Reconditioned, Yes. Batteries - questionable..,

This review is from: Factory-Reconditioned Makita LCT200W-R 18V Cordless Lithium-Ion Compact 2-Piece Combo Kit (Misc.)
Prior to buying this reconditioned set, I already owned this kit - I bought it new and I will pretty much tell anyone who will listen how great this drill and driver are. I've used my set hard for two years, and they've held up really well. I ordered another reconditioned kit for my father in law, because it seemed like a good deal ($50 savings over the best deal I could find new in any local store) and the previous positive review boosted my confidence. The reconditioned kit arrived promptly. The blue cloth padded case showed some wear and staining, which I don't really care about. I can tell the drill and driver have been thoroughly gone over - the tools I got look like new factory seconds - a few small scuffs, but no worse than my new set looked after an hour of use. The batteries shipped with the kit were another story. MY set of batteries (bought new) have dozens if not a few hundred charge cycles on them, and have taken their fair share of job site punishment - they look a little rough but they still work like new. Both batteries I received with this reconditioned kit seriously look like they were set on a gravel street and kicked around for an hour or so. Nervous, I got on the phone to Makita right away to see about sending the kit back, but after a half hour of being on hold I just gave up. I just can't believe that these almost-new tools could possibly have originally shipped with such abused batteries - that level of wear would have to show. The batteries DO seem to take a charge, so who knows? Maybe they tested okay at Makita HQ. Also, the charger that came with the reconditioned kit makes a whirring noise that's noticeably louder (and far more grating) than my identical charger. We'll have to wait and see if they hold up like my bought-new set has. Bottom line, I guess it's really just up to luck what they decide to send you.

The drill was a bit gritty and had a scratch on the adjustment ring, but appears perfectly functional with great ergos. This replaces a 12v Makita hammer drill that was heavier. I have a Bosch driver for lighter duty and a Milwaukee 18v for high torque needs. These tools are light, wieldy and with any luck the Li ion batteries will not self discharge if I don't use them frequently.
Sweet deal for 2 great tools. I saved about $50 and am delighted with the tools at this point. If you are in the trades, you will want the kit with the 451 drill and bigger batteries. The 452 works great for home duty and the occasional Habitat for Humanity build. I hope to supplement this report as I get more trigger time.

excellent!!! i use it daily in the commercial hvacr field. charges fast, lots of torque and easy to handle. would be lost without it. could not tell the difference between the reconditioned model and the brand new one. would buy again as the cost savings are well worth it.

Nice Drill, driver is too light...,

This was my third drill combo from makita, the second with an impact driver. The drill is dynamite, great speed and power, perfect weight and balance. A big improvement over my previous 14 volt makita drill. The charger and batteries are very nice - super quick charging.
The impact driver is a monster, but i either had difficulty controlling the power or the tool is too light. I kept camming out screws or having difficulty keeping the drill on the screw head. I love my 14 volt makita impact driver, and for some reason it's just easier to use. It's actually a bit heavier, but i can drive any screw or bolt, even if i'm standing on my head. The new driver i stripped allot of screws and went through more bits. Again - maybe it's a power control issue - but I found it difficult to use. Makita is great, but for me, the impact driver was a deal breaker.

I bought this combo from Tool King. They had the best price at that time. It included the drill, impact, 2 batteries, charger and the bag. Shipping was ok about 6 days,as advertised. I expected to get a somewhat used set with scratches worn paint, etc. No. The bag was new. Both tools looked new except for the "factory reconditioned" stickers on them. The batteries and charger were almost new. It was a pleasant surprise. I've had it for about a month now and I very satisfied with the whole package. This is my first experience with an impact driver and it is awesome. Light weight and very powerful. The drill is great too. light, compact and powerful. I got the smaller 1.5 amp batteries. They don't hold a charge as long as I would like but they do recharge in about 15 minutes. So that is not a problem. If you are going to do a lot of heavy work you will probably want to get the bigger 3.0 amp batteries. This is a great tool pkg and I'm glad I got it.

I am not a contractor, but I am a very handy-man as they say. After doing ALOT of shopping around and researching, I decided to go with this set. The lightness compared to the full size (blue ones with 3.0 mah batteries) does make a difference. With two batteries and quick charger, I am really not ever out of juice. I highly recommend this set. I even was hesitant at purchasing an impact driver but I really do like it the most now. I have added an impact bit set Makita T-01389 62-Piece Impact Drill-Driver Bit Set from Makita that comes with a variety of bits and am set. I do wish it had a hard case but it would be very large to accommodate the impact driver, drill, charger and two batteries. With the soft case, it does have a hard plastic insert with two fixed dividers to provide three slots for your items. Their is also a sewn in place in the lid that can hold 5-8 (I forget) bits (like mini-sleeves in elastic). It does come with a Phillips bit as well. I also like the belt holders that come with both the impact driver and the drill. The only thing that I wanted that would of made this the best eva was some bit holders. I went ahead and ordered two screw bit holders for my drill from here: [...] Although they have gone up since I bought them a few weeks ago.

I use this drill daily and i love it. it doesn't have as much horsepower as the milwaukee 18 volt but it has a 15 min. charge and it works great.
