I rode off the knowledge I garnered from , this book all the way through high school and in Science Bowl competitions, AP-level science classes, and more. It is the most valuable book I have ever bought, hands down. I hope that it is updated one day for my own kids to use!

I've actually collected a class set of these via Amazon as they are a wonderful resource to teach "Earth, Sun and Moon" type stuff. Most of the info is described in just the right amount of detail, giving enough science to satiate curiosity but not overwhelming my 5th graders with jargon or numbers. The "Strange but true" boxes for each section are okay but sort of distract from the more useful details.
