The HP Officejet V40 offers a complete home office solution for creative, business, and communication tasks with print, scan, copy, and fax functions. Print beautiful photos and color graphics with up to 2,400 x 1,200 dpi color on premium photo paper. Plus, when you're in a hurry, HP's enhanced Color Layering Technology from Photoret III gives the same exceptional print quality as 2,400 x 1,200 dpi, but faster.

Scan documents with up to 600 x 1,200 dpi optical resolution in 36-bit color. OCR software saves retyping hard-copy documents for electronic editing. Make up to 99 copies from one original, and reduce or enlarge from 50 percent to 200 percent, with a speed of up to 4 copies per minute in black and 2 copies per minute in color.

Additional features include a 20-page automatic document feeder for hands-free faxing and copying, plain paper and color fax with 14.4 Kbps fax modem, and 60-page fax memory for incoming faxes if machine is out of paper or ink. The V40se supports PCs with USB connectivity.

I had this printer for just over a year and suddenly got a message called a "carriage error". It is not an error that can be fixed. HP knows about the defect in this product and doesn't care. A google search revealed that everyone seems to have the same problem just after their 1 year warranty expires. It was very loud and I never was too happy with the printer before it broke. HP - never again!

I had the same "Carriage Jam" problem just after one year. Unable to fix. A google search found that this is a very common problem with this machine.

I own three of these. One, bought and used at lot in the UK, has been trouble free; two in the States are about 18 months old and little used - and one of them has experienced the "Ink Cartridge Carriage Jam" problem. It was of interest to read of the other reviewer's search turning up many with the same flaw and HP's lack of support - so I certainly won't waste any time and money trying to get it fixed. I wanted to standardize on this product, but am pleased that it is no longer sold and that I had to buy a different one for my fourth printer. I would certainly advise against buying a new or reconditioned V40.
