4.0 out of 5 stars Intrigued but impatient
I can agree with both sides of the reviews that have been coming up over the last eleven days. Like most of you, I managed to finish the 315 pages in little to no time at all. I took the warnings about reading at a slower pace to heart, but the pace of the book was such that it was hard to find a stopping point where you would be able to walk away for a few hours or days...

3.0 out of 5 stars Hood winked
It would seem that she submitted the entire series to her publishers up front & they decided to divide the book into 5 parts to make some money. Well the first 2 were great, I love Mac & Barrons, but this book was a joke. Yes, you find a lot of info out which seems to be why this book was done, it was an encyclopedia of info, but no action or intrigue. As for what happens...

I took the warnings about reading at a slower pace to heart, but the pace of the book was such that it was hard to find a stopping point where you would be able to walk away for a few hours or days. I am not looking forward to another long wait for the next book in the series, and I am also irritated with the way things have been left. However, this is the third book of five. You can't expect great things to magically happen all at once with no serious consequence. I'm not agreeing with the ending written, but Mac herself recognizes that tithes are sometimes paid in blood. I would highly recommend that anyone contemplating this series read "Into the Dreaming" first. The references to ITD are increasingly obvious in FF. If you are an impatient reader, take the advice of most and wait for the series to be complete. It is well worth the read, and Moning is still one of my favorite authors to date.

5.0 out of 5 stars Here's the problem; the reason for such extreme reviews., September 27, 2008
Most of Moning's books are connected, but each book was a self-contained story with a happy ending in the spirit of romance. When she went into fiction rather than the romance genre things got violent and ugly...the sex got rough, something you can't do in a regular historical romance.

The Fever series is one story split into 5 books and Moning doesn't leave us in a happy place at the end of each book the way a romance does. Things get really ugly in FaeFever, but I have no doubt that in the end Moning will give me what I want... sex with Jericho Barrens.

Moning hasn't written a male love interest this ruthless, hard-hearted, nasty or indifferent before. I suspect Barrens wrote the diary pages Mac is reading, if so he has some terrible demons of his own that likely are exactly the kind of demons Mac is now going to have. The horrific ending to FaeFever is exactly what Barrens needs to snap him into shape and admit his love for Mac.

This story telling is different than Monings other books because you only get Mac's side of the story and therefore no reassurance about Jericho's intentions or feelings. It's an excellent series, but if I have to wait a year for book 4 I'll scream! Karen...I'm sure you look at these reviews...PLEASE don't make us suffer! :-)

4.0 out of 5 stars Impatient!, September 26, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I thought the first couple of chapters were a little slow, but the rest of the book made up for it. Honestly, the only thing upsetting about this series is the endings to each of the Fever Series. It always ends when you're just starting to get somewhere. It's a little frustrating to have to wait for each new series. That's a year per book which means I won't be able to see the end of Mac's story for another two years!! While I know this keeps readers at the edge of their seats, it's a lot to ask of a reader to get excited about a story and then wait for the next installment. Maybe if there was only one more book to Mac's story then I wouldn't complain so much, but Moning has two more in the Fever Series. It's not like Harry Potter where each book had a complete ending. Moning's Fever Series stops incompletely because the story isn't finished. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

5.0 out of 5 stars the darkest hour, September 16, 2008
Take a deep breath....okay, I admit, I read some of the spoilers before I read the book. I couldn't help it! And for me anyways, it helped prepare me for what was to come.

This is the darkest book so far but conversely, it was also one of the funniest and had the most moments that reminded me of KMM's highlander series. Maybe it was because Christian explains who his uncles are. It was bittersweet to have so many of her previous heroes mentioned...yet know that they wouldn't be saving our heroine this time. Mac's story doesn't yet have a happy ending and I want one for her so badly. I think I understand Mac when she talks about spatial distortion--I feel it when I'm reading about such dark things happening in the same world that Dagaeus, Drustan, Adam and Cian had once occupied and I believed had saved.

There are funny moments with Vlane and Barrons. I laughed out loud at a scene with Barrons. All I can say is that the scene was so vivid I could picture it. There was sexual tension, hope, lust, love, fear and everything that Mac goes through we feel.

Vlane and Barrons both show more of themselves in this one. Vlane is more forthcoming with information, explaining about the Unseelie and Seelie. KMM explains a lot in this book, things that were never revealed before. Mac is a much stronger person now, her spirit is still strong but it's tempered by what she's been through. Will go through.

If I could, I wish I could fast forward time and it would be next year and I would be reading the next book right now. Great book. Nail biting cliff hanger. My suggestion is to read it slow, savor the funny moments, the sexy moments and the revelations because we've got another year to wait to find out what happens to Mac.

As for what happens to Mac in the end ---your just left hanging like an idiot. It was a short & fast read & now they will make you wait another long year before the next one comes. Don't waist your time, wait until the entire series is out before reading anymore. I have decided not to read anymore until she ends the series.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very disappointed, October 29, 2008
I was very disappointed with this book.

I enjoyed the first two books. I even gave them to my "fantasy book" loving son to read. Now I just have to explain to my 14 year old why I don't want him to read this one. I'm not ready for his questions. He'll ask about violence towards woman and I'll say, "Yea, son, all women who are gang raped have multiple orgasims during the ordeal".

Now I guess we get to watch Mac turn bad in Book 4 and good again in Book 5. How many years will that all take?

Besides George Lucas did that with Darth Vader already...

5.0 out of 5 stars Solid, entertaining, fierce read., September 17, 2008
Middle of the series books are hard, they're right in the centre of everything and have to keep you interested enough to want to finish the series (i.e. leave enough unanswered questions out there so that you THINK about what you've read, enough that you want more). This is a really solid book. You get a lot more insight into some of the main characters (I'm thinking V'lane specifically and Jericho, who's a lot more damaged than I first imagined) and you really get the whole sense of how important and difficult the coming adventures will be for Mac.

I'm not going to lie, I skipped to the end to see what happens. I'm not the kind of person who is bothered by that, and what does happen wasn't really a shock because it happened, moreso for whom it happened with. I'm reserving my opinions over that situation until after I get more information as Karen promises everything will make sense with time, heck, she even reiterates that fact at the end of Faefever, so all you naysayers out there, give the lady some respect and some time, she'll blow us away (even more than she normally does).

The one thing I do, truly wish, however, was that the book was LONGER! But it really does leave me begging for more. Middle of the road people.

If you're a fan of this series it is definitely worth it, not all of it is easy to read (subject matter wise, not style, stylistically Karen is spot on), but not everything in life is pretty and rosy, like Mac says, it's bad experiences that make the good so much more important, and she's due for some uber-good experiences.

If you're impatient I'd read it slowly, because the time between the end of Faefever and the beginning of Dreamfever is going to seem like a lifetime away.

I know you'll keep it up Karen, good luck and thank you!

4.0 out of 5 stars It's Getting GOOD!, September 25, 2008

This series keeps getting better! Book 3: Faefever really starts bringing the events of the previous two installments together. We learn more about the "Beast", the Sidhe-Seer group, Alina's last days on earth, and the dreaded Lord Master. Unfortunately, Barrons' true identity is still kept a mystery. Some questions are answered, but of course by the time the last page is turned, the reader has more to ask. And what a cliffhanger! It's very cruel of KMM to leave us to wonder about poor Mac for the next year until Bok 4 is released. Ths is an awesome series, and I do hope the MacKeltar clan will be featured more in the future.

1.0 out of 5 stars Fae Fiasco, October 23, 2008

Having been a KMM fan for years, I cannot believe the direction she has taken with this series. This latest installment was the worst of the three and having read the first two, I loaned this one from the library just in case it was as disappointing as the others. I'm so glad I didn't waste my money on this one!

From the beginning of this series it has seemed like a Buffy the Vampire Slayer ripoff only Mac doesn't get any more skills - she just eats unseelie flesh to get strength. There really is no plot, just a very long series of incidents that supposedly all have meaning. Another very troubling aspect is the McKelter references - is there really a need for them in this book or is she just stumping for readership of her earlier (and much better!) books?

KMM then ends this travesty with a very disturbing and overlong gang bang against the heroine. I'm not sure but maybe she was just trying to get a sex scene in the book and this is all she could come up with?

Needless to say, I won't be wasting my time with the rest of this series -even as a loan from the library. My time is worth much more and would be better spent elsewhere.

1.0 out of 5 stars So NOT worth the wait !, October 4, 2008

This book was so not worth the wait for it to be released. I loved the first two books. But this one was so boring, and so full of nothing I had to make myself finish it. I really hope KMM has a short wait in store for us for the release of the next book in this series. Otherwise I think I'll wait til the last book in the series is published before buying anymore.
