Great little chain saw,
This review is from: Factory-Reconditioned Homelite ZR43100 9.0 Amp 14-in Electric Chain Saw
For the money, either reconditioned or new, this is a great little chain saw.
I've used a ton of expensive (Husky or Stihl) chain saws. The Homelite is clearly no match. However, if you need help with small jobs around the house, its silly to spend more than this costs. Pros: For the money, well designed and simple to use. Saws amazingly well. You have to take it slow and let the saw do the cutting. But it will make its way through 4" limbs quite well. For first time users, the user manual is a good primer on chain saw safety. Its a well executed design. For once its nice to find an opening price point product that does not scream of some purchasing agent going to a bazar in the Far East and ordering a boatload of junk with his company's name stuck on it. Cons: You need at least a quart of bar oil. It uses more oil than it needs to. No big deal, just don't saw over the dining room table and keep an eye on the reservoir. If you muscle it through a limb, the chain has the potential of popping out. Did it once when I first got it. Just take it easy and let the saw do the cutting.

My husband and I purchased this in order to save money [rather than buying a brand new product]. It arrived promptly, and though one could tell it was reconditioned [all of the oil had not been wiped off], it was in almost new condition. We have since used it several times and the electric chain saw works really well.
We use it for trimming the shrubs around our yard, and also for trimming back smaller trees like the crepe myrtles in our yard. Basically it works great for trimming medium to large trees and for cutting smaller trees.I do not advise using it for cutting larger trees [perhaps the 16" chainsaw would be more appropriate for heavy duty use]. This product does not come with bar oil [for lubricating the chain].

Bought this item to do light cutting in the backyard. It's electric so no worries about starting those pesky 2 cycle engines. The saw cut well on trees up to about 6 or 7 inches across but I wish it had just a little more power. The chain jumped the bar once but I think that it was because I was a little timid about over tightening it on the bar so after a couple turns on the tensioner everything was fine. Please note this saw is for light use not for major forestry work. I have had no incidents of kickback and I'm quite happy with my purchase. I have found that the chips and dust tend to follow the chain and accumulate in the tensioner housing (I guess because of the oil) so I would recommend a good cleaning after each use.

Very good value. Saw appears to be as good as new, chain is sharp, cuts through 4" limbs like butter. For $30, you can't beat it.

This was a joke. I was given a worn out and stretched chain. I should have known better than to buy a refurbished chain saw. I will not make that mistake again. You would think they would try a product before re-selling it.

I needed something quick and cheap to do strawbale work with. Also needed to be fairly light and easy to maneuver. The intent was to use this solely for notching strawbale for post & beam infill, maybe some light firewood cutting.
It arrived in a timely manner and was obviously reconditioned (there was still some oil and saw dust on it) but was as expected. Then the railroad ties for our foundation work showed up and didn't exactly fit in a couple places (these are 6x8 OAK main line ties saturated in creosote and oil). Prior experience taught us that cutting these things by hand is a slow, painful process and our other available reciprocating saws and blades weren't really up to the challenge. Heck, I only paid $30 for this, let's try it out. (Bearing in mind, this was WAY beyond anything the manufacturer recommended using it for). And, holy cow! It really did a great job cutting these huge chunks of oak! Obviously, we were careful not to push it too fast or put a lot of weight on it, so it didn't cut these things in a big hurry, but the blade lasted easily through about 5 or 6 cuts and, if it hadn't been for that tiny piece of gravel (which it actually cleaved very cleanly), we'd probably have been able to keep going. Luckily, that was the last cut... The blade will have to be replaced before we do any more wood cutting with it, but even in it's current blunted state, it's doing an excellent job doing our strawbale work. The only reason it didn't get 5 stars is due to it's heavy use of bar oil. I can see where it was usefully oiled for that big oak but even cutting straw, it tends to use a lot of oil. Not an issue with the saw, per se, but in our application, the housing needs frequent clearing since the straw/oil combination clogs it up pretty quickly. Bottom line, buy this, you won't be disappointed!

Out of the box this chainsaw would not even cut the smallest of branches. I give up on the first try and returned it.
