Reconditioned, Yes. Batteries - questionable..,

This review is from: Factory-Reconditioned Makita LCT200W-R 18V Cordless Lithium-Ion Compact 2-Piece Combo Kit (Misc.)
Prior to buying this reconditioned set, I already owned this kit - I bought it new and I will pretty much tell anyone who will listen how great this drill and driver are. I've used my set hard for two years, and they've held up really well. I ordered another reconditioned kit for my father in law, because it seemed like a good deal ($50 savings over the best deal I could find new in any local store) and the previous positive review boosted my confidence. The reconditioned kit arrived promptly. The blue cloth padded case showed some wear and staining, which I don't really care about. I can tell the drill and driver have been thoroughly gone over - the tools I got look like new factory seconds - a few small scuffs, but no worse than my new set looked after an hour of use. The batteries shipped with the kit were another story. MY set of batteries (bought new) have dozens if not a few hundred charge cycles on them, and have taken their fair share of job site punishment - they look a little rough but they still work like new. Both batteries I received with this reconditioned kit seriously look like they were set on a gravel street and kicked around for an hour or so. Nervous, I got on the phone to Makita right away to see about sending the kit back, but after a half hour of being on hold I just gave up. I just can't believe that these almost-new tools could possibly have originally shipped with such abused batteries - that level of wear would have to show. The batteries DO seem to take a charge, so who knows? Maybe they tested okay at Makita HQ. Also, the charger that came with the reconditioned kit makes a whirring noise that's noticeably louder (and far more grating) than my identical charger. We'll have to wait and see if they hold up like my bought-new set has. Bottom line, I guess it's really just up to luck what they decide to send you.

This review is from: Factory-Reconditioned Makita LCT200W-R 18V Cordless Lithium-Ion Compact 2-Piece Combo Kit (Misc.)
The drill was a bit gritty and had a scratch on the adjustment ring, but appears perfectly functional with great ergos. This replaces a 12v Makita hammer drill that was heavier. I have a Bosch driver for lighter duty and a Milwaukee 18v for high torque needs. These tools are light, wieldy and with any luck the Li ion batteries will not self discharge if I don't use them frequently.
Sweet deal for 2 great tools. I saved about $50 and am delighted with the tools at this point. If you are in the trades, you will want the kit with the 451 drill and bigger batteries. The 452 works great for home duty and the occasional Habitat for Humanity build. I hope to supplement this report as I get more trigger time.

excellent!!! i use it daily in the commercial hvacr field. charges fast, lots of torque and easy to handle. would be lost without it. could not tell the difference between the reconditioned model and the brand new one. would buy again as the cost savings are well worth it.
