The micro filter really works well for managing the sanding dust.

It is reconditioned but hardly you can tell if ever has been used; it's like new.

We used this to remove paint lines remaining from wallpaper marks left after taking down paper that had been up for years. The thought of hand sanding an entire room was scary. The Skil sander performed beautifully and we were able to get the room done in a fraction of the time I expected. The advantage of having the dust collector is unbelieveable! Through hours of sanding there was almost no dust blown throughout the room. It had to be emptied several times, and that is not the easiest job. You have to take your finger or a brush and reach inside to loosen much of the dust. That isn't hard, but sort of gross!

The only other problem is the weight of the unit. It is difficult to hold it at head level or above for a lengthy time, but still much easier than having to manually sand at those heights.

I give this sander an A+ rating.

This was the perfect sander for my husband. It is large enough to work on a variety of projects and does an excellent job. The price was excellent (factory reconditioned). I (and my husband) would recommend this sander.

I've owned a skil drill for many years (23) and it still out works my newer drills. So I thought I'd try one of their sanders. these sander are comfortable and work very well. Time will tell. At this point its 5 stars, and if it lasts anything like their other tools I own, it will pay for itself very soon.

i have had luck purchasing SKIL tools that are reconditioned. I like their tools, definitely well made- probably not commercial grade but I am not a professional and so do not need Porter-Cable quality all the time, esp for a 'palm sander'. I am replacing a 20 year old Makita palm sander that was great but out lived its usefulness mainly because the pad was all worn out, and the clamps were never very good and have recently gotten worse.

SO the price was right on this one and the reviews were good so decided to give it a shot. the brand new one was only 3-4 dollars more though and I wish i got that. unlike previous reconditioned tools I have bought that looked like brand new, this one looked like it was used- and quite a bit at that. the rubber base, however looked good, and the clips work fine so thats all that really matters. Tools get dirty really fast anyway. I tried it out and it works really good. . there is a little plate to punch holes in the papers to suck the dust through the machine. I have not tried with a shop vac yet, but that's a great idea for inside sanding...

Over all I'd say for the price the tool gets 5 stars, this merchant gets 3 though - as the tool is a little dirty and a little more used than I'd like. So thats where the 4 came from. I'd cough u a few bucks and get the brand new one as I like the sander. Not bad enough to bother returning but less nice condition than i would have expected.

<<< **EDIT Sept 4 ** >>> after using the sander to sand one 4 ft shelf, the rubber broke down and it fell apart in two places. My earlier concerns about it being really worn out proved to be true so I packed it up and shipped it back. I bought a Ryobi one and it seems to work fine and the rubber is a little harder.

I have already found this little sander to be an invaluable tool in my arsenal - I am currently gutting and refinishing an entire house and this tiny little gadget has been a real workhorse for all my projects. I use it to sand down joint compound when I'm doing drywall, I've used it to prep my walls for painting, I've used it on my floors to remove spots of paint, etc. I highly recommend this product and I am very pleased that I bought it.

I bought this refurbished mini sander to do some light paint prep work. I ended up refinishing a coffee table by sanding down to the bare wood with this little guy. What a champ. Even if a refurbished model doesn't last as long as a new one, I have already gotten my money's worth.

I was a little hesitant about buying the refurbished version of this tool, but since I saw several complaints about the sand paper coming off on the reviews of the brand new version, I assumed that these reconditioned units might have been fixed for that issue: I can say that so far after a couple of weeks of using one of the reconditioned units, I have not had any problem with my sander.
I actually kind of love it so far, here is why:

+ Easy to grip and not heavy at all
+ When in operation, glides easily on the work surface
+ Uses standard sand paper
+ Dust filter works more or less fine, just make sure that you use the provided base to perforate the sand paper (my guess is that the dust is collected though those six holes, which can be done all at one with the plastic base).

- On the downside, it can be slightly noisy, but not to an unbearable level.

Mine arrived inside a special carton box labeled as "Skill Reconditioned Tool", the sander was slightly dirty (some wood dust on the bottom) but not too much and it included the plastic base for the sand paper holes and a manual.

All in all great tool for the price if you are a weekend woodworker. I would say that it is one of the most helpful tools in my tool box, I can't imagine how my arms would feel after doing all the sanding by hand, and sincerely after using this tool, I don't mind finding it out... hope this was helpful.
