Another one of her "Brilliant Ideas"!!,
By Yolanda (Monroe, MI United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Facts of Life: And Other Lessons My Father Taught Me (Hardcover)
A huge Facts of Life fan, Blair was always my favorite. I still love to catch reruns of the show instead of watching current programs. I was thrilled to find Lisa's book and read it in a matter of days (a true challenge when you have two toddlers and reading time is scarce). The book tells us of the down to earth Lisa, so unlike the arrogant Blair. Lisa's faith in God is inspirational. Facts of Life fans will enjoy her reminiscing here and there throughout the book. The day I finished this book, I went out and bought Creative Correction, her parenting book. So far it has been another one I can't hardly put down. Lisa is a very gifted writer. I follow her daily journal of her year long trip across the country with her husband Steve and their three children, in a motor home. [....]

I loved this book!!,

I received this book as a Christmas gift and I've already finished it. It is honest, insightful and funny. I enjoyed Lisa Whelchel's writing style - she conveys her own life experiences with growing up, gaining weight, dating, marriage and being a mother. I can relate to many of the same issues she has struggled with and I appreciate her sharing these experiences with us. She offers Bible-based, practical suggestions to help others get through these situations. I especially liked the non-food fasting ones! (Boy could I do some of that myself!)It is so obvious that her heart belongs to Christ and she uses Scripture prove her point. I commend her for everything she's been through as a child-actor and I definitely recommend this book for all stay at home moms (and those who don't too!).

The Fundamental Facts of Lisa's Life,

I wasn't surprised at all to thoroughly enjoy this book as I had also enjoyed Lisa's first venture as an author, "Creative Correction." Lisa's sense of humor and writing style makes it fun and easy to read what she wants to convey to us readers: That Jesus is there for us in every decision we need to make and that He knows better than we do what's best for us...

...One of my greatest peeves is when members of the Christian right try to force their particular brand of Christianity on others. This book does no such thing. It's readable and written with such an inspiring gratitude. Whatever your faith, I'm sure you'll find some strength from reading about Lisa's steadfast faith and how it sustains her through good times and bad...

Lessons we could all benefit from...,

I was amazed that once I started to read this I could not put it down. It is not "in your face" Christianity and as I read it I begin to see parallels in my own life. It was an awakening to see how He speaks to us if we only listen and Lisa does a wonderful job of showing us how to hear Him. She shares her experiences with wit and honesty. I can't wait to read Creative Correction. I'm hopeful it will be as enlightening and as humorous!!

One of the Best Books I've Read!,
This review is from: The Facts of Life and Other Lessons My Father Taught Me (Paperback)
If you want a good read, and it's a Christian book, check out "The Facts of Life and Other Lessons My Father Taught Me", written by Lisa Whelchel. As you may remember in the 1980s, Lisa played "Blair" on the TV Show "The Facts of Life", and is now married to a pastor, with 3 children. I actually grew up watching that show, along with "The Cosby Show". This book Lisa had written is actually an autobiography about her own life, and what God did for her. It consists of her being saved at age 10, when she entered the Mickey Mouse Club, her thoughts and then asked to not be in the episode when Natalie (on "The Facts of Life" show) had premarital sex, when she had her wedding, her kids, and many more. It also tells the reader about the miracles and blessings God has given to Lisa and her family. This is not an "In the Face" Christian book...this is a honest, down-to-earth book written by the actress herself.

Great book,

This book basically told the story of Lisa's life, from her childhood, to acting, and then about her marriage and parenthood. The chapters were well broken down into various aspects of her life, with her telling us what God has taught her at the end of each chapter. I loved the humor in the book, especially the words of wisdom from Lisa's mother.

This was an amazing book to read! I just recieved it this morning and I finished it by late afternoon. I just could not put it down! It was very interesting to read about her life and her relationships, not only with God, but her husband and family as well. Lisa writes well and had a great sense of humor. It really does shine in this book. I look forward to the next book she writes.

At first, I was thinking that this book was a memoir about Lisa Whelchel's time on the hit TV show "Facts of Life." It isn't. Her time on the TV show is only mentioned briefly and doesn't really reveal too much information that fans of the show would like to know. I didn't know she had been a Mouseketeer though, so that is something new I learned. Then I was thinking that it was a book filled with great insights from her very public Christian walk. It's not really a book about that, either. The book really covers a very early portion of Lisa Whelchel's Christian walk. Much of the theology is relatively basic. True, this book was written 10 years ago when we all were a whole lot younger. I'm hoping her later books reveal more maturity and wisdom that comes with time.

AN AMAZING WOMAN EMERGES...,
By
This review is from: The Facts of Life: And Other Lessons My Father Taught Me (Hardcover)
I can remember Lisa Whelchel well from watching the television series, "Facts of Life" with my daughters. Lisa, who played the role of Blair Warner, was the spoiled, pampered, snobby rich kid who made a point of showing the others how great she really was, if only in her own mind. Yet, there was also a very insecure side to her lingering beneath her character's surface. The real Lisa Whelchel is about as far removed from her television role as Antartica is from the Sahara Desert. I was totally amazed to read about Lisa's life as a pastor's wife and the homeschooling of her three children. She is also a gifted singer and songwriter. Lisa's life, for all it's glitz and glamour, has not been without challenges. However, through all of life's experiences, Lisa appears to have found strength in her faith in God and comes across as a mature, inspirational and a woman of great inner peace and beauty. Fans of "Facts of Life" will certainly enjoy this highly recommended book. Now, can anyone tell me what happened to the rest of the cast? |
