Amazon.com Product Description

Professional chefs have long sung the praises of the KitchenAid stand mixer. Now, KitchenAid has designed a product specifically for the home baker with this five-speed handheld mixer. Very portable, the mixer allows you to roam the kitchen and mix at will. Its powerful yet lightweight motor maintains consistent beater speed even in heavy mixtures and won't bog down. The mixer comes with traditional beaters and also dough hooks for raised yeast dough--simply change attachments to mix heavy bread dough and delicate egg whites all with the same machine. Other highlights include a comfort-designed handle, a non-tip rest, and non-clogging air vents. The beaters and dough hooks clean up quickly in the dishwasher, and the mixer can be simply wiped clean thanks to its smooth design with no seams or grooves to trap ingredients. The handheld mixer measures 7-1/2 by 3-1/2 by 6-2/5 inches and carries a one-year hassle-free replacement warranty.

Editor's note: This is a remanufactured small appliance. Remanufactured generally means that the appliance has been returned to the manufacturer, who returns the appliance to like-new condition. Some appliances may contain cosmetic blemishes.

4.0 out of 5 stars Kitchenaid 72 Watt, 5-Speed Specialty Mixer, February 20, 2010
By
Kari (SF Bay Area, CA) - See all my reviews
This unit was not purchased at Amazon for reason I will explain.
72 Watts: yes this unit only has 72 Watts, and, because of that, it is the quietist, smallest and lightest unit I have come across. Even the $6 Rival 5-speed unit from W-Mart is noisier, larger and heavier than this unit, and, its slowest speed will splatter your walls (125 Watt motor). The HPM5A was designed to fit in the niche between hand stirring and folding, and, a Kitchenaid stand mixer which, in my case, is a Sunbeam Mixmaster. In regard to filling the niche, I would give the mixer 5-stars.
Speed Differences: the difference between the 3-Speed, 5-Speed and 7-Speed, as far as I can tell, is low range. The 7-Speed offers a true low range. The 5-Speed offers a low speed that will eliminate spattering in most situations. Remember, your hand is controlled by your brain, and, can do a far better job at stirring and folding than any low geared machine. In addition, the 3-Speed and 5-Speed have mechanical vs. digital controls. In my experience the speed of a mixer can be adjusted far faster with mechanical rather than digital controls. All the units share the same motor and body.
Whipping: as far as I can tell the high speed of the 3-speed, 5-speed, and 7-speed units are the same. The high speed is adequate for my usage - but I am a vegan and do not cook with dairy or eggs. Those of you that do may find these machines less adequate in whipping than a higher power machine (but then there is the noise, weight and size).
The accessories: the weakness of the unit (all speeds) is the quality of the accessories, and, for this reason I do not recommend an Amazon purchase. It is for this reason I gave the HPM5AP a 4-Star rating. I tried a number of units before I found a unit which had a Blending Rod with would rotate without wobble, and, wire Turbo Blades with acceptable wobble. I didn't care about the Dough Blades. In my opinion, because of the narrow footprint of many glasses, a Blending Rod with minimal wobble is a necessity. I hope Kitchenaid takes note of the accessory problem. China does not wear ear-plugs when it comes to commerce and money. As a comment, I do like the gauge of the wire Turbo Blades. The thinner the blade, the better at cutting and frothing. The thicker the blade, the heavier duty and the better for mixing dough.

3.0 out of 5 stars 5 speed ultra slow hand mixer WITHOUT dough hooks!!!!, August 11, 2009
By
Trinity (Savannah, GA) - See all my reviews
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The 5 speed mixer from Kitchenaid is pretty to look at but I am a bit disappointed by the lack of power. It seems like I am beating the cake batter in slow motion. Maybe I am just used to high speed power mixers. It definitely takes some getting used to. Other than that it looks like brand new and works okay.

!!!*** Also the seller writes that the mixer comes inlcuding liquid power rod and dough hooks which seems to NEVER be delivered as advertised. ***!!!

This is false advertisment and should take some consequences! I guess that's the way to go. Fool the paying customer and see who notices that half of the purchase is missing. I am angry that it didn't come with all the utensils because that forces me to write e-mails and letters back and forth. Grrrrrr

4.0 out of 5 stars Good buy but.........., February 1, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
.....if you were counting on getting the attachments think again. This mixer is a great buy but it does not come with the dough hook or blender attachments. I bought two and when I realized the attachments were missing, I contacted Amazon and they sent me a third mixer. The third mixer did not have the attachments either so I sent the third mixer back. I really wanted the mixer so I kept two and asked for a price reduction which I got.
