Pretty Beat Up and a Battery That Does Not Work,
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Factory-Reconditioned Ryobi ZRP844 ONE Plus 18V Cordless Lithium-ion 4-Piece Combo Kit (Misc.)
UPDATE: AFTER CHARGING BOTH BATTERIES I JUST DISCOVERED THAT ONE OF THEM DOES NOT WORK AT ALL
I understand that refurbished or reconditioned means that I am not getting something new. I never expected reconditioned to mean beat up though. Now the tools in this kit are actually in great shape, however one of the batteries looks like it has been used for years and it is all banged/scratched up. The bag used to carry the tools is frayed and has stains all over it. These couple of items have been through the wringer which brings the quality of this purchase way down. Typically when I buy refurbbed items they look brand new and look like they have never been used. This is not the case here. So this came with a beat up battery and a battery that does not even work. Would not reccomend this seller.

Factory Reconditioned Ryobi Tool kit.,
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Factory-Reconditioned Ryobi ZRP844 ONE Plus 18V Cordless Lithium-ion 4-Piece Combo Kit (Misc.)
I am extremely disappointed at this purchase. The Ryobi tools are good tools. But, it was a poor choice to buy them on-line from Amazon. The write up was very deceiving. It did describe that factory reconditioned tools might have scratches. The write-up however said "1 new set available for $195.99." In different screens it said factory reconditioned. It was difficult to know what we were getting. The tools sent look like rummage sale tools. They have been used hard and even the batteries are all scratched up. The recipricating saw looks like it has been chewed on. I am extremely dissappointed that I didn't go to Home Depot and get a brand new set for just $50 more. I would return them for a full refund but after ordering them, I sold my old set that I had had several years that looked much newer than what I got. I would have thought the reconditioned set might at least have new batteries as the lifespan of Ryobi batteries has long been the products downfall.

(VIDEO)The Ryobi Combo Kit (ZRP844) is a poorly reconditioned product. I would not purchase again.,

This is a video of the Ryobi Combo Kit (ZRP844) purchased through Amazon in June 2010 from CPO Ryobi.
[...] This 'Combo Kit' was purchased so my mom could have some decent tools of her own, that way I could stop bringing my own tools when things need to be fixed at her place. I came across this Amazon listing and initially thought it sounded like a pretty good deal. Boy was I wrong! Now I didn't expect these tools to be perfect, maybe a few scratches or small dings, but I would have never guessed I'd receive tools that looked like they were purchased from a garage sale. I've purchased refurbished blenders, appliances, lawn mowers, and even a reconditioned bathtub. Never have I regretted purchasing a reconditioned product as much as I regret purchasing this 'combo kit.' Everything else I've purchased that is reconditioned looks pretty good and you really have to look for signs of wear, but not with this Ryobi set. Not only have these tools been used rather hard, some of the tools don't even work. My first problem was with the drill. I thought is was in pretty good condition at first, but when I went to adjust the torque setting, the drill tightened up as it neared the drill-bit setting. Now I played with these tools a good bit before and since receiving this drill and I can say as a matter of fact that the drill is not supposed to be that way. I also had a problem with the condition of the reciprocating saw, circular saw, and large battery. The saws both showed extensive wear on the grips. The mechanical parts seemed to be fine and worked well, but the rubber grips had holes worn into the grip. This concerns me for a couple reasons, the first being that these holes will only get bigger and eventually I will start wearing down the plastic. Second, how hard were these tools used that someone wore through the grip? If these tools were used a lot, then that means the battery was used a lot too, and I wont have a battery with as much life left had I purchased new. The replacement batteries cost almost as much as a new combo kit. My main problem with the battery was that it had paint lodged in the seams of the case. How can they say these are reconditioned when they don't even bother to clean old paint of the tools? I was able to get most all of the paint out with a toothpick and a couple squirts of goof-off. The smaller battery had what seemed like glue on the bottom of it, only took 30 seconds to clean, but again why wasn't that already done? These tools are described in the listing as like-new, and the condition of the tools upon ordering is described as new. These tools are used and show a lot of wear, that is how I would describe them. I almost forgot to mention how bad the bag looked. I would have guessed it had been left outside in a month-long dust storm, it was that dirty. Not a big deal, but worth mentioning. Something else worth mentioning that isn't in the listing: these tools are all branded with the word 'RECON.' You can see what I am talking about if you watch the video, look at the bottom of the smaller battery that is all sticky. Again not that big of a deal, but I feel like I should have been told about this in the listing. If these were my everyday tools I would have been a little upset that I didn't know this before purchasing. To some people these issues may be no big deal, and if just one of these problems existed, I would probably think very differently of my purchase. The way these tools were described though, and for only a [...] discount compared to Home Depot, I expected more for my money. For what it's worth, I talked to CPO Ryobi and they sent a replacement, claiming that tools usually aren't as bad off as this. Well guess what? The replacement unit was just as bad. If you order this expect a used product that may be pretty beaten up. Moreover, Ryobi knows how poor a condition these tools are in and they are the ones that okay them for resale. CPO should make the true condition better known though.
