GOLDILOCKS AND THE THREE BEARS is one of the best of the entire FAERIE TALE THEATRE series. Bright, breezy and with a flawless cast and script, it makes for irresistible viewing.
Tatum O'Neal is perfection in the title role. The story recounts the adventures of a ringletted brat called Goldilocks as she happens upon the 'deserted' house belonging to 3 bears. After helping herself to their porridge and breaking Cubby Bear's chair, she goes to sleep in his bed. When the bears return, she gets scared away...but not for long!... After concocting the biggest lie she has ever told, Goldilocks decides to take further advantage of the Bears' hospitality! Tatum O'Neal is joined by a strong cast including Donovan Scott, Carole King, Hoyt Axton, Alex Karras and John Lithgow.

TWO THUMBS UP FOR GOLDILOCKS AND THE THREE BEARS!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Faerie Tale Theatre - Goldilocks and the Three Bears [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This is just what I expected a Faerie Tale Theatre production to be like. From mischievous young Goldilocks (Tatum O'Neal), to the friendly forest ranger (Hoyt Axton), to the three playful bears (Alex Karras, Brandis Kemp, and Donovan Scott), the movie is wonderful. This is a charming and humorous retelling of the story of "Goldilocks and the Three Bears." It teaches a lot about friendship and caring. It shows how quickly an enemy can become a friend. I also like the fact that they add new parts to the story, such as certain scenes that involve the parents of Goldilocks (Carole King and John Lithgow), and more experiences with the bears. It makes the movie more interesting, and not just the same old story once again. All of the acting is very well done. Tatum O'Neal is exactly the kind of person you would expect Goldilocks to be: she's kind, curious, spunky, and of course, she has curly golden hair. In fact, the whole movie is very well done! I would definitely recommend getting this video for you and your family to enjoy over and over again!

Same Classic Story...With Live-Action Humorous Twist!,

There's nary a child alive who doesn't know the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. This Faerie Tale Theatre version, however, tells the story in live-action with a humorous twist.
Children will love this 48-minute escapade because, simply put, it is so unique and geared towards them. It is guaranteed to be different from any other Goldilocks story they have ever heard. Plus, the acting is so simple and true-to-children from that they will be laughing along or immersed in the drama when necessary. Adults (watching with the kiddies) can also appreciate this show because of the simple "fun factor". The acting (usually provided by major acting talents of the day) is so over-the-top that it is hard not to watch it without a smile. Overall, this is one of the best installments of the Faerie Tale Theatre. Be prepared to see it on your home TV screen again and again!

Not one of my favorites,

Faerie Tale Theatre's variation of "Goldilocks and the Three Bears" never captured my admiration as completely as many of the other titles in the series. For starters, the original tale is so sparse that Shelley Duvall and her creative staff really beef it up, with decidedly mixed results.
In this version, Tatum O'Neal's Goldilocks has parents, played with clever wit by Carole King and John Lithgow. King and Lithgow are fine performers, but their characters are simultaneously rote caricatures and the most interesting contributions to the story. I almost feel bad for the bears, played by Alex Karras, Brandis Kemp, and Donovan Scott, because their storyline is so contrived and uninteresting. Acting as a wraparound narrator and an active character in the story, the late Hoyt Axton uses his gruff but kind persona as a concerned lawman looking out(and on the lookout), for the troublesome but good-hearted Goldilocks. Ultimately, this is an uninspired contribution to the series, largely redeemed by nice casting in what just barely escapes being cameo appearances by John Lithgow and Carole King. Still, the meat of this adaptation is a boring mess.

This was one of my favorites, when I was growing up. It's funny, entertaining and one of my favorite fairy tales of all time. If you like the story books, you'll love the movie just as much or maybe even more. I love and own most of The Faerie Tale Theatere movies and this one I've been searching for quite some time. I found it and bought it on Amazon.com

This was the first time I had ever seen Goldilocks and the Three Bears, and I loved every minute of it! I loved Tatum O'Neal-she was perfectly cast in the role of Goldilocks. The rest of the cast was equally strong as well.
