4.0 out of 5 stars Good light saw
I bought one from CPO as a reconditioned unit. Came with bar, chain, manual and bar-tool. Did not come with case or other accessories. First time I tried to run it, it spit solvent from the muffler and ran way too rich (fat). So I ordered the "Double D" carb adjusting tool from Randys Small Engines.

In about a week I had my tool and set about getting it...

3.0 out of 5 stars Hard to find information and leave feedback
I received the unit today and put the chain on, added fuel, and chain oil. The unit had sawdust inside the unit and overall not very clean, this does not seem to fit reconditioned description, more like used. It took me awhile to get it started probably because gas and oil were drained and was hard to start hopefully it will be fine.
Now the reason I left feedback...

Now the reason I left feedback here is even following instructions from Amazon I can't seem to find how to get additional information on the product such as warrenty info and service and perhaps let them know the overall condition of the unit in case of any problems.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy this, May 14, 2008
This review is from: Factory Reconditioned Ryobi ZRRY10532 18-Inch 40cc 2-Cycle Gas-Powered Chain Saw (Lawn & Patio)
When I first opened the box, I was impressed that they had included a brand new chain bar and chain with this refurbished saw. However, after I put the saw together and started it up, my opinion changed. The flywheel rubs against the inside of the housing - it actually rubbed a thin strip of metal off of it and gouged the inside of the housing. I figured, no problem, I'll return it. I soon found out Amazon does not let you return gas powered items (funny, they had no problem shipping it w/ gas and oil in it). Lesson learned- read the small print on Amazon, or better yet, don't buy anything with moving parts.

In about a week I had my tool and set about getting it right. Fired it up and turned the high speed down jet to about 1 3/4 turns and low speed down to just under 1 1/2 turns. Runs fine now. Has good power, but likes to wind. If you load it too hard it will bog. This same motor is used by the RC Model Plane folks. It's made by Zenoah.

Comes stock with Carlton semi-chisel chain and that's a pretty aggressive chain, so it can load the motor pretty easily. Might have been better to put a VG style chain on it, but that's what it comes with. If you just let the saw do the cutting and don't lean on it at all, it'll plow through most anything. I have cut 3 14"+ standing oaks and it runs fine.

Nice oiler. Has primer bulb and choke. Needs to warm up on 1/2 choke and then you're off to the races. Is sensitive to oil quality. A while back I learned my lessons about using TWC-3 outboard oil in air cooled high speed 2-strokes when I stuck a ring and ate a motor on another saw. Use only JASO FC / ISO EGD oil for air cooled 2-strokes and you'll be fine. I use Motul 710 or Valvoline 2T, but there are lots of other choices including G-Oil that all rate EGD or EGD+. G-Oil is US made and is biodegradable so that may be a good choice when my stock of existing oil runs out.

I case anyone is interested, I'm over 50 and used to work for Forestry Dept. Grew up on a farm and heated the house with fire wood only so Pa and I cut 5~7 cords a year just for home. I sold fire wood for a while and I still cut 2~3 cords of hardwood for my current house. I own and run 7 chainsaws. Some with special chains like Rapco Carbide for demo and construction, or Carlton ripping chain for stump slicing. This saw is good for limbing and most green wood up to 12" ~14". Above that, get a bigger saw.

Bottom line - good build quality, nice and light, good controls, low vibration, fairly quiet, decent bar and good chain. I'd buy another or recommend it for to a friend. Make sure to get the Double D carb tool, you'll need it.

The unit came in much faster than stated in the add, it appeared to be new, there was no sawdust as stated in previous reviews, started up right out of the box, the only draw back is you MUST follow the directions exactly, any changes and it won't start. Over all I am happy with the purchase.

I am a first time chain saw buyer/user, I was able to get this thing running & have used it to fell several trees already & look forward to my friends asking if I can help them take down a tree. The chain has come off the bar on me a few times, but that is chalked up to me not knowing how to handle a saw properly, obviously things would have gone a little smoother if I were to have followed the instructions for cutting to a tee (when the chain has come off I knew exactly what I had done wrong.) This is an excellent product when used & maintained properly.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

Not even cleaned up and had to repair the flywheel as I assembled it. Complete waste of money. Worked for a day or so but no longer starts and runs. Piece of junk - and bye the way, Amazon refuses to allow you to return it - some nonsense about gas engine - but didn't prohibit them from shipping it TO me - and taking my $110! Same money you can buy an inexpensive NEW saw at Lowes or Home Depot. Shame on you, Amazon.

Got the chain saw. reported to be refurbished. runs fine. but chain was dull.. so it was like getting a used chain saw not a refurbished.. but that is not a big problem .. sharpened the chain and it works fine. but I see new ones now for little more than I paid.. timing is everything I guess.

Pretty cool little chainsaw. I use it for firewood cutting. This is shipped from the factory so if you have problems don't expect Amazon or any other company online to refund your money. Companies like this don't keep the products physically onsite. They send over the order to the Factory for shipment to your home. Also, refurbished is just that. If you get one without any sort of problems whatsoever, you did good. If you there are problems, don't take it to a shop and let em' know it's refurbished. The shop will see cha-ching on your forehead and try to get you to buy one from them. If you are mechanicaly enclined, I would suggest something like a refurbished chainsaw or if you have experience in their use and how they work. I love mine, but I did have to do some tinkering to make this bad boy run like brand new. But it was nothing too serious.

You may find a manual for this product on OwnerIQ.net. You have to become a member to download the file. It's easy enough. The chain you are going to need if you need a replacement is Oregon 18 inch 91VG. Also, sometimes it bogs down when cutting an upright tree and the fuel filter can get stuck inside the tank causing it to not be very nice the next time you try to start it or quiting on you while you cut. You can fix this by doing this little modification to the fuel filter. Install a chainsaw fuel line that is noticeably more flexible than the existing line (unfortunately there was no name on the spool it came from). The length is important; I believe it was 6" from the hole in tank to end of filter - if too short it won't move properly. I found that the filter would not consistently move from one end of the tank to the other as I rotated and shook the saw. The tank has many nooks and crannies that catch the filter. I added a brass bushing over the filter to add weight. It is a friction-fit with an 1/8" wall thickness and about 5/16" long so that it won't block the filter. I then found that the fuel line would tangle on the fuel return line, so I withdrew the return line from the tank so that only about 3/8" was exposed and cut the length accordingly. It is a great little saw and now it works like new again.

This review is from: Factory Reconditioned Ryobi ZRRY10532 18-Inch 40cc 2-Cycle Gas-Powered Chain Saw (Lawn & Patio)
I was very pleased with the product. For a purchase of $109.00, I saved over $500.00 from the estimate I got to cut up and remove a fallen tree. Item was very easy to use and did an excellent job.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rebranded Red Max, September 4, 2010
This review is from: Factory Reconditioned Ryobi ZRRY10532 18-Inch 40cc 2-Cycle Gas-Powered Chain Saw (Lawn & Patio)
SO this saw is a rebranded red max GZ400 Parts are readily available. I wont comment on Ryobi's reconditioning abilities but if you can get one of these saws It will cut like a Beast with a little work. Motor is a susperbe piece of work. Ditch the safety chain and pay attention to where the fuel filter is.

Google the saw's name and you cna learn a lot.

Most two stroke chain saw's require lots of attention they are not use me and forget me for month's items. Take care of it and it will last the average home owner for years.

I work for the USFS service building trails so I use and have access to an army of stihl's and husky's. Properly serviced and cared for this saw is perfect for the average home owner.
