Salas and Klotz detail the sobering facts of UFO interference with US nuclear weapons,
By
This review is from: Faded Giant (Paperback)
Robert Salas is a graduate of the USAF Academy and holds a Masters Degree in Aerospace Engineering. In March 1967 he was working night shift as DMCCC (Missile Launch Officer in charge) at Malmstrom AFB in Montana with responsibility for a battery of nuclear-armed Minuteman Missiles. Deep underground in the "capsule", he received repeated alarm reports from base guard personnel at ground level of a large, red-glowing disk-shaped craft hovering over the base. A disturbing series of events then began to unfold. The UFO hovered over each silo and, one at a time, the triple-redundant systems controlling each missile were systematically shut down until the entire battery was off-line. The UFO then departed, and it took technical crews most of the following day to get the missiles back online which had to be done, manually, one at a time since the systems had been damaged by the UFO's action. This blatantly intentional action of shutting down nuclear missiles by the intelligences guiding UFOs is far from unique to the Malmstron case - for a comprehensive and absolutely first-class overview of the long history of such cases, read Robert Hastings' book "UFOs and Nukes." In the Malmstron case, as in others, the USAF ensured the witnesses were effectively silenced and there was a news media blackout. Only in 2005, now retired, did Salas finally speak out in public and write this excellent, if short, book with James Klotz. In "Faded Giant" Salas and Klotz tell the full story of the 1967 Malmstrom Incident, and put the event in context with accounts of similar UFO/military interactions, some involving nuclear missiles (the "Big Sur" incident for example). Chapter four is an intelligent discourse on the pros and cons of government "Disclosure" of the ET issue, presenting arguments for both sides: to disclose, or to keep secret. The issue of "National Security" as justification for continued secrecy is examined impartially and in thoughtful detail. Almost two thirds of "Faded Giant" consists of detailed appendices covering the design and layout of missile bases and the control capsule, diagrams and photographs, and many pages of declassified documents in support of the main narrative. Robert Salas is, perhaps partly as a result of having witnessed at first hand the serious interest ETs take in our nuclear missiles, in favour of complete nuclear disarmament. I was honoured to meet with Robert and his wife in 2008 and found him to be a highly intelligent deep-thinker, a man of obvious integrity and principle with a disarming warmth and humility. He is great company, and after a long successful career in the aerospace industry has studied the whole UFO subject in some depth and is now widely read on the general subject. Salas has appeared many times on TV discussions about the UFO/nukes relationship and has been a guest on CNN's Larry King show. Together with Robert Hastings, he is planning a press conference at the National Press Club in Washington DC in September 2010 to bring the issue to more widespread public attention. This book is short but definitely worth reading. Its factual and non-speculative tone makes the explosive content difficult to deal with by the debunker so, as usual, they will probably ignore or evade it. Four star rating, missing out on five stars due only to the book's unusual brevity and definitely not its content, which is first class.

Faded giant carefully details several of the most important UFO cases in modern history; in many ways, more important and more well-documented than the Roswell case.
It's unfortunate that the so-called news gathering departments of the major media outlets don't care about the US loosing 20 ICBMs to what appears to be several alien craft violating the most strategic airspace in the world. If you are seriously interested in subject matter dealing with UFOs, national security, or simply the profound truth behind the absurd political legerdemain of misdirection, this book is a must read.

Great starter book if you're interested in this aspect of UFO studies - and you should be given the obvious gravity of the matter. Book is best read as a supplement to, and in conjunction with other literature on the subject matter, and related to it. Faded Giant is short but unsettling. It's part of a study, ongoing- and admittedly unfinished - the final page requests that anyone with information step forward. When contemplating what Salas and Klotz are saying, add the literature authored by Friedman, Carey, Schmitt, Dr. Greer, and of course Robert Hastings, one is left with a huge question. What's the scarier scenario? The witnesses, who actually used, and who were charged with storing, guarding, and firing nuclear weapons are all pathological liars, were hallucinating on duty, or the witnesses are telling the truth and something else is interested in, and can possibly control our most critical weapon systems? Pretty sobering stuff.
Or maybe all of this literature is nothing but utter lies and/or nonsense made up out of whole cloth by clever individuals hell-bent on making money by making fools of all of us. It really comes down to the above choices.

We have Minuteman missiles ready to lauch a full out nuclear attack on any incoming
missiles. These missile silos are spread over the western states. In Montana, these missiles went into shutdown, non functioning mode on their own, much to the amazement of the missile operators and the top military brass. And there in the sky, and outside the front gate of the military base, were hovering orange balls. When the orange balls sped away, the missiles mysteriously returned to ready to lauch mode. No reason for this inoperable state was ever found. And perhaps even more disturbing, no official explanation or even any written account from the military of this situation was ever done!!! The military just pretended it never happened! We are talking about our national defense. And apparently, there is no national defense in the form of functioning missiles. This author is a respected journalist, who interviewed all involved. Most are now retired and talking openly to her about it. There was within the past month a National Press Club conference where the retired military officers who were in charge at the time discussed details and answered questions about this subject. Excellent piece of investigative journalism here about a subject that many are scared to talk about.

Although, my focus of interest has shifted from sightings and incidents to the agenda behind the curtains, I still find this book excellent presentation of not only Malmstrom incident but also of many other similar incidents and the ridiculous explain-aways of the official clan. Good work.

Faded Giant... Another UFO cover-up by the US Government,
By
This review is from: Faded Giant (Paperback)
Faded Giant describes incidents between UFO's and our missile defense system that were not well reported to the public at the time they occured, and are virtually buried in denial and cover-up by the US Air Force. This book is a well documentd and written account of incidents that could certainly make any missile launch system inoperable. Another insight into the apparent capabilities of UFO's, that far exceed our own. Good Book.

I purchased this book because I'm trying to understand an incident my mother and I had near an underground missle site in NE Kansas about 1960. We met some kind of a craft crossing what is known as the Denison Road north of Topeka. It was right at a missle silo and I'm sure that was why the craft was there. I never allowed myself to think about the incident for many years but for some reason it kept popping into my thoughts the last couple of years. I read a few book about UFOs but nothing seemed to match what happened to us until I did a search for UFO missle silo and found that this book and some others were available and told about others who had similar experiences. I still have no memory of the complete encounter but now have a clearer memory of the end of the event. It is a comfort to know that in fact the event probably had nothing to do with my mother and I other than we happened to be in the area when the UFO was. Once the huge craft passed completely over the road we could see another vehicle with a man first standing beside a pick up truck and then speaking to my mother and I as we pulled up beside his truck. He and my mother exchanged a very few words and they both drove away. Everything about the incident is very low key and doesn't match at all the excitement and even fear that it should have caused. The next morning at breakfast I remember saying to my mom that we saw a flying saucer last night and she agreed and unbelievably, we never spoke of it again. I was about 15 at the time and only in my 60s has the memory began to bother me. I do feel so much more at ease since reading this book and realizing the "thing" wasn't so much after us as it was there because of the missle. I think it may be a blessing that I remember so little about the incident after reading how powerful the event may actually have been. If you have had such an experience I strongly recommend reading this book if only to understand that you are not alone.

Not a word of truth in this whole story,
This review is from: Faded Giant (Paperback)
There's very little in this book that's actually true. The alleged UFO events at Echo Flight and Oscar Flight in March 1967 are incorrect assumptions; they simply did not occur as Salas and Klotz have discussed. There were no UFOs involved at Echo Flight at all, and the incident at Oscar Flight never even happened. The men who have spread these lies have done so for their own benefit, and they have been proven wrong on numerous occasions in numerous ways. I would recommend that if you are truly interested in knowing what actually occured at Malmstrom AFB in March 1967 you go to the following URLs, where you can download at no cost the book and supporting articles discussing the case:
[...] [...] [...] I would also recommend that you examine the numerous interviews and articles at the Reality Uncovered website: http://www.realityuncovered.net/ -- seven of the top eight articles all discuss the events at Echo Flight in March 1967, and include interviews with both the commander and the deputy commander at Echo Flight on March 16, 1967 when the missiles were taken offline by an electronic noise pulse. A lot information regarding this incident can also be found at the Reality Uncovered forum, in particular the Echo Flight Incident thread: http://www.realityuncovered.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=1688&sid=fb3fd24f098c0f3bc35595ea1b41a146. Tim Hebert, an ex-USAF missileer himself, has also written some enlightening articles regarding the case on his blog at: [...] Dr. David Clarke, for many years an accepted expert regarding the British military forces' investigations of the UFO phenomenon for many years, has also discussed this case in the context of the "UFO and NUkes" connection asserted by author Robert Hastings. You can read his article on the subject at [...]. The lies currently being spread by Robert Hastings, author of "UFOs and Nukes", and Robert Salas, author of "Faded Giant", have not merely been dismissed as a valid interpretation of the events, they have been repeatedly proven as lies by witness testimony and documented evidence. There is no doubt whatsoever that they created this case for their own benefit. There were no UFOs involved -- it is a lie, and nothing more. If you want further information, I would be happy to provide it. My father was commander of Echo Flight on the date in question, and I know a great deal about the subject. If you would prefer to speak with my father directly, I'm sure that can also be arranged. As for other possible UFO cases, I doubt that alien spacecraft were involved, but other than that, I really have no opinion. Frankly, I don't know very much about other cases, and would never, for that reason, venture to put forth my own opinions as more viable than another's.
