Product Description

Amazon.com Review

This KitchenAid professional model efficiently tackles heavy loads with its 350-watt motor and bowl-lift lever that effortlessly raises heavy ingredients up to the beater. KitchenAid stand mixers, constructed of durable die-cast metal, come in a variety of colors and styles that have become American classics. With a choice of ten speeds and three attachments--flat beater, spiral dough hook, and stainless-steel wire whip--the mixer handles everything from egg whites to meat loaf to pizza dough. Rather than rotating the bowl, KitchenAid stand mixers feature a fixed bowl with a unique mixing action: the beater spins clockwise as the shaft spins counter-clockwise, thus projecting the beater to 67 different points inside the 5-quart stainless-steel bowl. The bowl features a handle as well as two brackets that fit over support pins on the stand mixer. For safety, the mixer shuts down if an object obstructs the mixing process or if overloading occurs. The bowl, beater, and dough hook are dishwasher-safe. The mixer measures 16-1/2 by 12 by 14 inches. --Ann Bieri

Editor's note: This is a reconditioned small appliance. Reconditioned generally means that the appliance has been returned to the manufacturer, who brings the appliance back to like-new condition. Some appliances may contain cosmetic blemishes.

Product Description

This is a Factory Reconditioned item. The Professional 5 Series (KP50) has a powerful 350 watt motor that delivers enough power to handle the heaviest mixtures, and mix large batches easily. This bowl lift model has brackets on the bowl that fit over support pins on the stand mixer, which is than lifted up by a handle on the right side of the mixer to lock the bowl in place while mixing (designed for handling heavy mixtures and large recipes). The dish washer safe, 5-quart polished stainless steel bowl with ergonomic handle is big enough to handle large batches of heavy mixtures. Its ergonomically designed handle is contoured to fit the hand and makes lifting the bowl more comfortable.

4.0 out of 5 stars wonderful customer service !!, February 1, 2005
This review is from: Factory-Reconditioned KitchenAid RRKP50 Professional 5 Series 5-Quart Stand Mixer, Onyx Black (Kitchen)
5 stars for both Amazon and KitchenAid. 4 stars for the product. I bought the onyx pro 5 3 mos ago. Amazon sent me the wrong model and quickly sent out another one on top of the 20% discount for their mistake. OK, the 2nd one was still the wrong model but the 20% off will do. WHen I first used it, there was an electric smell which I was told would go away eventually by a KA costumer service rep. Three mos later, it still smelled. I called KA and they are sending out a pro 6 to replace my pro 5. What a great upgrade! Granted the original refurbish one had to be returned, but I'm not worried. This is my second KA mixer. The first lasted 10 years and still going. I just wanted to get a stronger, larger model to appease my love for bread making. A 10 for both Amazon and KitchenAid for customer service.

2.0 out of 5 stars A gamble, but decent service from KitchenAid, December 22, 2004
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
No doubt, these refurbished wonders -- when they work well -- are a steal of a deal. However, beware that there is widespread problem with this model, which is perhaps why there are so many available. A rep at a local restaurant supply store near me told me they have been instructed on how to handle this because it's very common with this model. Mine was refurbished incorrectly and I lost out on holiday baking this year because my replacement -- kindly upgraded by KitchenAid -- is so backordered it won't arrive until mid-january. Others seem to have scored with this purchase, so do indulge (I am awed by the perfomance when it performs). But, if it sounds even a little funny, don't waste time -- send it back. I decided to get one as a xmas present to myself in time for holiday baking. I ordered before the model changed, so got the 350-watt version, which is plenty powerful (I don't need to churn bread dough). It was clean as a whistle, but there was a little grinding noise in the mechanism that rotates the beater. A call to a KitchenAid tech concluded that it probably just needed to "get the oil moving in the gears," so I opted to stick it out through the holidays and see what happened. Big mistake. It sputtered out during creaming a batch of sugar cookies. Kitchen Aid is sending me a brand spanking new, and upgraded, model, but no nibbles for Santa and the reindeer this year.

5.0 out of 5 stars my second Kitchenaid Mixer, December 31, 2004
I have owned a previous Kitchenaid Mixer, much like this one (but grey) for well over 10 years. It never failed nor had I ever had a problem with it. But it sat 3,000 miles away from my present home, and figuring the price of shipping - and wanting A RED ONE, I opted to buy a reconditioned red one here.

The word "RECONDITIONED" made me uncomfortable , but the price allowed me to reason out the new purchase....so I bought it. It looked perfectly fine and worked perfectly fine, though I kept waiting for some weird happening that might occur, so I would have to call the company and COMPLAIN.

Sure enough- it seems when you expect something, indeed there is a tendency for that "something" to occur. One day the bowl felt wobbly and the beaters seem to hit the sides. Oh NO!! I called over my engineer husband to assess my problem. As it turned out, "my problem" was indeed MY problem, I had not pushed the bowl down enough to click. LOL

So make sure you click the bowl totally into place....

It has worked wonderfully and I am pleased I took the chance on "reconditioned."
