Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Urban Celtic fantasy slides down a dark, depressing slope in bestseller Moning's third Fever thriller (after Bloodfever), centered on a hunt for the Sinsar Dubh, a black magic book more than a million years old. As All Hallow's Eve in Dublin approaches, the walls between the human world and Faery verge on collapse. Can former Georgia peach MacKayla Mac Lane prevent a total invasion of the Unseelie Court? Originally intent on avenging her sister Alina's murder committed by Unseelie Lord Master, Mac's now a power-player in the war between the Seelie (good Fae) and Unseelie (bad Fae), after learning she's a Celtic sidhe-seeker who can sniff out OOPS (Objects of Power). Meanwhile, the attractive V'Lane, a death-by-sex Fae, wants Mac's help in securing the Sinsar Dubh for his Seelie queen, Aoibheal. At the end, erotic shocks await Mac in Dublin's vast Dark Zone, setting up feverish—if wary—expectations for the next installment. (Sept.)

From School Library Journal

The third installment in Moning's popular Fever series (Darkfever; Bloodfever) finds sidhe-seer MacKayla Lane continuing to adjust to her powers and her new life in Dublin. Though she now knows who killed her sister Alina, she's no closer to the vengeance she craves, and the information she collects about the fae and their relics leads to further questions. Unsure of whom she can trust, Mac further develops her sidhe-seeing skills, taking some unexpected detours into darker territory along the way. Secondary characters from the earlier novels, including sidhe-seer Rowena and "death-by-sex" fae V'Lane, are prominently featured, and there's plenty of action and sexual tension keeping the battle between good and evil moving forward. An abrupt cliff-hanger ending and a number of unresolved plot points ensure that the series will continue. This series is a good bet for readers of Nora Roberts's paranormal-tinged titles, who will appreciate Mac's tough yet tender character. Recommended for all public libraries. 4.0 out of 5 stars Intrigued but impatient, September 27, 2008
By L. Welch "Nicksmom" (Enterprise, AL) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I can agree with both sides of the reviews that have been coming up over the last eleven days. Like most of you, I managed to finish the 315 pages in little to no time at all. I took the warnings about reading at a slower pace to heart, but the pace of the book was such that it was hard to find a stopping point where you would be able to walk away for a few hours or days. I am not looking forward to another long wait for the next book in the series, and I am also irritated with the way things have been left. However, this is the third book of five. You can't expect great things to magically happen all at once with no serious consequence. I'm not agreeing with the ending written, but Mac herself recognizes that tithes are sometimes paid in blood. I would highly recommend that anyone contemplating this series read "Into the Dreaming" first. The references to ITD are increasingly obvious in FF. If you are an impatient reader, take the advice of most and wait for the series to be complete. It is well worth the read, and Moning is still one of my favorite authors to date.

4.0 out of 5 stars Impatient!, September 26, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I thought the first couple of chapters were a little slow, but the rest of the book made up for it. Honestly, the only thing upsetting about this series is the endings to each of the Fever Series. It always ends when you're just starting to get somewhere. It's a little frustrating to have to wait for each new series. That's a year per book which means I won't be able to see the end of Mac's story for another two years!! While I know this keeps readers at the edge of their seats, it's a lot to ask of a reader to get excited about a story and then wait for the next installment. Maybe if there was only one more book to Mac's story then I wouldn't complain so much, but Moning has two more in the Fever Series. It's not like Harry Potter where each book had a complete ending. Moning's Fever Series stops incompletely because the story isn't finished. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

4.0 out of 5 stars It's Getting GOOD!, September 25, 2008
By Stephanie (Forest Hills, NY USA) - See all my reviews

This series keeps getting better! Book 3: Faefever really starts bringing the events of the previous two installments together. We learn more about the "Beast", the Sidhe-Seer group, Alina's last days on earth, and the dreaded Lord Master. Unfortunately, Barrons' true identity is still kept a mystery. Some questions are answered, but of course by the time the last page is turned, the reader has more to ask. And what a cliffhanger! It's very cruel of KMM to leave us to wonder about poor Mac for the next year until Bok 4 is released. Ths is an awesome series, and I do hope the MacKeltar clan will be featured more in the future.
