly strong suction and you will be unable to easily move it. It was actually quite funny when I first tried it out and it was practically glued to the floor!

It's immediately gratifying when you see all the gunk being collected, your rugs look and feel so much cleaner and newer, and your surroundings smell so much fresher and clearer. It puts you in a happy mood!

Now about my allergies. Along with the Dyson I also bought an Ionic Breeze GP from the Sharper Image the same week. These two together have done an incredible job of alleviating my allergies. I only wish I had tried them earlier. My nasal passages are less congested, I wake up in the morning breathing freely, my eyes are hardly ever itchy, and I rarely take antihistamines and decongestants now. I went from taking them almost all the time to taking just a pill every couple of days to quell an occasional sneezing spell. Mind you, my allergies are at their worst during the ragweed season from mid-August to October. So that will be the real test. But I'm pretty confident the Dyson and Ionic Breeze will make a big difference compared to years past. They already have.

About the warranty - Buy it with a Visa card that offers the Warranty Manager Service, and then go register it on the Visa website. The Warranty Manager Service will double the manufacturer's warranty up to 1 year for warranties of 3 years or less. I bought my Dyson with an Amazon platinum Visa which offers this benefit. Therefore, I now have one year of coverage instead of just 6 months. Be sure to save your receipts, credit card statement, and printed warranties. Visa also offers an additional benefit that lets you extend the warranty for a fee - ie, 3 additional years for about $50. So there are ways to get extra protection for your reconditioned Dyson if you want it.

I only have one minor complaint. The Dyson is a little heavy. But it's not hard to maneuver. As far as sound goes, it's about average. Neither the noisiest nor the quietest I have used. All in all, the Dyson is one of the best investments I have ever made.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lives up to its reputation, May 31, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Factory-Reconditioned Dyson DC07 Cyclone Animal Upright Vacuum, Purple (Kitchen)
I've had this product for a few days, and I must say that it's the best-performing vacuum I've ever owned.

Positives:

- The unit requires minimum assembly, once removed from its shipping box.
- It is vastly more effective at dirt and hair pick-up than my previous vacuums (Hoover, Panasonic), measured, in part, by the frequency with which I've had to empty the dust bin (see next). Rarely, if ever, do you need to go over the same spot twice in order to pick up every speck of visible dirt, hair, etc.
- I really like the fact that the dust bin is clear plastic, and you can tell when it's nearing full, something you can't do in a vacuum that uses bags.
- The bin is "dirt simple" to empty, just hold it over a trash receptacle and squeeze the door release trigger, and it empties from the bottom.
- The HEPA filter is very effective in keeping the air free of dust while you vacuum.
- The Animal turbo tool, which attaches to the hose for cleaning stairs, does a very good job of picking up hair and dirt (we have two dogs, so this tool was one of the reasons I purchased).
- It's quieter than I expected, given its suction power.
- It's easy to push / pull and maneuver, not as heavy as I thought it might be.

Negatives:

- The unit is just fair in terms of its ability to clean close to baseboards and other edges.
- Using the attachment hose requires that you remove the unit's handle (which nests inside the hose), and when finished, insert the handle back in the hose and secure it to the base unit. This is far less convenient than the arrangement with our previous Hoover, and is the main reason I didn't give this machine a five-star rating.
- You have to empty the dust bin more frequently than you would change bags in a normal vacuum, not just because of the unit's efficiency, but also because the dust doesn't compress in the bin. So you could view this as a slight disadvantage.
- It's very purple (not really a disadvantage, but hard to ignore).

I purchased my Animal as a reconditioned unit, and have no regrets about the decision in terms of operation or cosmetics. It looks and operates like a brand-new machine. The only downside is that the warranty is 6 months vs. 2 years, but for the difference in price, I think that's a worthwhile trade-off.

Bottom line: you won't be disappointed if you buy this machine!

Everything about this machine, DC07 Animal, and Dyson Corp. is fabulous! When my old vacuum died, I purchased a refurbished machine and it looked brand new coming out of the box. I have 3 cats and it is the summer. You can imagine the hair. This machine picked up 3 weeks worth of cat hair off the carpet in seconds. It is lightweight, easy to assemble and when I needed more information their customer service was outstanding... patient, thorough, friendly AND open at 8AM EST. As far as vacuums go, this one is quiet. No more bags and the clear dirt container is easily removed so that you can empty it without touching any of the contents. Finally, a cord that is long enough (37 ft) so that I don't have to keep changing plugs from room to room. I can't wait to do the stairs! Dyson you have made vacuuming a pleasure rather than a "chore".

My only constructive comment is the shipping was confusing. The shipper is Eagle. They use your Amazon information for telephone contact. If that info is not updated there will be a miscommunication regarding delivery. Eagle wants a release note allowing them to deliver the machine without a direct personal contact and signature or to schedule the delivery when you are home. Once we cleared up the contact issues, all went very well.

5.0 out of 5 stars This vacuum cleaner really sucks!!, June 29, 2004
By
Big Daddy's Girl (Wild and Beautiful Montana!) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Factory-Reconditioned Dyson DC07 Cyclone Animal Upright Vacuum, Purple (Kitchen)
And I mean that it sucks in a good way. I have to admit that I balked a little at the price. I mean, who wants to lay out $350 for a vacuum cleaner (and a refurbished one at that!)? But, I took the plunge and bought it anyway based on all the positive reviews that have been written about it so far.

Our house is home to three dogs, three cats, and one 19 month old. You can imagine the hair and other "stuff" that gets on the carpet. Well, it arrived today and I just had to break it out of the box and try it out. It was very easy to assemble. I had it together in about 5 minutes. I vacuumed our carpet, which wasn't that dirty (or so I thought), and was amazed that I filled up the canister with pet hair and this baby powder like dust. I only went over the carpet one time, too. I emptied the canister and tried out the turbo tool on our furniture and wool kilim throw pillows. There was cat and dog hair that had worked its way into those pillows that had been there for over a year. Not even those pet lint rollers could get some of that hair out! The turbo tool removed all the hair off our furniture and those pillows, too.

Also, this vacuum cleaner is reasonably light and easy to handle. I'm seven months pregnant and I had no problems maneuvering it or using the attachments.

Overall, I'm very pleased with the refurbished Dyson. I'm impressed with the suction and design of this machine. If you're hesitant about getting the refurbished model, I can tell you that mine came out of the box looking brand new. I can't find a blemish on it anywhere. It works great and I'm sure I'll get my $350 out of it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Glad I bought reconditioned instead of new, June 13, 2004

This review is from: Factory-Reconditioned Dyson DC07 Cyclone Animal Upright Vacuum, Purple (Kitchen)
My Animal arrived quickly in a few days w/supersaver free shipping. I thought $350 was alot to pay for a vacuum but I wanted a good one that didn't have extra costs for filters or bags. This is my first Dyson so I was ok with trying a reconditioned unit. It looks and operates like a brand-new machine, but the enclosed warranty is 6 months instead of 2 years. They ought to have made it 2 years for peace of mind.

I read the Nov 2003 Consumer Reports (CR) and the Dyson DC07 was ranked 14th.
Rank 1) Hoover WindTunnel Self Propelled Ultra,
Rank 2) Kenmore Progressive with Direct Drive
Rank 3) Eureka Boss Smart Vac Ultra ranked 3rd.
All three choices cost less than the Dyson. If you have time (I didn't), they may be worth investigating. The Dyscon does clean well, but not $350 well, perhaps $250.

Positives:
- The Animal turbo tool is awesome for cleaning in tight areas or vacuuming sofas. I don't have pets but it has found a ton of my wifes long hair.
- The clear canister is a handy & cool way to see how much dirt the vacuum is removing. It's also easy to empty.
- Comes with lots of useful attachments, but no handy place to put all of them so they'll end up in the back of a closet (yes a few attach to the vacuum).

Negatives:
- Doesn't clean along the carpet edges very well. Needs an attachment for that.
- Doesn't have an automatic cord retract, but does have lots & lots of cord.
- No suction control or ability to lightly vacuum over area rugs.
- The unit is tall enough to not go under most things, so the attachments are a must.
- The on/off switch is cheapy and will probably be the first thing to fault.

Bar none IMHO the top of the line in consumer vacuums. Not only the styling BUT it plain works PERIOD! We bought ours factory re-conditioned here @ Amazon. Worry free for half a year now and still going strong. Our only pet peeve: why not an automated AC plug rewinder? Anyway still worth the price. We bought this purple version for the Pet attachment and misc. Those who like to save in the long run owe yourself a try at it. Remember you get what you pay! Onwards with worry free cleaning.

5.0 out of 5 stars good deal, June 23, 2004

This review is from: Factory-Reconditioned Dyson DC07 Cyclone Animal Upright Vacuum, Purple (Kitchen)
Just received my vacuum, earlier than expected with the free shipping ( hooray for Amazon ). Vacuum arrived very clean. The only way I knew it wasn't new was by a slightly cloudy clear bin; which would get dirty after the first use anyway. Couldn't find a spec of dirt anywhere else not even on the tools. No scratches or dents and works great, especially the turbo brush on furniture. Well worth the $150 discount compared to new.

I had a Panasonic which was advertised as library quiet, but the Dyson is much quieter.

Everything seems so well engineered and thought out. Very satisfied.

Must admit I was a bit apprehensive about ordering a reconditioned item. It actually was delivered early - on Memorial Day. The vacuum looks brand new - I cannot see anything wrong with its appearance. I have only used it in one room so far, but I already know that it does exactly what they say it does. I have never owned such a powerful vacuum before and almost think I might end up enjoying using a vacuum!

So far I give it 5 Stars!
