I have long been a fan of the ridgid product line and expected nothing but greatness from their bench top planer. I thought that it would be a good idea to save some money by buying a reconditioned model...turns out this was a HUGE mistake! The first one that I received in the mail was shipped upside down in a box that looked like it was kept in someone's attic for about 10 years. Shook that one off, hooked it up and started using it. Planed about 5 lineal feet of lumber and the cutter assembly ended up getting misaligned when I tried to lower it, and the machine began to make a huge rattling noise. Called CPO outlets describing the problem and told them I wanted another one. After 4 days, I received my next reconditioned planer. The box was in a little better condition this time, however when I set the machine up, the metal where the dust collection port mounts was cracked and had broken free. Dust collection has clearly been affected. In short, do not buy these factory reconditioned planers from ridgid or CPO outlets. I have no idea who is to blame for the poor condition of these products. I do know I will NEVER buy factory reconditioned again

I like this planer, it is easy to use and does a remarkebly smooth cut, The wood looks like it is polished.
I saved a lot of money buying this refurbished machine. and would recommend it to others.

This planer does all that could be expected of it. It is well-designed, and the build quality is typical Ridgid, which means it is very good.

The supplier, CPO OUTLETS, did the worst job of packing that I have ever seen. The unit was damaged in transit as a result.

The Ridgid ZRR4331 is a fine planer; what a disappointment to have it spoiled by "don't give a damn" packing.

Thanks a lot. Love my planer.

This review is about the 12 inch Ridgid thickness planer we bought new from Home Depot about three years ago. It was missing parts. From the get go the company was impossible to reach or get any replies from. I WAS SUCKED INTO THIS PURCHASE BY THE GREAT PEOPLE AT HOME DEPOT. I mean that sincerely since the store people have always been the best and as a result I had no reason not to trust them. Unfortunately the lifetime warranty they sold me on isn't worth didly nor is RIDGID for that matter. The machine was missing parts. Trying to contact any live person at RIDGID was an impossibility. Getting a reply was totally fruitless. I was ready to return the machine when the people at Home Depot replaced the missing parts at the store so we had a complete machine. This should have told me something about RIDGID. A month ago I brought the machine in for repairs as it stopped working abruptly and the store people asked for repair charge authorization. I said we had a lifetime warranty. Needless to say we received a phone call a few minutes ago and they could find no warranty info and that it would cost $140 to repair. Eventually I found my original paperwork which was worthless, Home Depot could not locate an authorization. This is where my phone calls to RIDGID were worthless when we registered the product. Stay away from this company. As my papa said "buy the best and buy it once!" I guess if it sounds too good to be true it is just that. I have bought tools from Bosch, Delta, Rockwell, Porter Cable, Milwaukee and the like and have never had problems. RIDGID more than made up for any bad luck we've ever had with tools. I have tools that are over 50 years old and maintain them to avoid problems. RIDGID is junk as is their warranty.Read more ›
