5.0 out of 5 stars Now THIS is a VACUUM!!
I've been vacillating for a while about one of these machines because, let's face it - they're EXPENSIVE. When I saw the reconditioned one here from Amazon I took a chance because I know Amazon's return policy is excellent.

WELL! It's definitely money well-spent!

I have several different flooring types - area rugs, vinyl flooring, hardwood,...

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing... NO on-board tools, frayed cord, no manual...FIXED
I am not disappointed in the product... I am hugely disappointed in this "refurbished" unit. NO on-board tools where supplied, no manual, and now I see the power cord is frayed near where is attaches to the unit. I have emailed Dyson twice with no response... I will be calling them on Monday.

If I had to do it over again, I would have just bought a new...

I've been vacillating for a while about one of these machines because, let's face it - they're EXPENSIVE. When I saw the reconditioned one here from Amazon I took a chance because I know Amazon's return policy is excellent.

WELL! It's definitely money well-spent!

I have several different flooring types - area rugs, vinyl flooring, hardwood, and a particularly miserable burgundy plush. This vacuum handled them all with ease, made that plush look like brand new! I was amazed, well almost EMBARRASSED, when I saw how much dirt and cat hair this thing pulled out of my rugs.

It maneuvers fairly easily, emptying it is child's play - I agree the wand is somewhat awkward until you get the hang of it, and the handle is a bit uncomfortable to MY hand to use for any length of time, but overall I still rate it a 5 out of 5 stars. I am planning to purchase the low-reach tool and the soft dusting too!

I decided to purchase a vacuum recently because I moved to a new apartment. I've heard alot of good things about Dyson vacuums.. and at the price listed, I was hoping they were all true. The vacuum met all my expectations and then some - As I am an Amazon Prime customer, I didn't have to pay for 2 day shipping - the great thing is, it only took 1 business day to arrive. The vacuum comes fully assembled in new condition right out of the box.. you can literally take it right out, plug it in, and start cleaning. I gave it a test run to make sure everything ran smooth.. I had a feeling that it would be extremely loud, but it's surprisingly quiet for how powerful it is. After about a minute of vacuuming, the dust bin was already 25% full. If you want to know how dirty you really are, get this vacuum! It works wonders!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for the bachelor. . ., May 18, 2008

I purchased this model refurbished from Amazon a while back. I live in an 1100 sq. ft. apartment with a dog. I've gone through a few vacuums in the past, mostly bagless units in the $100-$200 range. My last vacuum didn't survive the move, so I had been in the market for a new one for a while.

I hate housework. I'm a bachelor and want to do this sort of thing once and do it well. So I figured get a Dyson and be done with it. I'm glad I did. As another reviewer said, this thing is not magical, it's just a vacuum, but it's a darn good one and easily outperforms any other vacuum I've used, bearing in mind my level of experience.

Pros: Strong suction, covers all floor types, highly maneuverable, easy to empty, solid construction (though mostly plastic), large bin means you can do a lot of vacuuming, long cord means I can plug into one outlet and cover the whole apartment (all 1100 sq. ft. of it) without unplugging, no bag, industrial design styling

Cons: Heavy (around 25lbs or so), difficult to make it steer due to weight of upper body, difficult to assemble, large size makes storage difficult, styling may not be to everone's taste

This is a great vacuum for a guy or most women who can handle what amounts to a slightly top-heavy vacuum. It's easy to maneuver, but requires a moderate amount of wrist strength (vastly more than, say, turning a door knob). For those who are looking for something small, light, and easy to handle, this is not the vacuum for you. Dyson makes smaller, lighter, more compact vacuums, but this is the only refurb model here at Amazon currently (or that I've ever seen).

This is a great vacuum, and I'm very impressed with Dyson's design. However, I'm going to have to get a smaller/lighter/easier to handle one for my 65y/o mother as this is too much of a beast for her to handle and store.

4.0 out of 5 stars An impressive vacuum, but it's just a vacuum!, June 11, 2008

This review is from: Factory-Reconditioned Dyson DC15 The Ball All Floors Vacuum (Kitchen)
After researching a TON of different vacuums, we decided to give the Dyson DC15 a try, mostly because of the positive reviews and the "All Floors" and "Ball" features. Being the thrifty yankees that we are, we went the factory-reconditioned route, because paying $600 for a vacuum is - quite frankly - absurd (or so we feel). Dyson's factory-reconditioned vacuums have a very solid reputation, too.

Amazon's Super Saver shipping was once again amazing, delivering this vacuum WAY ahead of the scheduled date. The box arrived in mint condition, and after giving it a once-over, it was clear that the vacuum was also in perfect condition.

Beyond the fact that it just looks cool, this vacuum seems to be very well constructed and intuitively designed. It comes with 3 on-board simple/basic attachments that you can use with the very well designed hose and wand (which extends much further than any other upright vacuum that we've ever used). We also purchased the mini turbo tool online for about $35 (eBay), which we would definitely recommend if you have pets.

Suction-wise, the vacuum has a lot of power (it does suck!), but it's nothing earth-shattering like some of these reviews will have you believe. The first run through our house, it pulled up a LOT of cat hair, but the carpets did not appear on the surface to be any cleaner than they were before (again, like some of these reviews would have you believe).

Emptying the container is an absolute breeze, as is pretty much the case with all aspects of using this vacuum. We thought that the ball might make it a little more maneuverable - almost to a fault - but it's not a hugely noticeable difference from most other vacuums that we've used.

Where this vacuum really shines is in its "All Floors" design, which works exactly like an all floors vacuum should. With the simple push of one conveniently-placed button, the beater bar turns off and you've instantly switched from carpet mode to bare-floor mode (which works very well). This is one of the main reasons that we purchased this vacuum, and we are VERY pleased with the results.

One of the main complaints that we read about is the considerable weight. As far as we're concerned, this is not an issue, as it weighs less than the Dirt Devil that it replaced. It's actually smaller than we thought it would be, and while it is loud (it's a vacuum!), it is significantly quieter than most other vacuums that we've used.

All in all, we've used Rainbow, Kirby, Dirt Devil, Hoover, Electrolux, Oreck, and central vacuums, and this one is right up there with the best of the best. Hopefully, it will last us long enough to warrant paying more than we otherwise would have for a more run-of-the-mill vacuum. As long as you don't get too wrapped up the Dyson hype, you won't be disappointed. It works very well, but it's nothing earth shattering.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Satisfied, December 31, 2007

This review is from: Factory-Reconditioned Dyson DC15 The Ball All Floors Vacuum (Kitchen)
While a certain consumer products magazine does not think as highly of this vacuum as some other choices, I am having a difficult time agreeing with them. The suction is amazing, it does a superior job on my hardwood floors, and pet hair absolutely vanishes.

Reading the instruction manual is a must, since its mechanics are quite different from other vacuums. You find yourself emptying the cannister a couple times during each cleaning session. At first that was aggravating, but I quickly accepted it, particularly because the emptying process is pretty simple.

Things to think about:

It's physically designed in a novel manner, so you have to give yourself some time to learn how to maneuver it most efficiently. This can be accomplished in a couple runs of the vacuum.

It's also heavier than some other models, so, again, you need to make some adjustments in how you work with it.

You have to empty that cannister immediately when the collected debris reaches the fill line. Figure that into your plans. Take a trash bag with you, if you have two stories, and don't want to run back downstairs to empty it.

The retractable extension hose is such an improvement over other uprights I have had. Fabulous! It could be a little longer, but I can reach about 4/5 up my stairs with it.

5.0 out of 5 stars It definitely sucks!, March 12, 2007

This is an amazing machine. I am a designer and I love well-designed equipment, but it's rare, especially these days. I read all the reviews of this produce I could find, many of which downed this vacuum cleaner for one reason or another; I now know this to be jealousy. I bought it anyway. Reconditioned. The naysayers are, simply, wrong. The thing is a joy to use. The "ball" makes it turn on a dime with very little effort, just rotate your wrist - nothing like the back-and-forth it takes to change direction on other vacuums. Try this: vacuum with ANYTHING first; the "The Ball" will suck out more, afterward - usually quite a bit more. My only problem is that all my friends want to borrow it constantly. I LOVE this thing (and I'm a guy)! "The Ball" is worth every dollar. Actually, since the HEPA filter is washable, and it doesn't use filters, the overall cost-to-use is lower than even many much cheaper machines - also many less expensive machines...Buy one of these and you'll actually enjoy vacuuming. Plus, you'll discover many new friends, once the word gets out that you have one.

This vacuum almost makes vacuuming a pleasure. In fact the kids love to use it! The ball makes it effortless to get into any nook and cranny. Emptying the dirt is also so easy my 4 year old can do it. And without any dust or dirt escaping back into the house. It's great! Pretty light weight for a vacuum as well. I highly recommed it.

I wanted to update. Original review written in March. It's now July and the family is still in love with this vacuum!

i bought a factory-reconditioned one and it works great so far. i moved into my new apartment, with carpet - and since i have allergies, i was wary and made sure i bought and invested in a really good vacuum cleaner - the dyson does everything i want it to do.

it's quiet (relatively), the bristle works great for carpet, the ball movement is nice and makes vacuuming much easier and most of all, it really cleans well. it's super powerful.

highly recommended.

Purchased the Factory-Reconditioned Dyson DC15 All Floors Vacuum. Love this machine. It was $150 less then in the retail stores I went to and it came looking and working brand new. The whole house feels cleaner now that I'm using my Dyson.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than a Kirby!, July 10, 2008

This review is from: Factory-Reconditioned Dyson DC15 The Ball All Floors Vacuum (Kitchen)
Have been intrigued by Dyson vacs ever since they came out but seriously, who needs 4 vacuums? Love my 25 year old Eureka cansiter vac as well as the overpriced Kirby upright. However, as I move around a lot, thought I'd leave the heavy Kirby in storage to save on shipping and opted to try out the hi-tech animal edition Roomba robot vac. Such a cool idea but with 2 dogs and a cat the tiny robot just couldn't keep up and it got to where I would have to clean the filter once or twice in the middle of its 45 minute cycle, what a pain! When I saw the reconditioned Dyson on Amazon, I was sold and hands down, it's by far my favorite vacuum of all time. Fantastic cleaning and so satisfying to be able to see all the crud and hair it picks up every time. The ball feature is fun and love how the vacuum easily transitions from area rugs to hard floors to carpet--very smooth, without having to pick up the vacuum to get it over the rug edges. And with such efficient suction, it's a minor miracle that smaller rugs don't get sucked up into the roller like all of my previous uprights. As far as the reconditioning portion, the vacuum looks brand new. Hope this is helpful and you like the vacuum as much as I do! Maybe I can sell my others on ebay or amazon and wish I knew then what I know now--don't waste your money on anything else!
