In my twenties, I found myself listening to a lot of Vibraphone players. But now in this new century, I had not seen any new players rise to prominence like the last century. I found out about this recording when looking for Charlie Hunter recordings, I don't know if Tim is the next Milt Jackson or Gary Burton, but anyone keeping the vibraphone alive in the 21st century gets 3 stars for just trying. These tracks feature Charlie Hunter in the bass player context(I say this because his instrument covers the range of both bass and guitar). Some of the pieces have an almost classical feel as string players are incorporated into the fabric of the album. I like this because he does not crowd the sound of his vibes with too many instruments. He has another release which is brass heavy. This puts his vibes into an almost supporting role. This CD accents his playing front and center. Cheers for a new voice on vibes.
