4.0 out of 5 stars I am a "bit" cautious.
I bought this drill after my second old wonderful 9.6 volt Makita, which is no longer made, finally died. I chose this Milwaukee based on several excellent reviews on independent sites, viewing with caution one comment that says the drill bit can fall out. This tool is VERY light. Even lighter than expected. Amazingly so. And there is no wobble at all in the bit. So...

3.0 out of 5 stars strong but has bad batteries
when the battery is fully charged the tool works great. a few screws and the power is gone.
the battery that came with the product lasted only a day then stopped working. after i asked for a replacement a new one was sent right away w/ no questions. i guess i was not the first one. i hope there is a second generation for these batteries.

4.0 out of 5 stars I am a "bit" cautious., June 4, 2010

I bought this drill after my second old wonderful 9.6 volt Makita, which is no longer made, finally died. I chose this Milwaukee based on several excellent reviews on independent sites, viewing with caution one comment that says the drill bit can fall out. This tool is VERY light. Even lighter than expected. Amazingly so. And there is no wobble at all in the bit. So far so good. But what is it with the bit falling out? I am up on a ladder, outside, with the bit racheted in very tightly, testing out the drill when suddenly, between drilling, I look down and with no warning I have no bit. Climb down, look in the grass, no luck. I know the lawnmower will find it, and hopefully not put out someone's eye with the lost bit. Is this a flaw or is it a design on purpose to prevent over torqueing or something? Does anyone know? I will update this after I talk to Milwaukee. Also, in reading the manual (yes, i read the manual first!) it says this "heavy duty drill driver" (that's what the manual calls it)is good for drilling small holes and installing screws such as a #6 screw with a full pilot hole. Now I ask anyone out there who has this tool or who has a different one they love and can tell me--Who needs a heavy duty drill driver to put in a #6 screw, even without a pilot hole? You can do that with a screwdriver. I will play with this for a little bit but I am afraid I may be returning it for a drill meant to drill holes more than a pilot hole for a #6 screw.
Fifteen minutes later: I am upgrading my 3 to 4 stars until I use this drill more. I love the feel of it so much I am willing to give it a chance. I spoke with Tech Support at Milwaukee, and am pleased to report the man did not talk down to a woman who likes tools! He acknowledged the issue of the bit loosening by itself and gave me a trick to overcome it. He also said that as far as the "heavy duty" nature of the drill, I should not expect to build a deck with big long lag screws without pilot holes, but that for every day drilling, I should be happy with this tool.

UPDATE: One more comment after using this tool for several projects. Get about six batteries. You will need them all on every project unless you have the charger readily accessible.

And I am not 100% confident the "trick" about keeping the bit in place really works. It seems like the bit often comes loose--usually I remember to do the extra grinding of the gears as recommended by Milwaukee (on the phone) but I still often find the bit loose or falling out altogether.

I have neen using this tool for a a while and I find it to be very good. It was rated the best 12 v drill/driver by Wood Magazine and that us why I purchased it, and I have not been disappointed. I find that the reconditioned tool is every bit as good as a new one.

I have used this drill over the last month and it is as awesome as you would expect for a 12-volt tool with a 3/8" chuck! It has replaced an old 12-volt Porter Cable which served many good years but began having clutch problems. This little baby is much lighter and has the umph to get the job done! It will not perform with the power of an 18-volt drill but is exceptionally handy around the home and for appropriate professional work. Coming with a charger and two batteries that recharge within about 20 minutes makes this unit efficient and very user friendly. The batteries are also interchangeable with my 12-volt Milwaukee Hackzall so it became a welcome addition. What I did notice is that these little batteries do not hold the charge when stored in the cold. If so, be sure to charge them up before you start work.

I needed something compact and easy to handle to mix small batches of A/B liquid resin with a drill-mounted paint mixer.
The problem is that almost all compact cordless drills max out at 600 to 900 RPMs.
This is too slow to fully mix a liquid with solid fillers in 5 to 10 seconds. That's my time limit, otherwise the resin begins to harden and I can't pour it into the molds.
This little sucker goes up to 1500 RPMs which is FAST for a compact cordless, actually faster than most compact drills WITH a power cord.
Resin gets mixed in no time at all.
Batteries are small but last longer than you'd expect. It also has a nifty little readout on the side that tells you how much power is left in the battery.
Totally worth the money.

There were some not so good reviews for this Drive/Drill. But I have used this Driver/Drill now for three months and I must say you can not get better one. This is so far the best Drill/Driver I ever had

I just purchased this refurbished drill from CPO and they did a great job. The drill looks and feels brand new, no scratches. Delivery was fast and overall the drill has been easy to use and nice and powerful. I previously had a small black and decker that died and this new Milwaukee drill is a beast, I love it!
