I've wanted a juicer for a long time, but could never really justify the expense, knowing that I'd very likely quickly tire of the maintenance involved. When I saw this juicer for under $25, it seemed like the perfect opportunity.
When I opened the box, I was immediately impressed with the unit's solid construction. You can see right away that this isn't a plastic piece of junk that's going to break righ away. With the unit's first use, I juiced: cabbage, kale, spinach, carrots, onions and peppers. The unit - while not as powerful as more expensive models, I'm sure - juiced up everything with no hesitation. I would describe the pulp to be damp, but not what I'd call really wet. I dreaded the juicer clean-up process that I'd heard so much about. Disassembly of the unit is a breeze. There are basically three main parts to remove and it takes all of thirty-seconds. No problem. If there's one thing I could change, it would be a better designed pulp-catcher that would allow a bag to be used. This is only a minor gripe and has in no way made me regret the purchase. If you are a casual juicer, looking to get your feet wet without spending a ton of money, this would be a perfect choice. I'm still amazed that I got this for under $25 and I'd recommend it without hesitation.

I got this thing for $25 and it was definitely money well-spent. It juices anything I throw at it and is stylish and easy to clean. Despite being reconditioned, when it showed up I wouldn't have known it wasn't new if the site hadn't said reconditioned.

Waring Juice Extractor,
This review is from: Factory-Reconditioned Waring JEX328FR Health Juice Extractor (Kitchen)
First, this juicer is marked down which is a red flag. I'll tell you why. THe feed chute is incredibly small. You have to cut everytning into narrow pieces so it fits in. THe pulp collector is inside the machine and gets filled very fast. I was juicing about 6 carrots with a few sticks of celery. The pulp catcher was full already. I hate the fact that I need to disassemble the machine and dump the pulp container more often than I should. At $50, it may see like it's a bargain and if you're juicing once a week then it may be but if you're planning on using this every day and juice a lot of vegetables then forget about it. It is a hassle. There are way better juicers to be found for a few bucks more.

I'd been looking for a good juicer for a number of months, but had shied away because they're expensive. I saw this deal, read and analyzed the reviews, and rolled the dice. It arrived yesterday, and after easily disassembling it to wash the parts and get to know it initially, I ran a half dozen carrots through it. OMG!! Fast and delicious carrot juice in my own kitchen! Clean-up was easy (well, I was an old pro by now) and quick--under five minutes.
To address some of the negatives you may read, first, size: of course it's big. They're all big and bulky. It's their nature. Second, residue: my carrot pulp was DRY. I suppose if I'd put it on the floor and stood on it I might have gotten maybe another teaspoon of carrot juice out of it. Third, it's factory reconditioned: for me, that's a plus. Consider this: the manufacturer rolls out tens of thousands of these off the line, each one eye-balled and polished by QC before bagging and boxing, assuming that they are all good to go. But, a factory re-con is gone over from top to bottem, inside and out before it's released. No assumptions--the last thing the manufacturer wants is to see that thing back again, so you know they'll make sure they don't. And if it'd been returned for a little cosmetic blem, I can certainly live with that considering the discount I'm getting. I'm still not sure why they're virtually giving these away, but Waring is an old and trusted brand, and the juicer is not cheaply made. I'll be back in a year (hopefully not sooner) to give some time perspective to this review. As soon as I finish writing this, I'm ordering two more as Christmas gifts. April 2009. Well, here it is nearly 2 1/2 years later: I still use it three to four times a month, and still awesome juice! Not one complaint!

I was searching for a juicer for a long time and was contemplating the Jack LaLanne Juicer which my brother had. I came across this and was a little skeptical, but after making the purchase I am totally satisfied.
I like the stainless steel construction, it is very well made, solid and sturdy. It comes apart very easy, and most of the time you just need to scrape out the left over and rinse with hot water to clean it. I can't believe i have gone so long without juicing, i've never been much of a fruit eater other than apples and bananas, but since buying this product I have made apple and carrot drinks, watermelon and cantaloupe, its great. I actually feel the difference inside within a short time. I read one review that this juicer leaves juice left over in the pulp, but i did not find that to be true. I think it all depends if your trying to force the fruit through to quickly. It you don't press to hard on the chute feeder and let the machine do the work the pulp is quite dry. I got one Litre of cantaloupe juice from one cantaloupe. I went out and purchased some 1 liter bottles and i just fill them up so i can mix and match to my aquired taste. I got 3/4 of a liter from about an 1/6 of a full water melon. Anyway i am thinking of purchasing one for my friend and his wife as a christmas gift. Great Stuff.

A bit noisy. But not as much as some others I've used. Really powerful blade action on this one. I would say that this gets about 97 percent of the juice out of the fruit. I shaved down a 3 pound bag of organic apples and came out with 32 ounces of juice. I could likely have gotten 1 or 2 more ounces if not for the fact that the shavings were slighly moist. Not wet, though. VERY easy to clean up. It took less than 10 minutes total to cut the 3 pounds of apples, juice them, wash the unit and dry the unit and put it back together. The easiest i have ever dealt with. I've used this unit about 20 times and the only thing i noticed with the operation was a mild aroma the first 4 or 5 uses. It would seem that when they reconditioned this one they also oiled the internal components and i could initially smell the oil burning during the juicing process. The smell has since vanished. I am very happy with the price (under 30 dollars) and the look of the juicer as well. It looks and feels like a professional kitchen item. I would recommend anyone i know to buy this. Hope you enjoy as much as i did! Happy New Year!
ADDED INFO : It is now November, 2007. I have used this item for approx. 10 months. It is now fried. The motor began to bog down and slow. Then, it simply stopped running. I used it a lot. Probably more than 50% of average users. However, less than a year is not so good. I did buy it at a great price, and it was a reconditioned model, but i expected a bit more than this out of it. I am still happy with the job it did for me. If you're a light user, i am sure this will last for years. Hope i helped!

This juicer is excellent!! I paid 29.99 for it and its 24.99 now. Please buy this juicer. Its an extremely efficient machine. Juices everything from carrots to beets leaving a delicious pulp-free end product. The pulp itself is not soggy at all which means all the juice gets extracted.
Cleaning is a snap! I use my regular scotch brite pad and a new toothbrush for the strainer and every last bit of pulp comes out! Other than minimal splashing as the juice is being deposited into the cup, I have NO complaints!! A great buy!!!

I've been kicking the idea of buying a juicer around for- well, at least a year- and going back in forth between a relatively inexpensive $100 unit, and a solid $200 geared unit. Then I spotted this, and jumped on it. I mena, this is really cheap, especially for a stainless steel unit, right?
Well, sort of. The good things first: It's easy to use. I ran carrots, beets, celery and other things found from the fridge through it one after another. It chewed them up without complaining and produced plenty of juice. There's nothing to it- just drop the veggies in and push them down. Now the downside: First, it's not stainless steel. It's plastic, with a thin stainless cover. The collection cup is stainless, as is the grater, but the rest is molded plastic. Second, it's not all that efficient. The leftover pulp is pretty wet- and there's a lot of it. After putting through enough carrots to fill the collection cup halfway, I found that the juicer was pretty much full of pulp- which leads to problem number 3: It takes a while to clean. You have to disassemble it, dig out the wet pulp, which sticks to the plastic, and then take a brush to the grater. All in all, it took me longer to clean the juicer than it did to make the juice! In retrospect, a centrifugal juicer without a pulp extractor is simply not a very practical device. And number 4: The grating disk is perhaps half the diameter of the disks found on the better juicers. This means it's going to wear out that much faster, and I strongly suspect that a replacement disk is going to cost close to what this entire until cost. I'm still going to keep it. After all, it was pretty cheap, and it does produce juice. But as the novelty wears off, it's increasingly annoying to use. I'm going to start saving up for a good $120 juicer, and when this one wears out, I'll buy a better unit- and I would suggest that anyone looking for a reliable, practical juicer do the same. FOLLOWUP: After two months, I find that I simply don't use it. The lack of a pulp ejector and the amount of time needed to clean it means it just doesn't get used. Even given the price I'd suggest prospective purchasers save their money for a better unit.

Like I titled it, I'm a complete novice at using a juicer. I didn't know what I was looking for (besides a good price). I read a lot of the reviews on tons of different juicers and decided on this one because it had steady reviews of people liking it, and like everyone else thought, the price can't be beat. Even if I ended up breaking the thing into little pieces or hating it, it was only 27 bucks. Right now I'm enjoying an apple/peach/carrot/blueberry juice. took me less then 5 minutes, and totally better then the dreaded(but delicious) late night snacking.
It does splatter a bit when it first gets started with each piece of fruit/veg you put in the chute, but I don't mind it too much(for the price!). two other cons: it doesn't always completely juice every piece, sometimes I have some pieces the size of a finger that didn't juice. Also, when doing very juicy fruits, it tends to leak to the main body of the juicer which you'll then have to clean as well as the other parts. It's a hefty appliance, and I don't think I'd be too thrilled lugging it out every time I wanted to use it, so make sure you have good counter space for it. Its very easy to clean, except for the strainer part which can be a little tedious and does require the little cleaning brush they provide. I've made juice almost every day since buying it, and I'm really having fun! I've done carrots, cucumbers, melons, pinapple, strawberries, blueberries, peaches, oranges, celery. I'm still learning good combinations, but thats part of the excitement. the melon/cucumber/celery wasn't so hot. I would recommend this product to anyone interested in getting their feet wet in the juicer world. It's easy to use, easy to clean(for the most part) and nice looking as well.

I think that it works great. I have used it a few times and the juicer works great. First time using it made carrot juice and it did a great job. I had no signs of "spraying" that was mentioned in other reviews. Easy clean up, though the strainer was a little tough to get some of the pulp out of, but that was not in the dishwasher. For $29.99 it is a great bargain. No signs of refurbishment and was packaged very well.
Update: I used the dishwaser to clean the filter and it came out with no residue or pulp at all. Still working great! When making carrot juice I do notice that when the cup gets about 3/4 full you could benefit from emptying out the pulp and continuing. |
