This review is from: Fade to Grey (Paperback)
Det. Insp. Mike Croft is faced with the case of a serial rapist. All the victims are similar in appearance but, when the forensic reports come in, the case becomes somewhat bizarre. Disappearances and a murder being investigated two hundred miles away tie back to Croft's case, as does a woman who seems to be at the nucleus to the case. One of the best things I can say is that it is a rather quick read. However, there was little-to-no character development, and I don't remember there being much more in any of the previous books. There were way too many characters causing me to stop, go back and try to see when someone was introduced and who they were. The style was fragmented which I found distracting to read and lessened the suspense, and I really disliked the ending. It's a shame because I basically like the character of Croft and his friend Joe Tynan, but Adams really makes you work to feel a connection with them. The style and lack of character development were criticisms I had of Ms. Adams previous book as well. I've a few more of her books on my shelf but doubt they will be at the top of my TBR list. |
