4.0 out of 5 stars Great except for one word
This is truly a great version of this timless tale and Robin Williams is, as usual extremely funny. 5.0 out of 5 stars Faerie Tale Theatre on DVD!, September 16, 2004

After years of waiting, Faerie Tale Theatre fans can finally own the series on DVD. Shelley Duvall's series originally appeared on Showtime 20 years ago and featured well-known and rising stars of the time. The series' campy enthusiasm for fairy tales has made it a cult classic. Better yet, the DVD prices are affordable, especially after the high prices the used VHS copies have been earning in recent years.

About this episode:

A princess makes a bargain with a talking frog and fails to hold up her end of the deal. Watch a young Robin Williams play the Frog Prince as you've never seen the character before or since.

Cast:
Rene Auberjonois ... King Ulrich
Robin Williams ... The Frog Prince
Teri Garr ... The Princess
Eric Idle ... Narrator

This one funny show based upon a children's book
robin williams is funny as frog & teri garr is excellent as the spoiled princess. i watch this when i was kid & was glad to see it released on dvd, but i was little disapointed in the sound not being very good , i mean it's better than i expect to be for the price paid same with picture could've been better. i'm willing to overlook those things right now & get the series.
in the future i'd like a better transfer in picture & sound & to have behind the scenes, deleted scenes maybe fox will come to their senses and release an excellent edition of this classic series.
but for now i'm glad i can get a clear decent copy of this series so on that note i'd recommend you buy the entire series

a thanks to starmaker for releasing this wonderful series
you have outdone yourselves.

oh to parents the frog prince is PG in my mind because of two cuss words.

happy buying

5.0 out of 5 stars Undoubtably one of the best Faerie Tale Theatre videos., July 30, 2001

This episode of The Tale of the Frog Prince, starring the hilarious Robin Williams and wonderful Teri Garr, is not only a very well told classic children's tale, but a comedy. It has plenty of bits an adult would find entertaining, none being underhand or crude, while still amusing to a younger audience. I grew up watching this series; I loved it then, and I still love it now ... A very good movie to see, and a deal if you can buy it anywhere!

THE TALE OF THE FROG PRINCE is among the best episodes of the entire FAERIE TALE THEATRE series. With a sharply comedic script by Eric Idle and capable leads in Robin Williams and Teri Garr, it is a wild and wacky adaptation of the classic fairytale.

A spoilt bratty Princess (Teri Garr) loses her beloved golden ball down a very deep well. Her only option of retrieving it is to accept the friendship of a 'repulsive' frog (Robin Williams). In exchange for a meal at the palace and a nights' sleep on her silken pillow, the frog retrieves the precious ball, but will the Princess uphold her part of the bargain?...

Williams and Garr are excellent in the leads with fine support from Rene Auberjonois, Michael Richards, Candy Clark, Roberta Maxwell and Nancy Lenehan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome, extremely intelligent, very funny and the first one in the landmark series, January 15, 2010
This review is from: Faerie Tale Theatre - The Tale Of The Frog Prince (DVD)
Faerie Tale Theatre's "The Tale Of The Frog Prince" set a very high mission statement for what would become an important piece of popular culture for a generation of children. Featuring Robin Williams, Teri Garr and memorable narration by Eric Idle, it remains one of the most handsomely done entries in the series.

A sharp script peppered with sophisticated jokes and banter distinguish the flavor of the piece. In particular, Mr. Williams receives an early chance to showcase his wit and rapid-fire comic stylings. Additionally, Teri Garr gives an extremely solid performance as the princess, even displaying a flawless British accent!!

Also featuring astonishing performances by Roberta Maxwell and Rene Auberjonois, "The Tale Of The Frog Prince" is an enduring cornerstone of a truly timeless series.

To me, Robin Williams always made this episode enjoyable to watch because he is so funny. Teri Garr plays the spoiled princess very well. I'm glad that I now have the DVD version of this in my collection. I now have every episode of Faerie Tale Theatre on DVD that I had on videotape and I am so glad that I do because it gives me a chance to watch my favorite episodes again and again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bad for Children, November 3, 2002
By A Customer
This film contains language and sexual content. Robin Williams uses profanity and parental discretion is advised. It is a funny telling of the story for adults but not younger viewers. The horny toad is more like is name than you think. Parents should watch the movie first to decide if it is appropiate for their children, and trust me, it isn't!!!!
