5.0 out of 5 stars Best vacuum ever
I wasn't 100% sure about buying a factory-reconditioned unit, but when it arrived (a few days before I had expected it to!), I was happy to find that it was in great, like-new condition, the parts factory-sealed and everything. It was very simple to put together (I didn't even read the instructions in the new manual that came with it), and it even came with a six-month...

2.0 out of 5 stars Not worth $10...
I've had problems since day one. The brush bar makes a horrible noise, when it will turn on at all. Now it won't even turn any more. I've cleared the bar and there are no impediments - it turns freely, just not when it's on. These problems started within 2 minutes of plugging it in the first time, meaning this is a severe quality issue with Dyson's reconditioned...

I wasn't 100% sure about buying a factory-reconditioned unit, but when it arrived (a few days before I had expected it to!), I was happy to find that it was in great, like-new condition, the parts factory-sealed and everything. It was very simple to put together (I didn't even read the instructions in the new manual that came with it), and it even came with a six-month warranty. It works like a charm every time, and it's amazing how much stuff gets pulled up off the carpets. I especially love the longer cord. I can vacuum almost from one end of the house to the other (1600 SF on our lower level). My only complaint is that it almost has TOO much suction. It's hard to vacuum the rug on the carpet in the living room...it keeps lifting up!

5.0 out of 5 stars Impressed with Dyson, October 5, 2005

I bought the reconditioned Dyson DC14 Low Reach two months ago and have been impressed. First, seeing what the Dyson picked up from my carpet after vacuuming with my old sweeper was disgusting. The canister was full! It is like I have been vacuuming with a toy sweeper - all that time I wasted. Even after using the Dyson for two months, it still picks up more than I think is possible to be in my carpet. It is definitely an improvement over my old sweeper and I like being able to see the dirt in the canister when I am done cleaning.

Secondly, I was not sure about the factory reconditioned version since the warranty is only 6 months instead of the full 2 years. I had a piece break on the sweeper on the second use (the piece is not necessary to vacuum, only to dump the canister properly) and called Dyson customer service. They were very friendly on the phone and are shipping me a replacement part free. In case you are wondering, there are some skuff marks on the bottom front, but otherwise you would not know it was reconditioned.

The one thing it does not do as advertised is being able to vacuum all of my stairs without falling over. It will not reach all of my stairs without being moved up and does tend to fall towards the stairs if you keep pulling. To be fair, my first floor has 9 foot ceilings, so I have more stairs than normal.

I would recommend the reconditioned version in a heartbeat, especially since it was 2/3 of the cost of a new one.

This unit replaced our old trusty Panasonic. The difference is pretty remarkabkle. We have a heavy type 'modern shag' carpet in our family room. After only 6 months the high traffic locations were beat down and we figured that's life. With the Dyson - a coulple minutes every other day and it is almost like new again. I never imagined a cleaner could keep carpets looking this good. The noise level is far less than a traditional vac - you can actually talk over it without having to shout at the top of your lungs. If does an excellent job on hard surfaces as well. I purchased the refurb modeal for a total of 274.99 (price seems to fluctuate) and it was well worth it so far. You could tell that it had been used before, but only signs of slight use were present. If you are a warranty person you may want to go with the new version as it carries the full 2 year warranty vs. the 6 month on the refurb.

In a household with 2 cats and 3 dogs, I never thought I would find a vacuum to pick up EVERY hair in sight. I was wrong! The Dyson rocks!!! I, believe it or not, actually ENJOY vacuuming the house just to see what I can pick up now! It's an adventure each time I use it! I highly recommend this vacuum. It only took a minute to assemble and a few minutes more to master!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Dyson DC 14 Factory Reconditioned, October 14, 2005
This review is from: Factory-Reconditioned Dyson DC14 Low Reach Upright Vacuum (Kitchen)
This vacuum performs as advertised. It takes a few uses to figure out how everything works, such as emptying the dust container or using the onboard hose. The hose is not perfect but it does work on stairwells, etc. which is very handy. It does take a little tugging and repositoning to get everything working right. There was no sign of use on this reconditioned unit, which is the same experience I have had with reconditioned tools. It is an excellent way to save.

4.0 out of 5 stars Dyson DC14, September 29, 2005
This review is from: Factory-Reconditioned Dyson DC14 Low Reach Upright Vacuum (Kitchen)
This vacuum cleaner is great. It was amazing to see how much dirt had collected in the cylinder after vacuuming just one room. As far as the reconditioning of the vacuum, it was pretty dusty when I took it out of the box..could definitely tell that it had been used. However, the savings vs a new one are huge and worth it.

The attachments are great..my only complaint would be that they fit awkwardly into the cleaner (they have premade nooks for them to fit onto .it always falls off..better to just leave them somewhere else while you vacuum. I definitely recommend this vacuum to anyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Phenomenal Piece of Machinery, August 24, 2006

Like most other reviewers have stated my reconditioned vac came out of the box like new, in pristine condition, however it did have one minor flaw. There was a little clip that holds the crevice tool in place on the vacuumm, and one of the flanges that keeps it held in place broke during shipping, so one quick call to Dyson, and they were able to send the piece out to me in 7-10 business days, and they also registered the product for warranty services at the same time.

After testing my Dyson to make sure that it was in proper working order I damn near filled the collection canister with cat hair from a patch of carpet about 3 feet wide, by 6 feet in length. I cannot believe how much dirt and debris my older Eureka vacuum left behind (this unit worked quite well for the seven years I had owned it), and with two passes of the Dyson everything got lifted out.

One common gripe I see with other reviews is the fact that the carpet brush is suction powered, not belt driven, and in my honest oppinion I feel that is a much better configuration because that's one less part to wear out and require maintenance.

I'll be honest, I've never been one who enjoys any housekeeping chores, but this machine makes it fun, and easy to keep my floors clean. I got a huge laugh at the amount of debris I collected during the first use.

If you are even thinking about buying one of these machines stop pondering, and buy it now. If you're concerned about the cost get the reconditioned vacuum because you'll save at least $150.00, I opted for free shipping, and Amazon also offered an additional $25 off for kitchen/houseware purchases in excess of $125. This is the best purchase I have ever made, and the only thing I'm regretting is that I didn't purchase the full-kit, instead of the low-reach unit, however I honestly don't think I would use the additional accessories from that unit very much.

In closing, This Is The Best Vacuum On The Market And Everyone Should Own A Dyson!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Better than I expected, August 30, 2005

This review is from: Factory-Reconditioned Dyson DC14 Low Reach Upright Vacuum (Kitchen)
I recently bought the reconditioned Dyson DC14 lowreach upright from Amazon. I was a bit wary of a reconditioned product because I'd never bought other than brand new before.

I received the product a day ahead of it's scheduled delivery, which was a pleasant surprise. When I unpacked it, I was glad to see that the vacuum looked perfectly new.

I have been using it for about a month now, and so far I have only good things to say about it. It does have great suction and I love how far the hose reaches. The only thing that I have against it is the fact that the suction can be almost too powerful when using the hose or motorized head attachment. It can stick to the floor because the force of the suction. This is just a small thing really, not a major problem. Overall, the head is a great tool and it certainly beats sweeping with a broom. And this is the only vacuum I have ever owned that does an excellent job on bare floors in upright mode. I have inside dogs and a Himalayan cat, so I am a tough critic.

So, I give mine at least 4 and a half stars. It is very functional, easy to push, and it looks good too. I've had several friends remark on how "cool" my vacuum is!

This review is from: Factory-Reconditioned Dyson DC14 Low Reach Upright Vacuum (Kitchen)
I had been shopping for a Dyson vacuum for some time, but did not want to spend the $500++. I opted for the factory-reconditioned Dyson and love it. I still have a warranty and save a bundle on the cost. I am amazed at what I pick up everytime I vacuum.

I've had the low reach for 8 months; bought reconditioned from Amazon. I have a golden retriever, a lab,a cat and the Dyson works wonders to pick up animal fur. My rugs look cleaner and smell better. It works great on rugs and hardwoods. I consider this a big investment, but I was spending more than a hundred for other vacuums and they were lasing about a year. I feel confident this will be around a while.
