Great Drill Press For The Money,
By
This review is from: Factory-Reconditioned Skil 3320-01-RT 3.2 Amp 10-Inch Drill Press (Tools & Home Improvement)
I bought my Skil Model # 3320-01 drill press a few weeks ago and I am happy with my purchase. I was looking for something affordable, its purpose would not see industrial use so this press compared to various models by Delta, Jet, Central Machinery etc. fit the need for me.
What I liked was the fact that the contents were all there and the press was actually packed very well. Nothing is worse than trying to get parts that are suppose to be there but mine was complete. There is however a couple of things that might raise an eyebrow but is easily solved: 1) The drill press head pressed plate that receives the motor plate was not flat so the Motor Pulley and Spindle Pulley would not align. I took the press head plate to a nearby metal shop and they flattened it (took two seconds) for free - solved. 2) Maybe I'm being nit-picky but the laser can be touchy to adjust - it works. The battery compartment for the laser is also plastic so be tender with it. In my opinion, it is a very good drill press. The press is more quiet than I thought and the workings very smooth. It may not have the power others have but if your patient and use sharp bits you'll be pressed to beat the price.

Not that good a deal, even if you don't mind the risk,

The reviews mentioning packaging aren't kidding. If you end up with a working press is is a good deal. Mine had the metal cover on top bent and the laser battery cover was broken, but it still works.
Update: Now that I have checked Lowes price on a new one. Spent the extra $10 and get a new one. This isn't really that great a deal.

For the same price or less than a "hobby" drill you can have a real industrial product--if it gets to you intact! The packaging was totally inadequate to say the least. I received it dented, missing pieces and a manual. The styrofoam liner was torn into small pieces, I think the bubble wrap may have saved it. Amazon customer service was pleasant and offered me a small discount. Skil customer service was great and sent me one of the missing parts for free! I can find the rest at the local hardware store, and the manual is online. So buyer beware. If it was not working, it would have been a huge hassle to try and return, not to mention trying to repack. Good luck!

This is a disposable drill press. A part broke off of mine while putting it together. Skil said because of the price point they don't stock many replacement parts. Luckily mine was under warranty. Once again I'm reminded that you get what you pay for.

Bad Product - Worse Warranty Service,

Negative Stars!! Purchased this product brand new for a few $ more than the Amazon refurb one at the "Blue" home improv store. You can only return to the store in 30 days otherwise you have to ship it to Arkansas at your cost. Mine developed run out after about 6 months into a 1 year warranty skil/ bosch cutomer service said to ship it to their repair center for replacement. I argued that wasn't fair that I should have to find suitable packaging and ship 50 lbs at my expense. Eventually they sent a UPS label to return it on but no packaging. I was concerned about packing it and was told don't worry about shipping damage we don't repair them we will send you another. Don't repair what's with all the refurb ones on amazon? They received it last Friday and a replacement showed up here today. The plain brown box was beat to death and the bottom was holding together barely by an inch of tape. Inside the box all the drill press parts were thrown ok placed in there on top of one another with collapsed bubble wrap ( I took pictures and sent it to them). The unit I received had a refurb sticker on it and was in worse shape than the near perfect looking unit I sent them.. Someone had drilled into the table, the motor housing was all scraped like it was drung down the street for a few blocks etc. I have not assembled it and am waiting for a reponse from them I am demanding a new - as in not used - unit or my money back. This is the worst service, if you want a cheap drill press go to HF at least there is a store to take it back to. Big Blue "L" and Skil / Bosch don't stand behind this junk.

This was my second drill press from CPOSkill as the first one was defective. The company was very good about paying the return freight as well as shipping a replacment. If you buy this drill press, check the belt, it shouln't be tight or it well wear out the spindle. The belt should be loose at first, so that it can be adjusted for proper tension.
The laser beams are quite helpful for lining up your work and they were easy to adjust.

2 positive things about the unit: shipping took one business day and it came with new chuck, 2 sets of batteries for the laser and 2 chuck keys. OK, price is also a good thing - about $35 less than Amazon's current price for the new unit. Now, the bad. Packing - couple of layers of bubble wrap with some leftovers of the original styrofoam. Kind of works since it made it here, but Styrofoam was totally broken. The ugly: The base of my unit didn't have threads for the bolts where they were supposed to be. Step 1 - attach the column to the base with 4 bolts. No go, holes for the bolts were never threaded at the factory. It looks like the unit was originally returned because of that, then simply repacked and sold as refurbished without checking the base. I found some smaller bolts and nuts just to keep it together and see how it runs. And here is the problem 3, bad and ugly: the chuck vibrates and whole chuck axle lowering assembly makes noise. I don't know what the problem is, when I lover the chuck, the noise stops more or less, but it still vibrates about 1/64 of an inch. Veryannoying. So, what do I do? Spend a month dealing with CPO outlet or Skil? Driving 15 miles to the Post office spending $4 gas and paying for shipping? I have a better idea. I do not think the problem is with CPO outlet, Skil had to check the base and the drill press before calling it "refurbished". Based on that, I will fix it a different way: buy the same but new unit locally from a major distributor, use its base and chuck assembly (if it doesn't vibrate) then take it back to store and tell them to send it back to Skil as not working. It is the manufacturer's problem to deal with, not mine (I promise to buy something else from the local folks to compensate them for their time. Plus, they are distributors of Skil, so the can share some of its responsibilities as well).

Well, I was one of the lucky ones. Mine arrived with the package a mess but all pieces present. It assembled easily and runs smoothly. This is a "You get what you pay for" item. It is good value for the price but for better precision, buy a more expensive unit.

I was very impressed with this unit. It is as good as new and at a much lower price. Why would anyone buy new? You get the same warrenty as a new unit. I would strongly recommend this Factory-Reconditioned drill press.

Amazon.....What a joke.,
This review is from: Factory-Reconditioned Skil 3320-01-RT 3.2 Amp 10-Inch Drill Press (Tools & Home Improvement)
I don't usually leave reviews but my experience here with Amazon was so bad I had to. After many damaged book deliveries, I bought this in the hope that, Amazon might just be ok with brown goods. How wrong. The box it came in was barely held together. Once opened there was 100's of layers of bubble wrap. In the the middle was a gleaming beacon of polysterene - No Skil brand Box?... Once opened the drill was clearly used and returned. I know people do this with big screen tv's for the superbowl but this is a drill! The cables were covered in paint. The Cover over the belt wouldn't close and the drill plate was filthy, scorched and scored. No way was this a new product. 'Be detailed and specific. What would you have wanted to know before you purchased the product?' they ask. Well don't sell me something second hand and tell me it's new. Amazon is in danger of becoming the new ebay. Awful experience. Now I have to lug this thing to the post office to get rid of it and my money back. 1 star just for having someone who doesn't speak english on the end of a phone trying to help me return this.
