This charming installment of the FAERIE TALE THEATRE series is one of my all-time favourites, based on Hans Christian Andersen's beloved fairytale.Melissa Gilbert and Lance Kerwin play Gerda and Kay, who enter the frozen land of the Snow Queen (played beguilingly by the late Lee Remick) to learn some much-needed lessons about love and friendship. Along the way, Gerda meets the Lady Of Summer (Lauren Hutton) and the Robber Girl (Linda Manz) who both try to come between Gerda and her search to find Kay. Narrated wonderfully by Shelley Duvall (who also created and produced the series, even starring in a few of the tales), with brilliant costumes and sets create a bewitching tale of love and friendship.

Faerie Tale Theatre's adaptation of "The Snow Queen" is one of the series' darker episodes, yet still gives a multifaceted message on the saving power of love.Starring Melissa Gilbert, Lance Kerwin, and Lee Remick in the title role, it also features a production design on a relatively grand scale given the typical standards of the series. The story, adapted from the work of Hans Christian Andersen, concerns two friends named Kay (Ki, with a pronounced "I") and Gerda, played exceptionally well by Kerwin and Gilbert. The script does a wonderful job addressing the uncertainties of life within a fairytale framework and context, utilizing an ugly goblin to turn Kay against Gerda with the broken pieces of a mirror. Thus enters the Snow Queen and begins Gerda's race to save Kay in an unusual story of danger and love. Also starring Lauren Hutton and narrated by Shelley Duvall, Faerie Tale Theatre's "The Snow Queen" is still the definitive rendering of the classic story.
