3.0 out of 5 stars Hey, the price was right.
I had been wanting (for no good reason) a KitchenAid stand mixer for years. The refurb price + sale price + free shipping + no sales tax saved me hundreds off a new machine. I just saw the exact mixer at a discount reatailer for over twice the amount I paid. It's worth noting that this is a comparatively low powered machine with a smallish bowl, so I'm not going to try...

It comes in a plain white box labeled "Refurbished," but once you open the box and take out the mixer you can't tell it from a brand new mixer that cost a lot more! No scratches ware marks, or blemishes, it looks brand new! I have been putting my new mixer though a gambit of mixing chores and it works wonderfully. At this price I would recommend getting some attachments and extras it makes the mixer a much more versatile machine.

4.0 out of 5 stars Kitchen Aid Mixer, November 24, 2001

This product is a really great buy. I shopped around and found that this was the lowest price. The product came just as pictured. The bowl was a little scratched since it is refurbished but overall the condition was extremely good. The mixer works wonderfully and so far I am very happy with it. It is a great product there is none other on the market that could compare to it. It makes baking at home much easier and less time consuming. I would reccomend this to anyone who hassles with an ordinary hand mixer to spend the money on this item because it is totally worth it.

The mixer looks bran-spankin' new, not a scratch, dent or weird noise to indicate that it's been refurbished. The only concern I can see is the 6-month warranty (versus Kitchenaid's full year warranty on a new mixer). On the other hand, a refurbished mixer *might* even be in better shape than a new one given that it's just been worked on, and presumably has been extensively tested. In any case, I think it's worth the potential risk.

I've always liked and have had good results with KitchenAid's products, and their warranty policy is great. (Admittedly I've never needed to return a product under warranty, but that's a good thing!)

One thing that impressed me right away was how solid the tilt lock is. When it's locked, there's no vertical play in the mixer--it's solidly held down, as if it were one unit. Yet the lock is very easy to operate, there's no snap or tricky mechanism needed to open and close the lock. A minor thing, but it's well-designed.

It's a "10-speed" mixer, but in reality the speed is continuously variable from a nice slow stir to ultra-whip. There are indents for the speed lever, but if you want the speed can be set anywhere in-between. Not a big deal (I kinda doubt if "7.25" is really more important than just "7"), but again it shows some nice design work--and I know I get annoyed with things like "4 is a bit too fast, and 3 is way too slow".

The mixer is solid, heavy, won't be moving anywhere under its own power, and does a great job. This one should last for a long, long time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great mixer, mediocre deal, November 13, 2001

I ordered a refurb unit which arrived with a different, handleless mixing bowl. KitchenAid Customer Service told me that you get whatever's in the box but offered to swap out the bowl. Worth noting is that judging from the marks on the electrical plug, this unit definitely was used, not a new remarked item.

Meanwhile, Linens 'n' Things advertised the same mixer brand new with a full 12-month warranty (the refurb warranty is 6 months) for ($) -- but there was a 20% discount coupon (applicable only in their retail stores) plus a free Good Houskeeping cookbook with a retail price of ($) with any purchase of at least ($).

In short, the brand new unit with the coupon, at ($), costs less and comes with a great cookbook valued at ($). The refurb unit costs more, comes with a 50% shorter warranty, there's no cookbook or other bonus, and you don't know exactly what will be in the box.

Needless to say, I returned the refurb unit and did the deal at Linens 'n' Things.

Without any coupons, the street price for this mixer brand new at most retail stores including Sears is ($). So you might want to shop around before buying the refurb product. The refurb unit at ($)is no bargain.

The mixer itself seems solid as a rock and hopefully will work fine. It is a great size for us since it fits on the countertop and clears the wall cabinets with no problem.

5.0 out of 5 stars Even when something goes wrong, its still OK., January 4, 2005
I purchased this mixer in October of last year. Around Thanksgiving, I decided to give it a test drive. It was AMAZING. Quite frankly, it sped up prep time for many of my dishes by a factor of 3 or 4. There are countless other reviews which are substantively paeans to the KitchenAid stand mixers, go read them if you don't already know about the wonders of this product line.

The reason I'm writing MY review is to cover what happens when that most dreaded event occurs... something goes wrong.

After about a week of use (maybe 30-45 minutes of total "mixing time") I started hearing a very disturbing noise. It was sort of a squeaky grinding. It happened at a regular interval, maybe about every 2/3 seconds (basically at one point in each planetary rotation of the mixing head). I thought at first that perhaps I was scraping the bottom of the bowl, that I had somehow unbalanced something... but the sound occurred even with no attachment.

I promptly called KitchenAid and described the problem. The customer service representative asked me to hold the phone up to the mixer and turn it on. She listened and then informed me that she would be sending me a new mixer. Apparently (forgive my layman's explanation) some screw had come loose and was slowly being ground down by the rest of the motor assembly. As a former motor assembler, she was aware that this sort of problem happens (very infrequently, but hey, you sell thousands and thousands of mixers, and SOME will go bad).

She took my information (the mixer was still under its 90-day warranty) and told me she would be shipping out a replacement mixer (another refurbished one) ASAP. A little over a week later it showed up (this one was white on white instead of metal on white, but that's fine by me) and it works perfectly. I boxed up the old mixer in the new box, attached the supplied UPS label and did NOTHING. Yup, that's right, nothing... because UPS was already on its way to pick it up. All I had to do was open the door a few days later and the UPS guy even came in to carry it to his truck.

KitchenAid was able to diagnose my problem over the phone in minutes (very short hold time, too) and sent me a replacement model immediately, without insisting I send the other one back first, without charging me shipping. The whole experience cost me nothing. Toll free phone call and no shipping, not even a stamp. KitchenAid has, in me, a customer for life.

So, rest assured fellow Amazonians, even though this is a refurbished product it DOES have an AMAZING warranty (albeit 90-days, but hey, if they didn't fix it right during refurbishment, its gonna break within those 90 days). At the price I paid (under 100 dollars thanks to a very nice deal around October) its the best kitchen purchase I've ever made.

5.0 out of 5 stars I Love This Mixer!, October 27, 2001

This review is from: Factory-Reconditioned KitchenAid RRK90WW 300-Watt Ultra Power Stand Mixer, White on White (Kitchen)
I bought this mixer because of the savings in price. I had wanted one for years but would never pay the price at the department stores.

I replaced a perfectly "good" mixer of another brand. What A Differecnce! I couldn't believe it.
As far as the "reconditioned" part goes, I could find no sign that it was not new.
Don't plan on putting this one away. It's like a Sherman tank, but that's what gives it the stability to do the job. I keep mine out on the counter so I can admire it at all times.
Thanks for the great bargain on a wonderful machine!

I just bought and received one of these last week and it absolutely looks brand new!! Amazon has the best deal I have found on this mixer (I shopped in the malls and on the internet for about two weeks until I purchased this one) and I was unable to tell that this has been reconditioned. If you're in the market for a mixer, do yourself a favor and buy this one now before they run out - I seriously doubt you'll find a better price and, as far as my wife and I can tell, you will not be able to notice that this is not new. I am very picky and am 100% satisfied with this product!! Thanks Amazon!!!

I shopped around for 6 months for this mixer and never found a better deal. This mixer is a godsend. The "60 Minute Rolls" in the recipe book is one I've been making for years by hand. From start to first rise, took less than 8 minutes. I love my mixer and I loved the price of it just as much. You could not tell it was reconditioned. It looked brand new. Thank you Amazon!

The Kitchen Aid stand mixer is one of the best investments I have ever made and it will be for you also. It is not wimpy machine, this thing tackles everything with a vengence! Its quite, very user friendly, and very forgiving on mistakes! If there is one thing every kitchen must have, its this. Trust me you won't be sorry! There is even one in the Smithsonian Inst., now thats saying something! The durability and powerfullness of this mixer is second to none, its wonderful!

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Deal!! Thanks Amazon., October 29, 2004

Just want to ssay that this was a purchase not regreting. Although this mixer is Reconditioned, it was surprisingly clean and looking like any new one. It runs perfect after putting against through some tests. I know you are taking a chance as some folks mentioned earlier about getting a lemon but for the most part, I belive that most of those sold are in perfect conditon.

Wait till the price drops below the listed price ($149) and with the additional $20 off then to top it off, free shipping. The price was too good to pass up. Have been watching this item for months and wasn't sure if it was worth the price. Watching for one-day Friday specials it would drop in price. That was when we took the step forward and no way could we have gotten a better deal anywhere else. That includes Ebay or other online vendors. Shipping 27lb's to Hawaii would run normally $35-$45 more. Locally, Macy's have this model, just above $200 so no comparison there. Final shipped price barely above $100.

This mixer is quality and built like tank. It comes without the pouring shield which is not a big issue but it does have all the mixing blades and a manual. This mixing bowl had no signs of use. Fortunately with Xmas around the corner, it will see high usage for all the batches of cookies to bake.

If price is not an issue, then go for the brand new. If you are looking at saving a bundle, Amazon has these awesome deals that you can't pass up. The other thing is, Amazon is highly reputable and is someone that will service you if you have to return a defected mixer.

One Satisfied Customer.
