First trimmer arrived DOA, called the support number provided (Weed Eater customer service), was hung up on 2 times, was told that I got the 'After hours parts order line' once, and another telling me I'd have to take item to an authorized service center and pay for them to teach me how to start it (I did trouble shooting down to absolutely no spark, fuel was fine). I told them this, and was re-read I would have to pay for instruction and use my time & effort to correct their issue. I objected to this, informed Amazon of the situation, was told they would check & get back to me, within hours another unit was on it's way, no questions asked. Thank you Amazon for being so responsive & a responsible seller. I would drop Weed Eater products though, as it seems they may tarnish your reputation.

The "factory reconditioned" product came with the shaft attached upside down and the plastic cover over the air filter was broken. I could not make an exchange directly with the seller, and Amazon Customer Service did not return my e-mails.

I am completely dissatisfied with this purchase.

this is the first weed trimmer i owned that is auto line feed,it works great,saves a lot of bumping,and wasting excess line that is trimmed when you bump the nose..great for people like me,senior citizens.

Just like the review from the individual on May 11th, my Weedeater arrived with several broken parts. I am sure that the reason for this is that there was no packing material inside the box. The item is not returnable to Amazon, so I called the manufacturer, who sent me to one of their local warranty providers. They would not fix it, because the parts were broken, not defective. I called Amazon back and they are refunding my money. I wouldn't take a chance ordering one of these if you need a working string trimmer.

I just unboxed this trimmer and thought I would try it out. Got fresh gas and oil mix, filled the tank and attempted to start it. Attempted is the key word. First off the housing was cracked (read:broken) right out of the box. There was no packing support at all in the box, so I assume it got bounced around quite a bit in shipping. I thought I would see if I could start it anyway. The recoil rope would not retract all the way in although it was a new rope. After pulling the cord several times, it would hardly retract at all. And during the attempts to start it, the string assembly fell off the business end of the trimmer and bounced across my garage floor. Overall appearance of the trimmer looks like it has had some hard use before the "reconditioning". The string was not even new string. I would say that it will cost more to fix this thing than what I paid for it. I just got off the phone to Amazon customer service. They are refunding my money. Amazon customer service rocks! But if you buy this trimmer, you pays your money and you takes your chances. If I could give this a zero star rating I would.

I have owned one of these for probably going on 7 years now and I love it. The Twist-N-Lock trimmer feature is so handy and my lawn looks soo neat when you trim and edge each time you mow.

Was looking for these in the stores and they're getting scarce. Called Poulan the mfr and they said these trimmers are being phased out, so I started looking around and purchased a replacement for when old faithful expires. Ordered from Amazon, super price, free quick delivery and yes- the things definetly not packaged very well, but it did arrive without anything broken.

Tried to start and I couldn't get it to run. Only would fire when you primed the carb, than would stall out. Called the mfr to complain and they said they're adjusted to the whacked out Calif EPA pollution standards. They suggested getting the carb adjusted at a service center. Found one, and the mechanic tweaked it for a short while and it runs great. He said they're waay to lean.

Try one of these trimmers and find a compentent small engine mechanic and spend a few bucks for a terrific little trimmer. Also, use Star-Tron fuel additive, ethanol in gas is a problem. Gd Luk

This is the first "factory reconditioned" product I have ever bought; and the last one...
It is assembled upside down and cannot be used. I tried to send it back, but it cannot be returned. At least I got my money back.

I've owned this exact model, a TE475Y, for several years and mostly love it--the auto line feed design is way, way better than the bump-type at least in my experience. So when I decided I needed a spare trimmer and found it here on Amazon, I was very pleased indeed, EXCEPT that the reviews here made me nervous about mail-ordering it for sure. But in the end, this product seems no longer available anywhere locally, so I decided to "Prime" order it, and with overnight delivery to hopefully minimize the potential for shipping damage.

So I ordered it Monday and (of course!) received it Tuesday and sure enough the box was caved-in quite a bit, but luckily the two (yes, only two!) pieces of packing tape "securing" either end were intact, so the end flaps were secure and there were no missing parts. But it's true...AMAZINGLY there is no packing material inside the box whatsover! Zero, zip, nada, none! My goodness, they could at least have wrapped the power head in a piece of bubble-wrap!!!???!!! Come-on, Amazon, have your warehouse guys open the box, wrap the engine, and *adequately* re-tape the thing and you will save yourselves and your customers a lot of grief! Oh, well, enough griping--despite this embarrassing packing situation I had no cracks or broken parts or anything; maybe overnight FedEx is the way to go indeed.

Today I fired it-up and trimmed for a couple hours; excellent, this is just a wonderful machine and I'm sorry that Poulan has apparently decided to retire the design. But at least spare parts are still very readily available; it was even sold under the "Sears Craftsman" brand so lots of repair parts are available from many sources including of course our very favorite "store", Amazon.com! Thanks!

This product has a nice feature in that it automatically feeds the line, however, it is not very sturdy and it vibrates terribly. Within one tank of gas, the line spool had started to melt causing the shaft to overheat and melt the cutting shield support. If your alternative is to use a pair of scissors, then this is a better option. If you need to use this tool on a regular basis for any extended period of time, buy something else!

I always, almost, go with the reviews when purchasing an item on Amazon... I'm already aware of their super customer service, so I've been known to take a chance once in a while. This string trimmer was a chance, and did I ever win... Some of the reviews that spoke of the shaft being upside down when it was recieved were correct, however a button on the handle, and a twist took care of that situation. Other reviews said it wouldn't start, which was also true, but a few seconds of adjustment on the carb and mine fired right up. I have had lots of string trimmers, I live on 5 acres in weed country, but this is the strongest best working one I've had to date. I've never had a piece of equipment powered by 2 stroke that wasn't temperamental, but this is certainly much better than most. I've been using it for 3 weeks or so, burning a tank of fuel at a time, and it hasn't missed a beat. After the initial carb adjustment, it starts within a few pulls every time. Highly recommended. The only problem that I have with it, is I have to be extra careful when trimming near small trees, 'cause it'll take them down in a heartbeat... btw, it didn't need a bunch of packaging, it's tough....
