Not a toy, a serious grinder,
This review is from: Factory-Reconditioned KitchenAid Pro Line Burr Coffee Grinder, Pearl Metallic (Kitchen)
I've used what I now realize are toy coffee grinders for years. These "blade" grinders typically use a twin blade and centrifugal force to grind the beans. The longer it spins, the finer the grain. They open from the top, then you lift the entire thing over into a jar. It's messy, the grain is almost unpredictable (You can tell by the sound, kind of), static makes the grain stick to the plastic, and the things break after a couple of years. I've had many and I always have just gone out and bought another one. I wish I'd been willing to spend the extra dollars for one of these earlier. I'm quite sure I will pass it on to my grandkids. It's built like a tank, relatively quiet, and allows fine control over the grind. The "grinders" themselves are huge and made of heavy metal. The hopper and the receptacle are made from glass, and there's a two-year complete replacement guarantee. Go for it and get a good one this time, and likely for the last time. You won't be disappointed.

Love This Grinder,

We love this professional coffee grinder we received as a Christmas gift last year. It is relatively quiet, clean to use and easy to clean up, and grinds coffee to any size and amount you like very quickly. It does take up more room on the counter than the lower cost models, but if you want professional results, this is the one. Highly recommend.

Powerful, good grind, but with some design flaws,

This review is from: Factory-Reconditioned KitchenAid Pro Line Burr Coffee Grinder, Pearl Metallic (Kitchen)
A friend who owns one of these grinders highly recommended it to me. I took the deal on the reconditioned version, saving about $200, all at the cost of a shortened warranty. I have had great success with Kitchen Aid products in the past, so I don't anticipate any problems. The grinder itself is solidly built, and it grinds with plenty of power. The sound of the motor alone instills confidence that this piece of equipment will last a long time. The grind is certainly acceptable. I usually make either French press coffee or espresso, and the two ends of the spectrum are fine for my needs. The one complaint I have (which is echoed by others) is that the hopper design is less than perfect. Beans get caught in several different crevices and flat spots on their way to the burrs. This is remedied by a slap on side of the machine, or employing a skewer or chopstick to coax the beans down to where they need to go. The top lid does not fit tightly, but I usually weigh out my beans each time as opposed to keeping beans in the hopper-and the lack of a timer necessitates you measure the amount of beans you want each time you grind anyway. The glass catcher seems a little fragile, and its shape is not great for scooping out of, but these aren't major complaints. All in all, it's a fine grinder, it's well built and seems like it will last some time, and the few design flaws don't detract much from the overall quality.

Great Coffee Grinder,
By
This review is from: Factory-Reconditioned KitchenAid Pro Line Burr Coffee Grinder, Pearl Metallic (Kitchen)
This grinder is built like a tank--it weighs over 10 pounds. It is easy to disassemble and clean. Although the grinder was reconditioned it looked exactly like a new one.Their is no comparision between this machine and less expensive burr or blade grinders. The unit is easy to disassemble and clean. The manual is well written and easy to understand.Compared to less expensive machines this unit is much quieter and the grind is much more uniform. While the glass used to collect the grinds appears to be easy to break it has not been a problem. Some critics have complained that their are not enough settings and it is hard to set the dial between the notches to control the grind size more precisely . However I haven't found I need that level of precision. My major complaint is that up to a scoop of coffee grinds can be left in the machine. When the glass coffee bin is removed some grinds come out. My solution is to push the coffee bin up several times against the flat plate that holds the coffee bin while the machine is running. When I remove the coffee bin I put a paper filter where the coffee bin was. Then I turn on the machine again and push up the plate several times that held the coffee bin to get the remaining grinds. If you can afford it this grinder is well worth the money.

I guess I got lucky and got a red one from Amazon; quick shipping as usual. Thanks Amazon. The grinder is great, although reconditioned one would never know it. Quiet, low static, lots of power, good range of adjustment, whats not to like? Especially the red; the only red thing in my kitchen. I get kibbitzed from my wife, but wouldn't trade it for any other.

Very happy with this purchase. Grinds consistently. Glass container definitely keeps the static down compared with plastic in other units. Would buy again.

Kudos to Kitchenaid for making a nice, solid, well-designed burr grinder. The metallic finish on it is gorgeous, the controls simple and intuitive, and the price -- for this reconditioned unit -- can't be beat. If you have a small kitchen, this unit is pretty big to leave on the counter full-time: it is a tank! But a beautiful tank. People will compliment you on your beautiful shiny tank of a grinder. And you will have perfectly-ground coffee. I would recommend this product.

Easy to use, makes a great cup of coffee. Owning one of these makes a trip to Starbucks unnecessary.

I did a lot of reading before I bought this grinder. This is a quality grinder top to bottom. I read about the glass container the that catches the grinds, and users said it was thin and seemed like it was easily breakable. It isn't any thiner than any glass coffee pot. I wouldn't let this deter my buying this grinder. Not too noisy, none of the dust I've read about with other plastic models. I would definitely buy again. P.S. this was a refurbished unit, and in brand new condition.

The only way you would know that this item was rebuilt is because they tell you so. My wife uses it every day, she told me she wished she had gotten it years ago. It runs quiet, ginds fast, and grinds any texture of coffee you wish. It is easy to clean, adjust if needed, (comes with a well written booklet on adusting, maintaining, and cleaning. This appliance is built for years of use.
