4.0 out of 5 stars Helpful book
I was amazed at how John Ankerberg compiled a list of what well-known and respected Greek scholars had to say after reviewing The New World Translation. Christian and non-Christian scholars alike said it was full of mistranslations. It will break your heart to read how this organization has lied and deceived so many sincere people.

5.0 out of 5 stars O boy, November 30, 1999

This review is from: The Facts on Jehovah's Witnesses (The Anker Series) (Paperback)
People, I can't believe these totally unscholarly reviews. First of all, not everyone has an opportunity to interview a Jehovah's Witness, so not everyone can get the facts from them. Number two, Jehovah's Witnesses are sure to be ignorant (whether willfully or not) of the history of lie-telling the watchtower has. Number three, this book is a fairly good introduction to JW doctrines and beliefs. Good expose of the NWT "Translation." Nice summary of JW history. The defense of the Trinity they offer is weak in some areas, but all in all this is a good book and a good buy. Whoever it was that accused Dr. Ankerberg of being a liar is quite wrong. Dr. Ankerberg is an exemplary Christian who I myself look up to. In fact, he's the guy who got me into apologetics. (Different story.) Anyway, I highly recommend this book as an introduction the Jehovah's Witness doctrine.

4.0 out of 5 stars Just a thought........, August 19, 2001

This review is from: The Facts on Jehovah's Witnesses (The Anker Series) (Paperback)
I just wanted to ask the "Jehovah's Witnesses" who made commments on this website, if the "Elders" (or head church members -for those people who do not know the term) knew that they had read this book. From what I know as a former Jehovah's Witness, a true Jehovah's Witness cannot read books like this one because the group considers this type of book as "apostate material" that is unfit for a true Christian to read. Any Jehovah's Witness that did read the book is actually going against the church and could be severely punished for doing so.

My point is, do not make any judgements on this book without actually reading it first and try to look at it with an 'unbaised' attitude. If a person cannot seperate their strong feelings one way or the other toward the group, I do not believe they are able to give a 'unbiased' opinion on how beneficial or non-beneficial this book really is.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great read, January 16, 2005
I've found this book to be very helpful in my study of the Watchtower organization. A great read for those who are may have encountered a Jehovah's Witness for the first time or are unfaimliar with the religion, as it offers a brief history of the organization, and analyzes many of their doctrines. As you may have noticed, all the negative reveiws of this book offer no real supporting evidence for their claims of the book being "distorted, inaccurate regurgitations of half truths". I DID go to the JW"s for the "facts", and almost became a member of a local congregation. Praise the Lord Jesus for keeping from making the biggest mistake of my life. This book is a welcome addition to any Christian's library.

1.0 out of 5 stars Untruthful and Biased, May 17, 2011
The Book is based on the author's depiction of Jehovah's Witnesses, not the actual truth. In fact, while claiming that their teachings are wrong, the authors insist their own understanding of the Bible is accurate. And the claim that Witnesses believe Jesus was "re-created" by God after dying as a human, is completely untrue. In fact, they believe he was resurrected by God. The author states that the changes in beliefs over time proves that God does not back their work. However, the authors completely ignore Proverbs 4:18: "But the path of the righteous ones is like the bright light that is getting lighter and lighter until the day is firmly established." This describes the spiritual enlightenment of the organization. That can be easily compared to the moral decline in the other world's religions. The author's claim to so-called 'misinterpretations' of the scriptures is also inaccurate. The "New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures", the translation used by the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society, is the most literal and accurate Bible Translation according to many scholars. I am disappointed that the authors chose to represent these matters as fact, when the are not. I think this author needs to rethink calling this book "The Facts on Jehovah's Witnesses" and retitle the book "My Personal Feelings on Jehovah's Witnesses Along with Outright Lies".

4.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected, but accurate and informative, November 3, 2010
This is rather different from the other "Jehovah's Witness" books I've read and the one my cousin and I wrote, but I don't mean that in a bad way. This is more of, like the title says, a book of facts as opposed to a book of experiences by folks who've been involved with the Witnesses. This is clinical, like a textbook, but the information is factual based on what I remember being taught as a young Witness. This is somewhat of an expose, a taking to task, a calling out on the mistakes, turnarounds, and inconsistencies within the organization. If I knew nothing of this organization, I would find this book very informative and rather critical.

5.0 out of 5 stars Reviews do not fit your guidelines, September 16, 1999
This review is from: The Facts on Jehovah's Witnesses (The Anker Series) (Paperback)
The preceding reviews, particularly the first one, seem to consist ENTIRELY of attacks on the author (IE calling him "one of the most prolific liars in the religion business". The author should be given space to react to these attacks.

1.0 out of 5 stars Lies, bias, February 16, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Book not worth the price I paid. Full o bias and lies. It seems that the more letters they can put after their name, the more they think they are educated. What a bunch of has-beens. They should go back to thleir schools of lower learning. They do not know their Bibles at all. they quote scriptres out of context and know not what they are talking about. Gil

To the many Witnesses on this site I want to ask: Does the Watchtower know that you are surfing the web? You are not allowed to read anything but approved Watchtower literature. What are you doing on Amazon looking at "Satanic" books?

This is meant as a criticism of the Witnesses, not the book.
