Amazon.com Review

Designed by engineering guru James Dyson, inventor of the cyclonic vacuum, the 12-amp Dyson DC07 upright is an inspired combination of power and structural smarts. At the center of the machine's innovation is the Cyclone air path design, an eight-section chamber that creates powerful, consistent suction. The conical chambers generate 100,000 g of centrifugal force, pushing dust and dirt out of the airflow into the vacuum's 1-gallon collection cup. With no bag to clog, the vacuum's 270 air watts of suction remain steady. The large, transparent collection cup is easy to check and empties tidily--pop it off, hold it over a trash bin, and pull the trigger to release dirt without having to touch it. The DC07 also comes equipped with a multipart filtration system to improve overall air quality in the home. The HEPA filter, measuring 412 square inches in surface area, traps microscopic particulates and allergens. Expertly built, the filter is designed to last the lifetime of the machine.

Suitable for bare floors and carpets, the Dyson upright features a 14-inch cleaning path and edge-cleaning bristles. A simple foot pedal switches off the brush roll for bare floors, and the nozzle automatically adjusts for changes in carpet height. The vacuum is equipped for above-floor cleaning with a cleverly stowed, quick-release 17-foot hose with a reversible, extension-wand handle. Onboard accessories include a crevice tool, a dusting brush, and an upholstery attachment, all designed to function without "sticking" to surfaces. Made from the same material used in crash helmets, the vacuum is unquestionably durable. Plus, the design only puts 4 pounds of weight on the handle, so pushing and turning is easy. This model comes with a 35-foot power cord.--Emily Bedard

Editor's note: This is a reconditioned vacuum. Reconditioned generally means that the vacuum has been returned to the manufacturer, who brings the vacuum back to like-new condition. Some appliances may contain cosmetic blemishes. Manufacturer offers a 6-month warranty on this reconditioned product.

5.0 out of 5 stars GROSS!, April 2, 2005
This review is from: Factory-Reconditioned Dyson DC07 Upright Vacuum, Steel/Yellow (Kitchen)
I received my reconditioned dyson on Thursday. It looks brand new. Not a scratch to be seen and clean as a whistle. It took 10 minutes to put together and that is only because I looked at the book for 5 minutes first. I had vacuumed the day before with my 8 year old Oreck so I didn't expect much. My carpet looked clean after all. Here comes the reason I named my review GROSS. The dust and pet hair that I picked up in the first room alone was incredible and GROSS. I vacuumed the whole house that day and couldn't believe how much weight in dust and hair I took out of my "clean" carpets. Now it is Saturday and I decided to vacuum again. Still didn't look dirty but hey....I am an obsessive cleaner. GROSS again. I took up even more dust and hair. I plan on vacuuming for the next three days in a row. I think it will take that many times to get all the dirt that is buried deep in my carpets from the last 14 years. Would I recommend the reconditioned dyson. Duhhh! In a heart beat!!! Why spend $178 more, counting tax. I love seeing the dirt and dust I am picking up with this mean machine. It is an obsessive cleaners dream. The only down side to this vacuum is the design of the attachment hose. It is a little awkward to put together. But I can live with it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Go for Brand New and avoid turmoil, May 7, 2004

So like everyone else who is here checking out the Factory Reconditioned Dyson, you want to save money since we all know how much these wonderful babies cost. Yes, they are wonderful. Before I bought mine, I tested out my friend's and they are awesome. Extremely powerful and picked up things I never knew existed. So when I saw this deal, I went for it.

DON'T DO IT!

So I got my Dyson and the (1) first thing I find out like everyone else, it only has 6 months of warranty. Okay, I can deal. Then (2) the suction pole is dented so badly that it would not fit into the vacuum tube. Now, don't cringe. The people at Dyson are awesome. They said "Sorry" and got me a new one in 5 days. So no complaints on customer service, only raves! Then I got the new handle, and hit another bump. (3) The front foot of the vacuum would not stay on the ground so it kept pointing up. I had to constantly push it down with my foot. I called up Dyson, and again they are awesome, said to me to send it in. I didn't have to pay for shipping or package it. All I had to do was take it to a UPS Store and they'll take care of the rest.

Conclusion: Buy it at your own risk. I've purchased refurbished products before and things usually are good. But this was not. If you don't mind some waiting in turn for some saved money, go for it. I give Dyson's customer service 5 stars but the product 2 stars. Overall 3.

3.0 out of 5 stars They say call it Refurbed, I call it clean up "used", September 16, 2004
This review is from: Factory-Reconditioned Dyson DC07 Upright Vacuum, Steel/Yellow (Kitchen)
Dysons are great. Amazon is great. Dyson refurbs are used machines hiding in new boxes. I had two units which I returned. The first had hairline cracks in the plastic (not damaged in shipping)this made me nervous enough to question the structural integrity of the unit. The second had a screw fall out of the top of the yellow removable canister. When I investigated this, I determined that the screw socket was broken off inside the top housing. Since the broken piece was not there, I can only assume they packed it up knowing it was bad. The second one also had very bad gouges in the wheels as well as decals that were all scratched and faded. The only way this could happen is with previous heavy use.

I use to be in the electronics business. When we sold refurb units, manufactures meticulously made the unit look very close to new. I expected the same from Dyson. I did not get that. What I got was a used unit, cleaned up and repacked in new packaging. I'll still consider buying a new Dyson because the vacuum itself appears to be a fine machine. But to take units and pieces of units that are questionable, clean them up as new and then sell it as a refurb is not good business. I hope you are listening Mr. Dyson.
