Price and Simplicity, April 16, 2005
This review is from: Factory-Reconditioned Ronco Inventions 3000TBFS Showtime Indoor Compact Rotisserie and BBQ, Black (Kitchen)
(Update 5/27): Since Amazon keeps lowering the price (now less than a reconditioned toaster oven), I find myself ordering another each Friday. The price is so low and the unit seems to be hanging in there. Way to go, Ronco and Amazon!
(Update 5/22): Probably another 'duh', but irregularly shapped foods (such as a 4-lb. chicken) are going to cook irregularly as well. Not too many cooks are going to find that perfectly round rump roast (or whatever). I did use the basket for some swordfish steaks. They did really well. Again, however, in order to keep from sliding around in the basket, all must be the same thickness. I also noted that the lemon slices fell out of the basket as they lost their moisture during the cooking precess.
(Update 4/29) This time, I attempted a 4 lb. leg of lamb and it came out too well done! I have discovered the key to all of this is how close the item being cooked is to the heating element....duh! It still smoked (Lamb is a fatty meat.). Another suggestion: Make sure the spices you are using can stand to be seared. Curry is definitely NOT among them!
(4/16)Received this beauty yesterday and decided to try a small leg of lamb this morning.
Pros:
Wonderfully juicy meat.
Can't beat the $39.95 free shipping price. (5/22: Well, I guess you can since Amazon has reduced the price by $5. I have ordered 3 more since this initial review. Great gift!!!)
Easy to use.
Mine was a reconditioned model. It came out of the box looking brand new.
Cons:
Perhaps the other reviewers did not cook anything fatty, but cleanup is most assuredly not 'a breeze'.
Grease spattered and smoked a bit. I had to air out the room briefly.
Although the footprint is small, RONCO demands an 8" clearance at the top, back and sides when cooking. 4" is adequate but the extra space can be quite problematical.
You will need to experiment with the cooking times. It would be nice if the instruction book was more complete or at least listed the standard oven temp for this unit. (Example: Lamb was listed at 18 min./lb. My 2 lb. cut was in for 45 min. and still came out a little rarer than I like.)

Reconditioned is not great. But the product is good stuff, August 1, 2005

This is the re conditioned product. I know it might be used and hoped any problem is fixed when I received it. But it is not. it was extensively used and you can see the wear and tear. When I start using it makes lot of noise. I tried lubricant "oil". doesn't help. I exchange it, still the same problem. But for the price it is okay. I would recommend this product if you are planning to purchase it as new. Hope this helps for the other purchaser.

Excellent, June 15, 2005

I ordered the Ronco, not really knowing what to expect. I tried it this weekend...and got amazing results. I made a small chicken on Sunday...and everyone was impressed. At first the idea of a reconditioned equipment made me hestitate, however it worked perfectly. The only thing you need to do, is cover the tray with foil so you have less mess to clean afterwards, because all the fat will drip and cover the bottom. Again, I highly recommend buying the Ronco.
