Editorial Reviews

Review

Moody has done a first-rate job of identifying the barriers to enhancing faculty diversity. She also offers numerous practical strategies and tactics for academic leaders who care about faculty diversity and hope to make a difference. In addition, Moody backs up these recommendations with key references to the most important literature in the field. Faculty Diversity is one-stop shopping for those who wish to make progress in this important arena. -- Denice Denton, University of Washington
The author, a diversity consultant and former college administrator, writes that institutions of higher education are enrolling more minority students.

5.0 out of 5 stars Practical Advise You Can Actually Use, March 18, 2004
By
Sheila E. Browne (Mount Holyoke College) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Faculty Diversity: Problems and Solutions (Paperback)
The author clearly knows what she is talking about. The true value of the book is its practicality. You can use the advice to create an environment in an academic department that supports the success of both minority faculty and minority students. The advice on recruiting and retention of minority faculty is simply unavailable anywhere else. I have personally purchased this book for my dean and the chairs of science departments at my college. It is very important for those hiring faculty to gain the knowledge that this book provides. It is important to note that the good practises she promotes would make the environment in academia better for everyone.

1.0 out of 5 stars Left wing claptrap, February 23, 2005
This review is from: Faculty Diversity: Problems and Solutions (Paperback)
Are you a victim? According to this book, if you are anything other than a caucasian male, the answer is yes. Multiculturalism run rampant. It would be funny but for the fact that academia and corporations take this drivel as unassailable truth. On the other hand, if you are a university professor, this should be a brilliant read.
