This review is from: Factory-Reconditioned Makita LXT407 18V LXT 4-Piece Cordless Combo Kit LXT407R (Misc.)
I have used these tools on my job and around the house. The batteries are fast to charge and really last. The batteries hold full power till the very end of the charge. The charger did not work after the first week and a local Makita service center replaced it no problem. The impact driver is the cats meow. It is my first and I only use the drill to drill, not drive screws. This is such a improvement over a standard cordless drill, I'll never be without one again. the hammer drill is a little weak. I also have a Dewalt 18 volt hammer drill and they are about the same. Makita's lithium batteries are very impressive.Chuck Huffstetler

When I bought this set it was down to Makita or Milwaukee. At the time, the Makita batteries were better but with Milwaukee's new "red" line of batteries, they really are basically identical, so if I was doing it again, I would shop solely based on price. The impact driver is an awesome tool. I have a pneumatic impact for the hard stuff, but I haven't had to use it since I bought this set. The reciprocating saw is good. I like the feel of the Milwaukee more, but I can't really identify what it is or fault the Makita in any way. The hammer driver is a real work horse, has handled everything I have thrown at it. The flashlight, well its a flashlight. The batteries last long, charge quickly. For being reconditioned, mine looked honestly brand new. Overall, great little set.

i love these 18v ltx makita tools . i especially like that this kit has the bag rather than the hard plastic case. it is strong light and easy to carry and holds a lot of extra tools and accessories and the best part is at the end of the day you dont have to figure out how the tools go back in

Makita exceeded my high expectations... so far,

Makita LXT 407R review sold by CPO-MakitaI've been leery about reconditioned units since you never know what you'll get and if the batteries turn out to be old or a dud it negates any deal, but I was pleasantly surprised. Previously, I had an 11 year old Makita 12V drill with OEM 2.6 Ah NimH batteries that lasted about 5-6 years and for the past 5 years had the Makita 3.0 ah NimH batteries, where one died and the other is on its last leg. So I had high expectations for these Makita tools. After only using it for a week, the 18V drill seems very similar to my old drill. Slightly lighter and a little more power. YMMV, but my set seemed brand new. None of the tools or batteries had a single scratch on them, except for the "R" (reconditioned) branding next to the model number. I carefully looked at the terminals to see how often the battery had been put on and off, and it looked like it had never been used. All the tools still had a strong plastic/rubber smell, like new. The build dates were only 10 months old. To me everything looks new. So if you are in the market for a cordless drill kit with the longer lasting batteries, I think this is the best one out there for a very low price. I tested the batteries by putting them in the flashlight and seeing how long they last. According to the owners manual, they should last about 4 hours and take about 22 minutes to charge. The batteries don't just start dimming when they get low, they turn off completely. My first battery lasted 4 hours and 7 minutes and the second lasted 4 hours and 11 minutes, and charged in about 25 minutes but the fan stays on for another 5 minutes to cool it off before use. I'm assuming they sent me new batteries Another thing I learned on the web about these smart Makita batteries is that they have a timer or charge counter. The MEMORY chip inside the battery counts the number of charges/discharge cycles and after a certain number sets a flag telling the 'smart charger' to no longer supply voltage to restore the Li-ION batteries. I had read a lot of bad reviews (back in 2009) about the smaller 1.5 Ah batteries failing in 1-2 years, I guess depending on how many times you charge these LXT 3.0 Ah batteries they should last double 2-4 years. Bummer about the battery counter. Anyway in a couple of years there will probably be knock-off batteries on Ebay to defeat these timers. I love my Makita cordless, I HATE 'smart' batteries... |
