wonderful customer service !!,

5 stars for both Amazon and KitchenAid. 4 stars for the product. I bought the onyx pro 5 3 mos ago. Amazon sent me the wrong model and quickly sent out another one on top of the 20% discount for their mistake. OK, the 2nd one was still the wrong model but the 20% off will do. WHen I first used it, there was an electric smell which I was told would go away eventually by a KA costumer service rep. Three mos later, it still smelled. I called KA and they are sending out a pro 6 to replace my pro 5. What a great upgrade! Granted the original refurbish one had to be returned, but I'm not worried. This is my second KA mixer. The first lasted 10 years and still going. I just wanted to get a stronger, larger model to appease my love for bread making. A 10 for both Amazon and KitchenAid for customer service.

No doubt, these refurbished wonders -- when they work well -- are a steal of a deal. However, beware that there is widespread problem with this model, which is perhaps why there are so many available. A rep at a local restaurant supply store near me told me they have been instructed on how to handle this because it's very common with this model. Mine was refurbished incorrectly and I lost out on holiday baking this year because my replacement -- kindly upgraded by KitchenAid -- is so backordered it won't arrive until mid-january. Others seem to have scored with this purchase, so do indulge (I am awed by the perfomance when it performs). But, if it sounds even a little funny, don't waste time -- send it back. I decided to get one as a xmas present to myself in time for holiday baking. I ordered before the model changed, so got the 350-watt version, which is plenty powerful (I don't need to churn bread dough). It was clean as a whistle, but there was a little grinding noise in the mechanism that rotates the beater. A call to a KitchenAid tech concluded that it probably just needed to "get the oil moving in the gears," so I opted to stick it out through the holidays and see what happened. Big mistake. It sputtered out during creaming a batch of sugar cookies. Kitchen Aid is sending me a brand spanking new, and upgraded, model, but no nibbles for Santa and the reindeer this year.

my second Kitchenaid Mixer,
This review is from: Factory-Reconditioned KitchenAid RRKP50 Professional 5 Series 5-Quart Stand Mixer, Empire Red (Kitchen)
I have owned a previous Kitchenaid Mixer, much like this one (but grey) for well over 10 years. It never failed nor had I ever had a problem with it. But it sat 3,000 miles away from my present home, and figuring the price of shipping - and wanting A RED ONE, I opted to buy a reconditioned red one here. The word "RECONDITIONED" made me uncomfortable , but the price allowed me to reason out the new purchase....so I bought it. It looked perfectly fine and worked perfectly fine, though I kept waiting for some weird happening that might occur, so I would have to call the company and COMPLAIN. Sure enough- it seems when you expect something, indeed there is a tendency for that "something" to occur. One day the bowl felt wobbly and the beaters seem to hit the sides. Oh NO!! I called over my engineer husband to assess my problem. As it turned out, "my problem" was indeed MY problem, I had not pushed the bowl down enough to click. LOL So make sure you click the bowl totally into place.... It has worked wonderfully and I am pleased I took the chance on "reconditioned."

I absolutely love my mixer I have it in Onyx black. It reminds me of our black camaro. The rich color of black and stainless steel is so gorgeous!I am slowly replacing appliances in my kitchen with the black and stainless. This is a heavy mixer and very very strong.Making meatloaf and not getting your hands full of ground beef is nice and baking is so much fun.I love the idea you can put attatchments on it,even one for polishing my silver!!A great deal,I guess after reading about the bowl lift design it is stronger than the tilt head model so I am appreciating it more.I am learning to get the beater off and on AND YOU DONT HAVE TO SCRAPE BUT ONCE then it does all the work.I absolutely love it if you cant already tell!!Enjoy!!!!

I bake a lot as we have food allergies in our family. I just got this mixer from Amazon yesterday. Why didn't I do this sooner? It is so easy to use. I see this changing the whole way I cook. Solid, quick and still with a warranty at a great price. What more could I ask for?

Customer service makes the difference,

The mixer is a great product at an excellent price, but what really makes the difference is Kitchenaid's customer service. When my mixer arrived I had trouble adjusting the beater height (which I erroneously felt I had to adjust since my bowl wasn't popped in firmly on the support), and I overadjusted the screw to the point that it fell inside the stand of the machine. When I called customer service, they readily offered to replace the mixer with a new one, including the cost of shipping. All I can think is, this is a company that wants my business--and I will gladly give it to them in the future. The mixer itself works great, and I find I am using it more than I imagined I would (I originally got it to mix bread). I make whole wheat bread with it and it mixes splendidly. My only complaint is with the accompanying cookbook. The whole wheat bread recipe in the cookbook resulted in a flat, overbrowned bread. I just use my favorite recipe from a standard cookbook and let the mixer knead for the appropriate amount of time.

Mixer arrived in a timely manner. Everything in the box was in excellent shape. We tested out all the attachments, no problems. We are happy!!! I should say the wife is, because now I don't have to hear her beg for this for Christmas.

Couldn't tell it was used,
This review is from: Factory-Reconditioned KitchenAid RRKP50 Professional 5 Series 5-Quart Stand Mixer, Empire Red (Kitchen)
I was a bit nervous about ordering this at first given that it was a gift and i didn't want to give something "used" to my wife for her birthday. She has wanted one of these for a while and couldn't be happier with it if i'd paid $150 more!

Like many others, I was skeptical when I saw this mixer. The fact that it was reconditioned scared me a bit, but the price was to good to ignore, so I bought it.The mixer is exactly what I was hoping for. It looks brand new and works like a dream. I have absolutely no complaints; in fact, I've told at least 10 people about this buy. This work-horse costs less than a puny little Classic at Wal-Mart! If you're considering buying this, do it. You won't be sorry.

We got this mixer a couple years ago from Amazon. It is a factory reconditoned model and we have had no problems at all with it. The bowl looked like it had been used before, but it would have looked that way after the first time I used it anyways. For the great deal I got, it was really no big deal. Glad a took a chance and tried a reconditioned model. I use it for everything and have no complaints.
